On your arrival you will also find a bottle of chilled champagne for your first usage of the jacuzzi. In the appartment I leave you fresh milk, tea and coffee for your arrival. There are 3 coffee machines, (see above). In this way you can prepare your coffee and tea yourselves when you're ready, and I bring you each morning a croissant and a chocolatine freshly cooked (yumm) plus bread for each person, the standard french breakfast, plus orange juice, butter and jams. If you would prefer 2 croissants, or 2 chocolatines, or pain au raisin, instead of one of each for example please let me know in advance. I usually bring the tray and leave it outside your front door around 8h00 or 8h30, let me know if you need it earlier than that.
** I can come and pick you up from the airport or train station for a small fee, only half of that of a taxi, and even less if I'm already in the area for any reason, you can just contribute to petrol.
** Likewise, if you are coming without a car (possible as there is a small shop walking distance away and we have bikes for outings) I am happy to drive you to the local supermarket when I'm going for no charge.
** For larger groups I have a 7 seater car that you can hire on a daily or half daily basis.
** Ask me about the caves, underneath our village, I can take you on a tour if you like....
** Meal of the Day can be arranged, either served in your appartment or at the family table, roast 2kg grain fed chicken with fresh vegetables and the best home made french fries in the area, cheese platter, coffee and freshly baked biscuits, plus all the wine you can drink... - all produce from within a 5 km radius and fresh on the day. Just one example daily meal. We need to know 24 hours in advance. Price from 15 to 20 euros per person, including all the wine you can drink!
** For the history and archeaology lovers, a very old region, the local church is 10th century but much older than that, roman gold coins have been found on our grounds, and just metres away in Romagne, a farmer ploughing his land for planting vineyards came across the roof of an old building, when the archeological society came to investigate (a legal obligatgion) they excavated a roman ruin. When they were finished the farmer filled it back up again to plant his vines - wine is sacred....! Our neiqhbour has a well that half way down has a tunnel that leads somewhere - yet to be investigated... Previous guests are certain of having found markings of the cathar knights on a rocky road up to the main village from us.
PETS!!! Note that we have a dog and 2 cats. The dog, Doggy is in our part of the garden and can't leave, very strict regulations about dogs being enclosed here, so for those of you scared of dogs he can't get out (but actually loves being with people unfortunately for him!) We have 2 cats, one that lives with Doggy and is very old, and another one that is our cat called Katleen and is very sweet. If you read in some of the comments, we have some negative feedback - this spring (2012) 2 wild mother cats had their babies here and due to the large number of families visiting with children, the children adopted the kittens for the length of their stay resulting in the most friendly and human loving kittens you had ever seen! We had so many crying children at the end of their trips when they couldn't take the kittens home I can't even tell you! Unfortunately (or fortunately for those of you that don't like cats) there are no kittens left, placed or killed on the road due to the fact that they were so so tame they would sleep on the road :-( and the mother cat has since been caught and desexed.... So the comments about unruly kittens invading your appartment no longer applies!
Guests have access to the 1.5 hectares of our property, with the exception of an area that Doggy, our dog lives in. (He can't get out by the way, only when I take him on walks). Afterwards, there's also the pool, available to all guests, wading and swimming pool, hammocks in the garden, bicycles in the bicycle shed (please check with me first as sometimes people book them), the sauna (again on demand to be prepared, and I need to show you how to light the fire ), the jacuzzi, (on demand for the same reasons as well). There is WIFI access in the appartments, I will give you the code when you arrive.
Interaction with Guests
I am present on the property, available when you need me, but as discreet as possible! I love to interact with my guests when that is what they are looking for, but if they prefer more privacy that is fine for me, I would never intrude.
This is probably the most stylish place we have stayed in, and that, in a rural setting, is a really magical combination. The loft is not too spacious but you are going to spend most of the time outside so that should not matter.
The location provides easy access to many gorgeous towns and villages, just rent a car.
Simone was a great host, graceful, knowledgeable, with great English, she also suggested a great up and coming fancy restaurant in Saint Emillion, a culinary highlight of our trip.
There are certain things that may require a little adjustment there so if they bother you, be warned. The toilet, right next to the kitchen, is not entirely enclosed. The air refreshener takes care of it completely. The bedroom is directly under the roof so it can be a little warm, and there is no AC. Again, the fan was sufficient.
Children were absolutely thrilled with resident kittens, climable trees, and treats from local markets. Overall, a great experience.
We had a great stay with Simone. She was very generous with her time and the space is beautiful. Simone helped us find great experiences related to good food and wine. I would highly recommend this spot for relaxing or for really good wine tourism. Simone embodies all that is good about the airbnb community, kind, generous, easy going and a host who works hard to provide a nice space and and a good experience. The property itself is really nice in a great location. Make sure you plan a longer stay as the charm of that area will work it's magic.
Welcomed in person, Simone is friendly and fluent in both English and French. Great recommendations for things to do in the area. Property is just as described. Car is needed to make full advantage of surrounding areas. We had a great time making use of the bikes which are available for use!
There are very few words to describe how wonderful our stay was at Simone's in La Goilane. The apartment is perfectly as described, and the setting is truly picturesque. Simone was utterly delightful and helpful, and we loved having chats in the yard at dusk over a glass of wine.
Stand out, of course, was her phenomenal cooking skills. We took her up on the offer of a home cooked meal on our final night, and we were blown away. We have been to several high-end restaurants on our trip and this met, if not surpassed, the quality. Three courses, wine, bread, what more could we ask for?
Breakfast bought to the door daily was an extra treat - yet another reason to choose Simone's.
Recommendations for Chez Marie in a town close-by for a truly French lunch was much appreciated. We couldn't have imagined a more authentic experience.
We really hope to return in the future!
Simone's loft was a great base for a couple of nights stay. Communication with Simone was great and the breakfast that she provided set us up for the day. The area is very quiet and peaceful but Simone provided us with a list of restaurants and shops nearby so we could make the most of the facilities in the area.
