About This Listing
... and my home is a perfect place to come to after a long day of exploring the region: village-hopping, walking, hiking, rafting, canoeing, bicycling, or just taking a long drive for sight-seeing and picture taking.
Wine…Olive oil…Truffles…and of course the Herbs de Provence and Lavender.
Every Provincial dream you've ever had is waiting for you here!
Let me tell you a little about my house:
It is a five story walk-up renovated 5 years ago located inside the Medieval quarter of ancient Aups.
As you can see by the images the stairs between floors are very steep and narrow, typical of a provincial village house; and will give your calves and knees a great workout!
The Movie/Reading lounge is on the ground floor and is especially cool and comfortable in the summer.
Communal Kitchen is on second floor where cooking is encouraged.
This is where you will find laundry facilities as well.
Continental breakfast provided upon request…additional charge 5€ per person
A private suite is on the third level.
Master bedroom suite takes up the entire fourth floor.
Sun-room with a single bed is on the fifth etage. Nice view over the village from here.
No on-premises parking.
Let me tell you about our village:
Aups was once a holiday retreat for Roman soldiers and is now a working village in which all one’s needs are met: very fine restaurants, excellent cafes, highly-skilled artisans in the making of breads, cheeses, sausages and of course wine. We have a wonderful pharmacy, doctors, dentist and veterinarian; as well as dress shops, florists, antiques and art galleries…artisans and craftsmen of all sorts…even a computer repair guy and a mechanic that keeps vintage World War II jeeps active. Our village provincial markets are on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and from November thru February, Aups is host to the regional Truffle Market every Thursday.
Centered in the Haut-Var there are historic and scenic sites and villages a short drive away in every direction. Nearby we have Roman ruins, grottoes, chateaus and abbeys.
Festivals and fairs rule the area from spring through autumn: everything from music; theatre; puppetry; religious. And it's hard to top a village yard sale or two.
I'm available for pick-up or drop-off from airports in Nice or Marseille, an hour and a half drive for both locations or pick-up or drop-off at Les Arcs/Draguignan Train Station 45 min. away.
There is also a regional bus system...the Var-lib.
I'm also available as a tour guide for an additional fee and my rates are very reasonable.
If your time is short, we can make it a picnic day and we'll go to sights you are most interested in.
I am 45 minutes to the auto route; an hour to Aix-en-Provence; 30 minutes to Draguignan(the local prefecture); 20 minutes to Lac Ste Croix; and 30 minutes to the Gorge du Verdon.
Your co-host is a gorgeous four-legged blonde named Heidi Belle.
We enjoyed our stay with Mik and his retriever Heidi in Aups. Mik was great with communication before the trip and his welcome was very detailed. He was very friendly and Heidi is a great well behaved dog. We have been missing our dogs, so we loved having a pet again (albeit for 1 night of our trip!). The house itself is over 4 levels - each level is covered with amazing ornaments and keep sakes that could form a tourist attraction in their own right. The bed is a double so it may be cosier than a couple might be used to. It wasn't a problem for us, but worth mentioning. Mik gave us loads of tips for where to park nearby, where to go to dinner and activities around Lake Verdon which was much appreciated. Thanks for a lovely stay Mik and Heidi!
Great stay at Mik's home while I was visiting the Gorges du Verdon. He, his friend Gwen, and Heidi Belle (gorgeous dog!) made my time in Aups really special. The house itself is absolutely amazing, a cross between an antique shop and a museum--full of neat things and old stuff. Really cool place! Bedroom is huge-- comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Best part is the wood stove! The kitchen is spacious and well equipped, and I was able to make some meals and have some great conversations with Mik & Gwen. I had a wonderful time!
Mik has a very unique great medieval house right in the center of Aups. It is definitely worth a visit for many reasons:
Mik is good company and very knowledgable on tips around the area.
His dog Heidi is a very sweet and funny companion.
The house has been beautifully restored and Mik has lots of interesting stories.
The location is perfect for visits to the Gorge du Verdon, Tourtour or the surrounding area which is beautiful.
I had a great stay and can definitely recommend this place.
We spent two nights at Mik's place and it was great. Set in a characteristic medieval house located right in the centre of Aups, our room was very spaciuos with a fabulous en suite bathroom, and it was the perfect place for us to start exploring the surroundings.
Mik's been a lovely host giving us some great advices on where to go and what to visit. Would definitely recommend it!
Mik is a wonderful host. His Home is very nice and pleasant. The situation in the old town is perfect to enjoy the medieval part of Aups. And it is closed to all the activities in the area (mountain bike, kayak), only few minutes by car.
We had good moments in Aups and in the Mik's house. We recommand for a stay in the area.
Très agréable séjour chez Mik qui nous a reçu comme il se devait.
Maison au calme et atypique où seul le bruit du beau cloché peut vous réveiller.
Mik est disponible et de très bon conseil si vous ne connaissez pas la région.
Thanks a lot once again for this short trip with you and Heidi !
