The Space

We are avid travelers, and we love to stay in B & Bs. We will strive to make your stay as pleasant as possible, based on our own experience. We have had many extremely satisfied guests/friends from around the globe and they have inspired us to share our home on Airbnb.

We are situated in what we think is the absolute best part of Los Angeles. PERIOD! We are in the most walkable, lovable, beautiful, convenient, interesting, bohemian and fun part of LA.

We offer a bedroom and bath located in the front house. The guest room normally has a comfortable king size bed. If you need 2 beds, we can set it up for you as two separate twin size beds, you just need to make the request in a message, when you make your reservation. Note that the bathroom, located across from this room may be shared with one or two guests-- if our other room (the RM #3) is occupied.

You will have access to a cozy living room with fireplace -- wonderful on cooler nights. A large gourmet kitchen is where you might eat breakfast, or you may choose to eat on the patio under the pergola. The patio deck is like an outdoor room of its own, very peaceful, with 2 fountains, lots of plants, flowers and butterflies. We also have a bench in our lush front garden for relaxing and watching passers by.

We own an eclectic beach house designed like a New England cottage and located on a quite, peaceful and safe street, literally surrounded by the some of the best things LA has to offer.

Our unique and comfortable home is a u-shaped 1900 square foot villa with separate front and back homes connected by a large hallway/library. The home nestles around a large and sunny patio deck and garden. Our love of travel, art and life
in general is expressed in our homes furnishings and interior decor.

Our neighborhood, called Washington Square, is loved by locals and visitors alike. Just four short blocks to the ocean and the world famous Venice Beach boardwalk. The historic/gorgeous Venice Canals are two blocks north of us. The most popular street in Venice, Abbot Kinney is five blocks east of us. The Marina Del Rey Harbor is only two blocks south.

Joe is an animation director and producer and Lisa is a graphic designer. We mostly work at home. We are here to be not only as your host and hostess, but your guides. We have lived in Venice Beach and L.A.’s West-side for more then 30 years so if you need suggestions for the many restaurants, galleries, gardens and hikes within walking distance of our home, we can offer a wealth of information to help you plan your visit. If you prefer to be left alone, and to plan your own trip, that is fine too!

We have Cats (See photos). They spend a lot of time outside sunning themselves on the patio deck. Though they are not allowed in your room-- nonetheless, we do not recommend that you stay with us if you are highly allergic to cats. We love animals, but we do not think ours would welcome yours, so no pets please. ;)

We look forward to the opportunity to help you have the best stay ever in LA/Venice!

  • Quiet, homey and delightful. My daughter and I spent 3 spring break days at Venice Beach and can warmly recommend Lisa and Joe. Good breakfast, convenient bikes and super friendly hosts. Even pancakes and a drop off at the airport on our last day.

  • We loved our stay at Lisa and Joe's! Their house was extremely comfortable and inviting. We stayed in the bedroom with Joe's collection of animation books, magazines, and miniature models, and we got to talking with Joe about his experiences with animation and movies! They also had bikes we could rent for the day (unfortunately, we ran out of time), well balanced breakfasts, and a cat named Gandalf.

  • If you want to experience Los Angeles you need to settle on Venice, it is most interesting. Lisa and Joe's house is the most convenient location for this. Joe and Lisa are very creative persons. Joe is an artist and animation producer, so he is he will answer any questions about his profession. Lisa is a graphics designer knows the best places to direct you to if your interests are in design. They can tell you about places to visit with nice atmosphere. If you have fashion interests Lisa will tell you where the most fashionable streets with hipsters, vintage shops, which locals only know about. If you like living a healthy lifestyle you take a run every morning from the house to the beach very near, as I did. Each of rooms of the house is well thought out and designed by owners. It is possible to sleep in a magical and cozy garden Cabana/tent. Where you can be warm yet feel the ocean air and you can hear singing of birds in the morning. Lisa and Joe will prompt you to restaurants with healthy food. I had a very healthy life here. Every morning your breakfasts is prepared. Sometimes homemade muffins, pancakes, frittata and other things. To tell you everything I enjoy about this family and the house is too long. I advise you to experience the atmosphere of Los Angeles together with Lisa and Joe.

  • My friend and I stayed with Lisa & joe at the beginning of march this year and we thoroughly enjoyed their company, their generosity when we needed to use their phone for local calls and their endless advice on getting around LA, particularly because Venice is at least an 1 hour's bus journey from central LA. When we arrived Lisa was kind enough to pick me and my friend up separately as we arrived at different times at a fraction of the cost that a taxi would charge. We stayed in their nautical themed room which was a little cold at times but we had a huge bed with plenty of blankets to keep us warm in the night. It also is a little poor on wifi connection, but fine in the communal areas. On mornings where we had to leave early, Lisa would organise for us to have a packed continental breakfast, even though this was included in the price it was super kind of her to have this ready for us when it was needed. If anyone is looking to rent a room please note the bathroom is shared with other bnb guests, but it is kept clean and is equipped with a decent, powerful shower. All in all I would recommend this to anyone looking to rent a room with lovely hosts, a short walk away from the beach and a quaint experience near to the Venice canals.

    Response from Lisa + Joe:

Dear Anupa, Thanks for your kind and thoughtful review. We are thrilled that you had a nice stay and thanks for your recommendation! We are sorry that you were cold at times, glad that you found the blankets, but please note in the future that our heat can be turned up to a warmer temp.;) And concerning the wifi, we have found that some devices seem to have difficulty getting a strong signal in room #1, and we have a wifi booster on order. In the meantime, thankfully, all other rooms and common areas seem to be strong enough for our guests. Hope to see you and Bina again! :)

  • Great location and great hosts. Also the shower is the best.

  • Lisa and Joe are very friendly and it is nice to have a little chat with them. During my stay there where 3 other people, so we met in the morning in the kitchen and enjoyed the good breakfast!
My room, on the frontside was really cosy and I felt really comfortable. The house is located on walking distance from the beach, super, you can enjoy the sunsets! I rented a car and I was very happy that I could park it at their place. One day I hired a bike from them, I loved it! They have 3 cats, so if you don't like cats, you better search for another stay. The bathroom is clean and the shower is great. loved my stay!

We love living in Venice. It epitomizes everything we love about life. The ocean, art, access to great restaurants, and scenic walks, and the diverse culture. We throughly enjoy having guests, and feel that everyone we meet has a way of enriching our lives. Meeting someone new and hearing their story can be just as entertaining and interesting as watching a great movie. The restaurants in our neighborhood are amazing. We can find just about any type of food we are in the mood for. Some of our favorites are Thai, Italian, Mexican, and Japanese. All within close walking distance. Most of our regular places to visit are not very far away. We appreciate a sunset walk to the Venice Pier, a bike ride to the Santa Monica Pier, a hike in the Santa Monica Mountains or in Joshua Tree National Park, staying at BnB's in Ventura and Santa Barbara, and camping at Big Sur and the Giant Forest. There is lots of free fun to be had in and around Venice. Here's a list of the local events that we love to partake in, and often invite a group of our friends to join us; concerts on the Santa Monica Pier, the Abbot Kinney Festival, The Venice Canal Holiday Boat Parade, The Venice Carnival, The Festival of the Chariots, The Marina Boat Parade, The Marina 4th of July Fireworks and Concerts in Burton Chase Park. How blessed we are to live in Venice. Hope you enjoy your visit as much we do living here. Wherever you stay we hope you thoroughly enjoy your visit to this wonderful place we call home!
