The Space

Location:: Delicias the cliff of Montezuma is a high point on the Southern Peninsula of Nicoya. This is where you could find us awaking by the sunrise 300 feet above. We are located 5 min. drive from the waterfalls. Montezuma can be reach by a fly charter to Tambor (30 min), by car, by Minibus or Local direct bus. Montezuma offers taxi services and Quad rentals.

We are about 15 to 30 min, to reach almost every top tourist destinations in our area such as: Mal pais, Santa Teresa, Cabuya, Cabo Blanco National Park, Tango Mar, Curu and Tambor. Montezuma is well known for its natural treasures, with its bohemian touch and alternative activities: Yoga, Body-mind healers, dance, health food offers, massage, meditation, spiritual retreats, film festival and art gatherings among others.

Mariposa Cabin: *The Mariposa Cabin was our first little house on the property. The details on it, tells about our way of

embracing life, our view of creation. The cabin has a little terrace on the tip of the cliff welcoming the horizon and miles and miles of coastline. The sunrise awakes on the bed. Pelicans, frigate birds, falcons and other bird species indulge the sky day by day. Cheers !

*The materials used on the construction of both cabins are from native antique wood: floors, doors and windows that we have rescued over the years, in order to avoid cutting more trees and for recycling purposes. Some of those pieces are from 1920.

Colibri Cabin: The Colibri cabin was our second project and we thought about a tree-house like. The cabin has a little loft for a double bed (email hidden) on the cliff surrounded by tree’s, making you feel like an eagle above the ocean.

There is no obstacle in between you and the endless horizon. Further the ocean is only 600 feet (200m)away from you ,so you can sleep being lulled by the waves. Enjoy it !
For the guests without a car we offer to bring them down to Montezuma and the beaches and up when needed they can use a cab.

The Neighborhood

It´s quiet, save and nature oriented area. Also called Montezuma hills. We are on the same cliff as villa paraiso, Montezuma hills and others. It has one of the best ocean views in the country and still has not over grown. Each property on this residencial area has at least one and a half acres, what makes it really private.

  • "Wow" This is usually the first word that leaves my mouth when asked to describe the time my wife and I spent in Montezuma, Costa Rica. A big part of that wow is directed at how perfectly Peter, Rocio and Natalie's wonderful cabin fit in to the grand scheme of things. It was like being at home away from home, in terms of how quickly we felt at ease and welcomed. Just to set the scene: There is a main house, which belongs to the family. And separate from the house is the Geco Cabin in which we stayed, to the side and slightly lower down. The other cabins I'd assume, are also to the side, but I didn't want to ask to see, since there were other guests and I respect the space of others when on vacation. This neat, rustic cabin is not particularly large, but when you want to get away from the big city (NYC), forget all of the unnatural ways in which one spends his or her time when not working, this place really hits the spot in a big way. It has everything one could possibly need, so long as you're not expecting to flip through channels of nonsense on a television, or play video games. There is a natural, salt water pool which is amazing! If you get up super early, to take in the morning sun, you’ll probably be greeted by one or two of their incredibly sweet pups. In fact, the dogs loved hanging out with us, which of course is due to the fact that we are dog people and invited them to do so. It felt great knowing that they were guarding the entire place, and are also so loving… The place was designed and built by Peter, and if I'm not mistaken, adorned with art created by Rocio's Uncle ( or cousin? Forgive and or correct me Peter! ) which is really beautiful, and adds a really cozy touch to everything. It's very clean, and has everything you'd need to cook in the kitchen part of the room. The house its self is settled atop a cliff, overlooking a gorgeous panoramic bay landscape, which made our breakfast time breathtaking and engaging, as exotic birds flew overhead, and monstrous toads croaked in the distance. ( I loved that ) If you’re really, really early to get up, the sunrise is a particularly special treat, especially if you take it all in sitting at the pool. At night time, should you be visiting during the rainy season, you'll be treated to some awe inspiring lightening storms in the distant horizon, over the water. And if it's a clear night, the stars seem close enough to reach. Shooting stars, and passing satellites are also often seen, which is totally cool. The patio deck has a nice breakfast table, and a very comfy hammock, if you simply want to lounge around and do absolutely nothing for a while. It’s great to just...

  • We had a wonderful one week stay at Peter and Rocio's Geco Cabina. The ocean views from the cabina deck were amazing as well as the forest adjacent to the cabina. Lots of birds, butterflies and a few squirrels with howler monkeys off in the distance. The swimming pool was delightful with awesome ocean views too. The cabina was small but quite comfortable for two. It had lots of nice artistic touches such as nice wall paintings and tile work and quality construction throughout. We had everything we needed for home cooked meals. Peter is very personable. We had wonderful conversations about home construction and tree harvesting. He has a wealth of knowledge about Costa Rica. I felt I had made a new friend. Thanks Peter and Rocio for a great vacation.

  • I cannot overstate how perfect of a guest house that Peter and his family have to offer. We spent a week in the mariposa cabin and were delighted by all it had to offer. We experienced a panorama of the ocean as we woke up and ate breakfast every morning, read in the hammock, cooked in the fully-stocked kitchen, and generally passed our time in a serene cabin. We felt like we were a world away.

The pictures don't do justice to the cabin. It is simple and minimal but not plain, and offers comfort and a vista that is rare. My wife and I got our groceries from the nearby town and ate mango and eggs every morning at a small table overlooking the Pacific ocean.

Peter (email hidden) and has a wonderful family. He clearly cares for the comfort of his guests and he helped us rent an ATV and get a taxi to and from the Tambor airport. The Kahl's are masters of hospitality.

