Mountain view

Guests say the views are lovely.
Deep in the heart of the Texas Hill Country a whole new world awaits with the promise of adventure. A little more than an hour NW of San Antonio, Shadow Dance Ranch offers a private self-catered escape from the city. The newly remodeled 3/2 guest house decorated in Texas Ranch House Chic offers all of the amenities of home. Surrounded by mountains, rivers, lakes and rugged terrain, Shadow Dance offers wide open spaces to be explored and incredible views from every angle, sun up to sun down.

The space
Couples and families alike will enjoy the remote beauty of Shadow Dance Ranch Guest House.

Twenty-five acres of spring-fed lakes and three miles of Hondo Creek afford an opportunity for swimming, paddle boating and catch and release fishing.

Herds of Axis, Fallow, Black Buck and White-tailed Deer, Aoudad and Native Wild Turkey create an excellent atmosphere for wildlife viewing.

Poker table, ping pong table, large outdoor charcoal/wood BBQ grill, picnic table, corn hole boards, horse shoes, paddle boat and hammock will ensure you don't have to leave the ranch to have a good time.

Birding opportunities on the ranch and at nearby Hill Country and Lost Maples State Natural Areas and Garner State Park are abundant throughout the year. The Texas Hill Country is home to approximately 430 bird species, the most popular being the Golden-cheeked Warbler and the Black-capped Vireo.

Due to the dark skies at Shadow Dance Ranch star gazing is popular year round and great for viewing annual meteor showers.

Shadow Dance Ranch is also a working cattle ranch so you will also enjoy meeting our herd of cattle and horses. No ATVs, fireworks or guns please.

Guest access
You'll be free to explore the property including the lakes and river but please respect the privacy of the main house and the ranch manager's house which are on the left side of the road.

Other things to note
Please be sure to review and print the check-in information for ease of check-in when you arrive and in case you don't have cell service. Currently the only available carrier is AT&T and that is spotty at best. You should be able to use wifi calling at the Guest House.

Neighborhood highlights

Accessing the ranch is easy via paved roads. The closest restaurant, Mac and Ernie's Roadside Eatery, is only 5 minutes away in Tarpley. Mac and Ernie's is a popular eatery and people come from all over the U.S. to enjoy their delicious authentic cuisine featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and Andrew Zimmern's Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel.
About 20 miles down the road you will find Bandera, the self-proclaimed "Cowboy Capital of the World". Bandera is a popular spot for shopping, dining and nightlife. It is also home to the Bandera Natural History Museum. The museum is a fun and informative experience for children and adults alike with 18 life-size dinosaurs, play stations and six hand-painted dioramas. As part of Bandera's endeavor to "promote the cowboy way of life" it is not uncommon to see cowboys walking down Main street donning their boots, hats and spurs, or riding a horse along the roadside. All summer long various rodeos take place at the Mansfield Park arena, and they welcome you to grab your boots and hat and join them!
Seventeen miles the opposite direction is the small town of Utopia, population 227 as of the 2010 Census. Highlights of Utopia include the Laurel Tree Guest Table restaurant where you can dine in their tree house dining room. Yes, it is an actual tree house built by Pete Nelson's Tree House Masters. Other favorites include the Sabinal Canyon Museum, Sarah's Utopia gift shop and the Utopia City Park. The annual 4th of July fireworks display at the part is sure to please, and the annual rodeo and dance in June offers a true Texas cowboy experience. The Sabinal River runs through the city park and affords an opportunity to cool off in the summer or fish year round.

Other places to visit less than 60 miles from the ranch include:
Garner State Park - 29 miles Hiking, Birding, Swimming & Dancing
Camp Verde - 32 miles - halfway between Bandera and Kerrville. First established in 1857 as a general store to offer goods and services to the soldiers stationed at Fort Verde.
