The Space

Private 1 BR apt in beautiful historic home. Apt is 2 rooms plus full bathroom. Private entrance. There is small fridge and microwave. Washer and dryer available. Very private and quiet. Daylight apt in basement facing woods and Capitol Lake. You will sleep very well. Free internet, small cable TV. This apt is perfect for anyone with intermittent legislative business in Olympia, for parent(s) with kids at The Evergreen State College, or anything else!

We are 2 blocks from the state Capitol and leg buildings, and a short walk/shuttle ride to downtown. The neighborhood is all historic homes, with lovely, friendly neighbors.

We are very central to Mt Rainier National Park, the Olympic mountains, and a short ride to Seattle and Portland.

You might even run into our amazing wheaten terrier!

  • I loved staying here! It was extremely comfortable, especially the bed, and very homey and welcoming. I felt very safe. There is a lot of room, and the tub is extra large for soaking. Gary communicated with me about arrival particulars, so I was confident about getting in. Everything was so clean and orderly with all needs met, coffee and snacks stocked. The grounds and main house were beautiful with a view of the lake. I highly recommend this location next to the capitol, near town, and easy access to the freeway. I was totally happy with my choice of a place to stay during my visit to beautiful Olympia.

  • Gary & Ruby are the ideal Airbnb hosts and their little basement apartment is very comfortable for one or two people, as long as you don't want to cook. They left me coffee, fruit and a bottle of wine, as well as a note with info about local restaurants and shops. The off street parking is essential in downtown Olympia and the location is really convenient. I definitely plan to visit them again when I am in the neighborhood!

  • This was such a lovely place to stay! What a view!!! They even had Equal Exchange coffee! Very nice part of town, close to everything I needed. I had a great time in Olympia and I would definitely stay at Gary's again.

  • Gary's place was great! It was a 15 minute or so walk from downtown and the scenery around the place was BEAUTIFUL. The basement apartment itself was incredibly comfortable. It was stocked full of coffee, OJ, and other necessities - which was so helpful and nice. Gary was communicative. He wasn't there when I stayed, but one of his friends was. She was incredibly helpful and even baked me banana bread once!

I really recommend staying at Gary's. It was comfortable, easy, accessible, and convenient.

  • Gary was a wonderful host! I really enjoyed the cozy basement apartment. It was very quiet and the coffee and to-go breakfast was an incredible surprise during my work visit to Olympia. Internet is spotty in the basement, but works great on the porch!

    Thank you, Gary!

  • Basic and simple small basement apt below this home. Relaxing deck up above to enjoy the quiet neighborhood and reflection of the lake through the tall trees. If you have any business at the capitol; this is a great location. Gary and Ruby were very flexible and it was nice to have their snack treats after a long flight and a long drive at night.

  • What a quiet and relaxing space to stay in. Situated in a lovely neighborhood, easy access and parking. The Franklin's are wonderful hosts and were welcoming and open.

I hope to have a chance to visit Olympia again - I'd definitely stay here!

  • In a very quiet neighborhood close to downtown. Easy parking, easy access. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. The apartment was clean and quiet. They were working on the lake viewing area but I'm sure it's spectacular by now. The garden of the main house is a beautiful variety of flowers and vegetables.

    Very convenient.

  • Very warm and friendly hosts and a quiet, cozy apartment. Great location with a tantalizing view of the lake through the woods but just a few minutes away from downtown Olympia and lots of restaurants and shops. I was sorry that my visit was so short!
