The Space

La Palmera is in the centre of old town Barcelona & looks out directly onto the palm lined Plaza Allada Vermell & you need walk no more than 30 meters to be sitting in a good restaurant or bar, many of which have lovely terraces for summer use.

La Palmera is a stylish, beautifully finished apartment in the trendy, central area of El Born. Traditional Morocaan "zelige" tiles have been used extensively , with the exception of the bathroom that is finished in Italian Bisazza Mosaic. It is fully air conditioned & has one double bedroom (with latex mattress) & an open plan space with another Moroccan styled built in double bed that functions as a sofa. La Palmera is fully equipped with everything that you need to make your stay a comfortable & stylish one.

The Picasso Museum is literally around the corner , a 3 minute walk away. The beach is a short bus ride or a 15 minute walk, the famous Las Ramblas is an approximate 10 minute walk & the lovely Ciutadella park is only 5 minutes away. Public transport is close too - 5 minutes to the Metro.

** IMPORTANT Note : There is a one off charge €25 if we have to make up the second bed (i.e 2 people staying in the apartment but not as a couple). This is not to be confused with the €20 per night per person charge for any guest after the standard 2 person booking.

PLEASE NOTE : There is a €30 charge for late arrivals i.e after 21.00

Guest Access

Guests will have personal use of the entire apartment .

Interaction with Guests

We interact a lot with our guests & like to be there for them during their stay - in case of any problem but also just to advise and help e.g if a restaurant recommendation is needed,or what time the pharmacy closes. We will always be contactable : On the phone , via e-mail , (website hidden), SMS , What's App , iMessage - however you like to communicate . Our family also lives only 10 minutes walk from the apartment so we are always at hand in case of any emergency.

The Neighborhood

The trendy, central area of El Born is one of the best places to be in the old town . Lot's of great shops and restaurants , along with wonderful plazas with their terraces and a general feeling of be in the buzzing centre of a mediterranean city. You can walk almost everywhere from the apartment . Don't miss my airbnb guidebook - there are lots of recommendations for fantastic non-touristy places to eat!

Getting around

Public transport is very close and very efficient: in 5-6 minutes walk from the apartment there are 3 metro stops. The apartment is so central that most of the places you will want to visit are within easy walking distance.
Arriving by car :
Parking close to the apartment (Calle Comercio) is very expensive €30 per 24 hours : Try (website hidden) they offer parking from €7 a day if you book on-line (€9 if you don't) . It's not close so you will have to take the metro (line 1) to get back to the apartment. While you are in Barcelona you DO NOT need a car - it's probably the most stupid mode of transport for a short visit to the city & parking is a nightmare!

If you come in a cab you need to ask to be dropped at Carrer Princesa con (with) Carrer Comerç , 08003 Barcelona. This is the easiest way to reach the apartment and at approx €28/€30 very reasonable - especially for 2 or more travellers.
The journey takes approx 25 / 30 minutes - depending on traffic - PLEASE TEXT ME AS YOU PULL AWAY FROM THE AIRPORT - as I can time my arrival. You will be met on that junction as taxis are not allowed to enter the plaza.

Every 10 minutes there is a bus service to & from the airport. It costs €5.90 (price as of Spring 2014) leaves from outside the terminal and drops you at Plaza Catalunya from where you can walk or take a taxi to the junction mentioned above or meet me directly in the plaza. Buy tickets directly on the bus.
Returning to the airport from Plaza Catalunya take the A1 bus for Terminal 1 or the A2 bus for terminal 2. * WARNING : Do not take your eyes off your baggage whilst on the bus as thieves are known to board at times.
From the aerobus stop turn into Carrer de Fontanella ( it runs alongside El Corte Ingles department store) walk for approx 300 m until you hit the traffic lights and then turn into Via Laietana walk downhill for approx until you see Calle Princesa on the left by the Metro stop called "Jaume 1". Walk down Calle Princesa for approx 300 meters & Allada Vermell is the last turn on the left before you hit Carrer de Comerç. Turn left into the Plaza & when you see the palm trees & red stage area in the shape of a D you've arrived !

Other Things to Note

VERY IMPORTANT :: - please be SUPER CAREFUL with all of your belongings at all times here.... Barcelona has major problem with pickpockets and petty theft ( SANTS station is notoriously bad as is the coach station Estacion del nord & anywhere on the metro system !) : Gold chains & handbags are the favourite snatch item.....!

Here is our standard warning that we send to everyone staying with us :

WARNING : Super important if you're new to Barcelona :
Be very careful with your belongings at all times in Barcelona (starting at the airport/station) as pick pocketing / bag snatching , Gold chain snatching etc is rife all over old town Barcelona & basically anywhere where tourists go ( Please see my warning on your reservation confirmation) . Thieves are very professional , work in groups and employ distraction techniques and tricks to rob you.... so be extremely aware of anyone coming into your body space. It's absolutely fine if you keep your wits about you, but if you drop your guard for a minute, then your bag, wallet, iPhone, gold chain etc... can be gone in a flash. I always recommend that girls don't take a handbag out with them & if they do, then don't have anything of value in it - also don't wear gold chains.... a big no no at the moment here ! Best to leave passports & valuables safely in the apartment (there is a safe) . When you're in a bar or restaurant or eating on a terrace, then keep any bag / camera etc on your lap - never by your feet. Barcelona is a great city, but this side of things is really bad here ...but as we say : Forewarned is forearmed! As long as you are careful , you will be fine.

  • Charming flat in the middle of El Born, the most fun neighborhood in Barcelona. Comfortable bed, just enough space, and a very well equipped kitchen. Beautiful bathroom. Stairs are a bit to navigate, but that is par for the course for the old buildings in El Born; it is worth it. Very nice, peaceful view out the window balcony, and the block itself is one of the nicest in El Born. Dave and Sophie just went out of their way in every possible way to be outstanding hosts - they were so accomodating, it was touching! Highly recommended.

  • This is a super cute apartment, located on a sunny square with palm trees you really feel like a local and you can enjoy a glass of wine with tapas next to the front door. The owner Dave redecorated the interior with tasteful Moroccan tiles, original features and everything you need is there: clean towels and bedding, fresh fruit, wifi, tv. He recommended us some good places to eat and was very helpful during the entire stay. I recommend this apartment for sure.