The only thing I recommend is to rent an ATV or a vehicle to access the property. It's off the beaten path, which is great for some seclusion and serenity, but getting around may be difficult without one. We used an ATV for the week and Peter helped arrange acquiring it before we arrived.

This place is a unique and beautiful hideaway. My wife and I fully recommend it.

  • The setting of this quaint little cliff-side cabin is simply a dream - and the pictures barely do any justice! I had to pinch myself once we'd arrived to see these magnificent views in person.

My wife and I stayed in the Colibri cabin for the 2nd leg of our Costa Rican honeymoon. We had picked this part of the country based only on this airbnb listing, and had no idea Montezuma/Delicias was a charming little town as it was!

The Host: Although we didn't meet Peter until the last day, it was lovely to meet him! And their 2 friendly dogs roamed the property and greeted everyone as family!

The Area: A nice 3-4 hour drive South from Liberia, with 1/3 of the roads unpaved dirt/gravel. Montezuma is a sleepy little surf/fishing village, with plenty of great little restaurants, shops, and all around good vibes. Once you pass through the little downtown section of Montezuma beach, it's a steep climb (4-wheel drive and GPS necessities!) up the winding canyon roads into the Delicias neighborhood, where there are many ranch-style homes with large properties and secluded views. Thank you Peter for the detailed directions and hand-drawn map! It would've been quite difficult to find otherwise. I suppose one could walk into town from the property - but it's quite a distance, and the steep roads could become tiresome after a few treks.

The Property: A large stretch of private land nestled along the edge of the Montezuma cliffs, with 2-3 cabins - all boasting spectacular views. Our Colibri cabin was darling and rustic - with little personal & artistic touches everywhere. The cabin had a nice little kitchen/dining area, a loft with a full mattress with a stunning view, and two (email hidden)S TWO.....patio/balcony areas with the incredible views of the tropical beaches and jungle canopy below. Morning coffee was like no other. Did I mention that the shower is outdoors? With the very same breathtaking views? Pretty unreal.

The Wildlife: It was surely a new experience for us to hear the howler monkeys growling away in the treetops below! We also saw a couple Iguanas on the property, and the dogs had even chased a Coati up into the trees. Bugs. In Costa Rica, bugs are really big. Bring bug spray and sleep in the bug nets if you're not ok with our bug friends - or if you're planning on leaving windows/door open at night.

Peter and his family have such an amazing property, and I can highly recommend it to others seeking a similar tropical getaway!

  • We stayed in Mariposa for four days and it was the perfect location to relax and unplug from the outside world. The kitchen was fully stocked for us to prepare meals, including an outdoor charcoal grill, which we utilized for kebabs. The view is breathtaking, with the balcony overlooking the ocean. We were up every morning to enjoy the sunrise; at night, the stars were unbelievable. The outdoor shower had a beautiful view of the ocean too. There were just so manly lovely little details around the cabin, from the floor tile designs to the well placed hammock.

Peter was very helpful with activity suggestions. We also enjoyed spending time with the friendly dog, Luna. We rented a car, which made it getting to town very easy. The cabin is close enough to town if you need anything--the path includes several unpaved hills and a narrow bridge--but it's just far enough to allow for peaceful enjoyment of the scenery. Closest beaches were accessible within a 10 minute drive, and it's a slightly longer, but easy drive to surrounding beaches, such as Malpais and Santa Teresa. Thank you for a wonderful and relaxing vacation, Peter, Rocio, and Natalie!

  • What a lovely stay at this clifftop paradise! My stay at these cabins (I was lucky to get to stay in both the Mariposa and Colibri cabins during my week here) was definitely a highlight of my trip to Costa Rica. Private, with spectacular views up the stunning coastline, and filled with artistic stylings, these cabins are cozy, romantic, relaxing, private and very comfortable. The simple kitchens are filled with the supplies you will need to make meals at home, and the outdoor showers with ocean views are the perfect way to wake up or cool off after a day at the beaches. Also, to any travelers without a car, I stayed a week here without a car and got around just fine. The walk into town is mostly downhill and very scenic, and if you're in good shape the walk back uphill to the cabins is actually a great way to get exercise, I just wouldn't recommend attempting the climb in the heat of the day.

  • This was the BEST part of our trip to Costa Rica! Our casita was so perfect... Such attention to detail... Beautiful views. Peter, Rocio & Natalie were very kind. Upon our arrival, Peter helped us with our bags and showed us around the property, picking fruit off of the trees for us to have. Couldn't have been more charming! This is a no-brainer. Definitely recommend staying here!
(Note: it's a bit of a hike to get to town by foot, but Peter was happy to give us a ride down, and then we would take a cab back for around $7. Easy to get cabs day/night. We also rented an ATV for 24 hours which was a fun way to get around & explore!)

  • Peter's cabin on the cliffs above Montezuma was the last stop on our trip through Central America. Without a doubt, this was the loveliest place we stayed in during the entire holiday - really clean, best room, best bed, best shower and best view! Seeing the sun rise above the ocean every single morning was just breathtaking. The kitchen was fully equipped and offered all things necessary to prepare big breakfasts and cook some great dinners.
The infinity poole next to the main house was free to use for us, definitely a big plus and an amazinbg afternoon refreshment!

The host family is really great, including the two amazing dogs that guarded the property. Peter, Rocio and Natalie have always been helpful when we had questions, gave us great tips to explore the surrounding area and were great company. Thanks for a perfect ending to our holiday! We're hoping to come back one day!
