This is my second stay with Melinda, and I can't complain about a thing. As with the last time I stayed, she was helpful and gracious. If you need an inexpensive place to hang your hat for a few days with easy access to downtown and other attractions this is the place
I was in town alone for 8 days to train for running, and staying with Melinda was awesome. There was yogurt and bread to eat before I got to the grocery store, and I was able to cook dinner almost every night. Tons of books to read and Melinda is such a awesome woman!!! Also, literally everything you need is within walking distance at Liberty station. As a young girl I was safe and comfortable. The airplanes didn't bother me at all. Would definitely come back for another stay. To the reviewers that say it isn't clean enough... I would remind them that this is a home, not a hotel. If hotel-like cleanliness is THAT important to you, than stay in a hotel for $100 more. It was just fine for me!
My sister and I very much appreciated our stay with Melinda. She's a delightful, helpful person. I liked the room. The neighborhood is great. Shops, restaurants, parks, and a harbor are all within a short walk.
Melinda is a great host, she is very flexible on what time to meet her at her home. I love her place. Hardwood floors and Mexican tile everywhere. The cat is also very friendly and kept me company on the sofa while I watched TV. The airplanes from San Diego airport go right over her place but as long as you are up before 6:30 when they start their morning takeoffs it shouldn't be a problem as it is quiet all night. I recommend the small bed as it is firmer then the large one which is very soft.
Melinda is a great personality. She graciously accepted my last minute request. She is kind and very hospitable. The house located in a very convenient neighborhood. Airplanes did not bother me at all.
Melinda is a nice person and gracious host. I was in town for a conference and did not want to rent a car. She picked me up from the meeting for a low rate ($10/ride), which was cheaper and more convenient than getting a taxi. Since she's lived in San Diego for some time, she had good suggestions of where to go to eat, what to see, how to get around, etc..... The room I stayed in fit my needs well, was clean, and the accommodations were comfortable. This was my first experience with airbnb and I'm happy to say it was a good one thanks to Melinda.
Was my second stay at Melinda's house - see my review of my december 2012 stay. Again, no surprises: same coziness and friendly-laid back atmosphere. Still on top of my San Diego's fav. Great location; highly civilized and practical. Recommended!
Melinda was out of town when I arrived, but had given me the door code. My room upstairs was simple and comfortable. Had no problem with lack of AC, just opened the windows. As for the roar of the jets, they seemed not to have bothered me; if they woke me up, I don't remember. (Caveat: I've had five children and 12 grand kids, so I might have an automatic shut-off for noise.)
The only thing lacking was the wi-fi code, but I got it from another guest. There was a critter emergency adventure that Melinda handled with fortitude and grace. I was impressed.
I was already in bed when Melissa returned, and found it very sweet that she put out a banana for me outside my room. Also in the morning she went to the store and bought bagels and yogurt and orange juice. . Note: if you're a coffee drinker, tell Melissa before hand, and I'm sure she'd have some available.
Location is great, close to the airport and walking distance to a mall with shops and yoga and a restaurant bar.
I only stayed one night, but I'd stay again. As for cleanliness and neatness, It was okay for me, ambiance and comfort are more important. Melissa is a gracious host, with a great sense of humor.
Grosse Pointe Michigan
The place was perfect and Melinda was a very hospitable host. The location is close to downtown and near the beaches (just a little bit noisy because near the airport).
With the car there are not problems to transferts.
I hope to come back again.
Convenient location, Melinda was sweet and friendly
Messy place, the bathroom flush was broken, the room carpet had stains, overally didnt feel the place was clean.
One last thing, when I left her place and was at the airport, i realized I forgot my keys at Melinda's house. Melinda was kind enough to make me aware that I had forgotten the keys. Now, Melinda's house is 5 minutes away from the airport, and she was already driving towards the airport. What was dissapointing is she asked for $20 to drop off the key which I thought was pretty cheap. It isn't about the money, I would have given her more, if not the same amount if she were to mail it or was driving from a distance etc, but a 5 minute drive and trying to make money out of an innocent mistake was disappointing.
Sachin is correct that the downstairs toilet broke w/ him (no problem; it was fixed exactly 24 hours later); another bathroom and toilet is available near his room, and I have a master bathroom too. This home is a family home; my children's pictures, artifacts are (website hidden): bedroom carpet; I had scheduled the carpet cleaner for the Saturday, he booked the room that Sat.afternoon. so I postponed the cleaner to Monday afternoon; the carpet looks spectacular! Re: keys: Sachin did not realize it: I informed him. I discovered them on an empty desktop w/i 3 minutes of him leaving to the gas station that I recommended that he go to on the way to the airport. My other guest and I went quickly there and sent an airbnb message that his keys were left here. Upon not seeing him , returned home. I sent another message that keys were here. He also left the phone charger, I then noticed. He saw the message and wrote: "Oh shoo...". I asked if he was through he security gates. He wrote if I could FedEx them and he would pay me. Ten min. later, he called me directly and asked if I could bring them right then to the commuter terminal. I agreed and asked for $20. (my second trip for him and a doctor appt in 50 min. timeline) We drove again; he was surprised to see that we had his phone charger too. He kindly paid; had written me that the keys were critical. He notes that the airport was on my way; untrue: my neurosurgeon appt. was north ten miles; the airport is east of my (website hidden): price of room. He did meet me at 9:45 the first night; friendly brief conversation; he asked if the room was available another night; I said yes. He asked that I lower it from the lowered $55 already to $45. I said $50; he agreed. The next morning, he asked again for a $ 45. rate; I said $50. Then he offered cash; but I preferred airbnb. Upon me trying to set up the lowered rate , I called airbnb and they walked me through it; S. wanted to understand the % rate; so they explained it to us. I lowered the rate to $48. as a courtesy. It was disappointing to be asked twice to lower the rate; also, I spent 50 minutes of time working w/ Sachin w/ the accidental mishap of forgetting important items to him.
