About this listing
Beautiful quaint writer's studio, close enough to everything yet just outside of the hustle bustle. Come home in the foliage, hear the waves crashing at night and get up the next morning to live it up in LA!
Ascend the 72 brick steps winding up a vine covered hillside to reach this classic cottage in the clouds. We're nestled in the canyon adjacent to the world famous Santa Monica stairs.
This writer's studio, with it's own private entrance, is a perfect little getaway, yet close to all that LA has to offer. It is equipped with a small, but full kitchen, bathroom, Wi-Fi internet, cable, plenty of closet space, access to washer/dryer.
Beautiful views of the canyon and the ocean. Three blocks from the beach, biking distance from the 3rd street promenade and the Venice boardwalk. This area boasts some of the finest restaurants and clubs in all of Los Angeles. Spend the morning surfing in nearby Malibu, then pack a lunch and head to Topanga canyon in the afternoon to hike one of the many trails. Hope you enjoy our little cottage as much as we do!!
The Number 9 bus stops directly in front of our stairs, and the bus schedule is online for all other buses/trains.
We now have two beach cruisers for rent! On the beach they rent for $40/day....we will rent for just $5/day!! Lock included :)
The place is nestled in nature, covered in vines, trees and bamboo which house all kinds of wildlife critters like squirrels, birds, and many others you would expect to see in this area.
Your own studio with small, but full kitchen. Washer/Dryer(around the other side of the house)
Bikes available for rent.
Interaction with Guests
We always love to greet you when possible, if we are not at work when you arrive. Other than that we try to give you your space, but feel free to come up and join us for our dinner parties(as we've done with a few guests so far!) or hopefully we'll see you coming up and down the steps :)
This neighborhood is very friendly with many families that have lived here for a long time. There's a school on this block so it's very safe. We have people from all over the world coming to visit this area with the beach and the stairs and the nice little restaurants down the streets. You will love this spot.
We do have street parking if you bring a car. There is the number 9 bus that stops directly in front of our stairs. It will take you to the 3rd street promenade as well as link you up with other buses that take you all over LA. We are also directly off the Pacific Coast Hwy (hwy 1) which takes you to Malibu and up the coast, or filters you onto the 10 freeway to Downtown LA. Very easy access to everything.
Other Things to Note
There are all kinds of wildlife here, squirrels, coyotes, cats, spiders, raccoons, birds, and anything that may live outside...we do live in a unique house on the hillside that attracts all living things. :)
No more than 2 people allowed, it's simply not big enough.
Small(and I mean small) dogs only upon request and only if you take the dog with you everywhere you go. You cannot leave the dog in the studio by itself, and the dog cannot bark.
NO SMOKING in the house or outside of the house....sorry the smoke heads directly into my bedroom.
You may have visitors, but No parties.
We will give you 2 keys for entry, and can arrange the key exchange via personal email one day before your reservation.
Please bring valid ID for at least 1 person on the reservation for verification.
Kids are welcome, but no more than 2 people total for the Studio.
We do live in the house and ask that if you have any concerns while staying here to please say something right away. We want you to be very comfortable staying here.
Sasa and Tad were very flexible with our arrival time, and had a nice bottle of cold white wine waiting in the fridge for us. The studio was very much as described in the listing, very cosy and comfortable and perched on the side of Santa Monica Canyon with a view of the ocean but very close to downtown as well. They had a couple of bikes that we used for a long ride on the beach, and got lots of exercise climbing the long winding steps to the studio.
The cottage is located in a very quiet area literally just few minutes on foot form the beach - perfect for anyone looking for an affordable stay in Santa Monica. It is very small, but clean and offers all the necessities. Sofa bed could be a challenge for those staying longer time. However, internet and TV works perfectly, and we had no problem communicating with the hosts. We were allowed to use their washing facilities and it was a big help on a long trip. Parking is very easy and free on a street nearby. Would definitely recommend.
We stayed at Sasa and Tad's place for 3 nights while visiting LA. The place was great, really nice location. Close to the beach and our favourite part of LA. Sasa came by and said hi and she was really nice. When we go to LA again at some point we would surely try to book it again. Thanks for the stay:)
We absolutely loved our stay here! Located right next to the historic Santa Monica steps-- and SO close to the beach/Pacific Coastline-- it was a fantastic bohemian like nook. It was cute, clean and comfortable. There was wine left for us by Sasa and we actually ran into Tad who told us to give him a call about where to go on the 4th of July. Very nice hosts- great experience- location is A+ and I will be back!
Great location! Access to the bikes was invaluable. An awesome place to see Santa Monica and the surrounding area. We loved this cottage in the clouds, a hidden gem:)
This place is small but in a great area, if you want to be on the westside of LA. It is not far from the beach or Santa Monica. One can basically walk to explore...Communication with Sasa was prompt and easygoing.
About the Host, Tad And Sasa
We are 2 friends that live in the Main house who have decided to rent the Studio as a vacation getaway. Sasa has lived in the house for over 2 years, and Tad moved in a little over a year ago. The previous tenants lived here over 7 years so you can see how much this "diamond in the rough" house really feels like home. Sasa has a grass-fed beef jerky company called Jamie's Jerky, and also works in the film industry as a production accountant. Tad is an amazing artist and musician that has recently started his own art studio near downtown LA. We are both really chill people and can't wait to share this side of LA with all those interested.
