The Space

Garden Cottage is self-contained and located within our established woodland garden in the small rural township of Stanley, north east Victoria. This is quite simply a glorious spot - calm, quiet and yet just 10 minutes from historic Beechworth. One guest said it was 'head clearing' space which can't be bad! The cottage has a queen-sized bed and lovely crisp, cotton sheets.
We find that many people want to stay simply to wind down, watch the birdlife, go for long walks, read or maybe even write that novel (and we do have writers who come to stay for lengthy periods).
Beechworth offers extensive shopping - as well as all the basics - and the selection of food and places to eat is impressive. This region is one of the most highly respected by gourmet travellers and day trips out into the wineries and beyond are always inspiring.
Day trips can also include travelling up into the Alps, walking in the mountains and really experiencing just what this north eastern landscape has to offer.
You have all of the technology you can possibly need, new TV/DVD, a great kitchen and even a washing machine for the longer stays. And, apparently, one of the most comfortable sofas around...please feel free to contact us if we can help at all.
As an accredited cycle friendly business and as cyclists, we can offer extensive local knowledge, suggestions and information for your cycling holiday.
In addition, we can also offer drop off and pick up with bikes for a fee.
Please feel free to ask.
Please note that we do charge $180 for a one night weekly stay and $200 for a one night weekend stay. Please feel free to ask us about that. Thank you.

  • My partner and I arrived at the charming garden cottage after driving up from Melbourne. On arrival it was warm, cosy and clean with secure off street parking. Tucked out the back of Jenny and Steve’s property featuring a charming outlook over their garden, it was the perfect spot to take in the quiet countryside without forfeiting all the luxuries of home (my partner was still able to follow the World Cup on the flat screen TV!) Given that is was a 10 minute drive from Beechworth township we found the fully working kitchen handy, allowing us to enjoy a meal and glass of wine without the drive home. However, it was the small touches of Jenny and Steve’s warm hospitality that made our stay most memorable; the tea set and cookies waiting for us on the table, a jug of milk in the fridge, plush bathroom towels and a comfy and clean bed made for a cosy winter long weekend away. We would recommend a stay at Garden Cottage to our Melbourne friends and family and wished we had stayed a little longer to enjoy all the area had to offer.

  • We had a relaxing week in Garden Cottage, which was warm and cosy on the rainy days and light and airy on the sunny ones. The cottage was immaculately presented and very well equipped if you feel like cooking. Jenny and Steven were friendly and thoughtful hosts.

  • Jenny provides a wonderful little cottage that had absolutely everything we needed for the stay. There was even milk and eggs in the fridge on our arrival! Jenny and Stephen were friendly hosts who willingly shared their knowledge of the local area. I would be happy to stay there again.

  • We only had one night at Garden Cottage but I'd be most happy to stay longer. It was cosy, homely and very welcoming and in a beautiful part of the country just a few minutes drive to Beechworth,
    Highly recommended!

  • What an amazing place! Jenny is very thoughtful and hospitable and the Garden Cottage has everything you could want (email hidden) to stay. The kitchen is more than adequate and comes with all of the basics needed for cooking. Such a cozy little spot, we really didn't want to leave. The property itself is beautiful and just down the road from Stanley Pub. A beautiful 10 minute drive from Beechworth. The Cottage itself is very eco-friendly -- powered by solar and the water is from rainwater tank. Plan on staying here again. Thanks Jenny and Stephen!

  • Jenny's Garden Cottage is at Stanley, 9 km from the bustle of Beechworth, less than 4 hours from Melbourne and nicely located on the edge of the tall timbers. We enjoyed our long weekend there. The highlight of Stanley is the fine dining in the dining room at the Stanley Pub, a short walk from Garden Cottage. We bought the freshest and sweetest apples ever at the apple orchard at Snowline Fruits 5 km away. The cottage comes with teabags, basic kitchen needs like oil, vinegar and sugar, fresh eggs and herbs from Jenny's garden.

  • The Garden Cottage is a gorgeous spot. It is very well laid out and you really feel you're in the countryside. Stanley is a cute little town with a number of short trails to walk. We had a sensational gourmet dinner at the local pub.

Our only complaint is that we don't live here fulltime! We really hope to be back.
