The house is nostalgic and romantic, yet surprisingly modern, spacious and comfortable. The house consists of three floors. The middle floor (with entrance) is one big livingroom (annex well equipped kitchen) with comfortable sofa's (and big HD-TV). Going down you'll find the bedroom, bathroom (with bath) and my longdesired shala, an empty space with mirrors all along one side where I practise and teach my yoga. On the top floor is another bedroom and bathroom and a study, with access to both terraces with wonderful views on the whole of Amsterdam.
The neighbourhood, the Jordaan, is a highly desirable, residential area in Amsterdam and popular with locals as well as tourists. The area is known for its art galleries and variety of small shops as well as its many cafés, bars, and restaurants and terrace's directly situated at the canals. You can always find something to do just outside my doorstep (Anne Frank house!). On Saturdays and Mondays you can shop at the weekly market with the locals and have a coffee and apple-pie ( the best in the world) at one of the many café's facing the Noorderkerk. Afterwards you can take a walk down one of the beautiful canals for which Amsterdam is so justifiably famous. The Jordaan (email hidden)ly area, friendly and also quiet, less than 10 minutes walk from Central Station, 5 min. walk from the Royal Palace at Damsquare and only 10 minutes biking to the Museum quarter with the main musea and the Royal Concert Hall.
Carine is a friendly and helpful host. When we arrived we were greeted by her and her son and a beautiful bunch of fresh lilies throughout the house that left it smelling wonderfully delightful. She had organized a bunch of travel guides and brochures for us, and she gave us a lovely welcoming tour of the house.
Located in the Jordaan (near everything really) it was perfect for our group of three. Her cozy terrace allowed for great views of the neighborhood and made a great locale for after dinner drinks or a glass of wine at sunset. The layout of bedrooms in the house allowed for plenty of privacy, with a floor separating the two. The bathroom was great, and we took advantage of the beautiful, giant tub as often as we could. We also couldn't ignore her pristine yoga studio for a morning stretch. Carine's home provides a few nooks for relaxing, napping, or reading with comfortable outdoor space, too, to explore.
The neighborhood was quiet and quite lovely. Although close to bars, restaurants, and nightlife, all we could hear was the chirping of birds and occasionally a lone bicycler riding down the street. On Saturday morning, there was a fun farmer's market nearby with great produce, fresh meat and seafood, yummy cheeses, antiques, and many other interesting eye-grabbers. It's a great place to grab a snack for the apartment. Although we could walk anywhere we needed to go, taxis and public transportation are always nearby.
Carine was very professional and accommodating. She provided a house manual that provided all the information we would need and promptly responded to any emails or inquiries we had.
All in all, this house was a great place to stay. Wouldn't change a thing. Will stay here again the next time in Amsterdam... unless it's already booked...because it's awesome! :-)
One note: There are two flights of narrow steep stairwells to get to the apartment, and there are three steep stairwells in the apartment. We didn't have a problem with this, but I imagine some may want to be aware before renting...
We spent a weekend in Carine's house in Jordaan at the end of January 2014. It was a fantastic home away from home in the nicest area of central Amsterdam. We walked there from Central Staion in about 15mins. There are many bars, cafes and restaurants within a few minutes walk of the front door and several markets, and the shops and boutiques of the '9 streets' are also closeby.
Carine was a pleasure to deal with throughout, and Poliana, who did the check-in, was equally pleasant and informative.
The house is tucked away on a charming, quiet street yet offers bright and exceptionally spacious accommodation, There were only two of us but the house would be perfect for two couples. The views from the rooftop terrace are a wonderful added bonus!
Apple pie at Winkel on Noordermarkt is an absolute must-do.
This was a truly magical stay in the heart of Amsterdam - we really could not have found a better place!! From the quirky streets of Jordaan we felt we had our own home in this sprawling 3 floored apartment with a roof terrace with great views over the city including the famous Westerkerk church nearby.
Carine has been a fantastic host with regular communication and tips, suggestions for what to do. She leaves you in her home with trust and in turn you feel you get the real Dutch experience by staying there. I personally loved her Yoga studio for my practice and we enjoyed the roof terrace. Bedrooms are a little small but its no big deal for a quick trip that you are hardly in your bed for anyway!
The house and the host Carine were great! Everything was perfect and very clean. We forgot our towels and umbrellas at home and Carine was so kind to give us anything we needed. The location of the house is more than perfect - in the best neighborhood Jordaan next to many good restaurants and bars and the city center.
We are very happy of the visit and definitely will come back!
We had a fabulous stay in this unique and impressive apartment. I traveled with my husband and another couple and the apartment was the perfect size for the four of us. Carine was so easy to get in touch with. She provided us, in advance, with her "house rules" for the apartment which provided us with so much information regarding restaurants, the neighborhood, and the place itself. In addition, this apartment could not be in a better neighborhood. The Jordaan neighborhood is beautiful and there are many great cafe's and restaurants all within walking distance to the apartment. If I ever return to Amsterdam, there is no doubt I will be staying at Carine's place! I would highly recommend to anyone.
Me and my family stayed at Carine's house for almost one week. everything was great! Carine was so nice and warm. it was a pleasure to meet her. it has the best location ever!!!
it's a big apartment , and it was wonderful for my child and baby!! also the special terrace, we ate breakfast there every day:) the house is very clean!!! and the kitchen is well equipped.
ill defiantly come back:)
I stayed in Carine´s appartment one week with my sister and my brother in law. It was absolutely nice, perfect located in the middle of the Jordaan. We were very lucky with the weather, so we enjoyed especially the roof terrace where we could lay on Carine´s Yoga mats and watch the stars :-))). Carine was on vacation during our stay. Nonethless she stayed in contact with us, gave helpful information if needed and was very reliable in answering questions via Email. On our check-out day we were very lucky and finally met Carine personally. It was a pleasure staying with her, I can warmly recommend her as a host and also her appartment.
Carine is a great host and she has an amazing apartment. If I'm coming back to Amsterdam and if she is willing to rent her home again, this is definitely the place I would choose
Carine is one of the best AirBnB hosts I have encountered so far. Her beautiful apartment is very clean and everything is in good working order. Communication was very good and I never had trouble getting in touch with her while arranging the reservation.
The apartment is fantastic with three floors including a roof deck. It is in a great location in the Jordan; quiet but close to all the bars and cafes you can handle.
The lay out would be perfect for two couples or two travelers who each want their own privacy (top floor has a bedroom and full bathroom and bottom floor has bedroom and full bathroom, with living are on the middle floor). It can handle a third person, if they don't mind the couch or an air (email hidden)ere is plenty of space.
It is Amsterdam, so expect some steep stairs!
This place would be my first choice when travelling to Amsterdam
We had a great visit and really enjoyed the apartment. Everything we needed was there and it was so easy to get to all of the sites we wanted to visit. Carine was easy to reach throughout the process and was very flexible with both check-in and check-out. I would definitely stay here again!
