There are journeys to be remembered & this is one! Alex's place is tucked away from the main road, but easily within walking distance to the little corner stores or the 'collectivos' that take you anywhere. The cabin is comfortable & colorful, just a nice distance from her house for privacy, yet Alex was always gracious about helping me find or understand anything I needed to. I traveled as a single woman alone, & staying here made me feel very safe, with a privacy that is so important to me, but the knowledge that help or support is right there. The front porch & hammock was where I spent leisurely mornings & afternoons, with the sun streaming in & not a care in the world. Don't miss this lovely cabin if you are looking for beauty, simplicity & a way back to that part of yourself!

I can't imagine a more magical place to spend a few days in tranquil St. Agustín de Etla.

The cabana is exactly as described and pictured- private, rustic, peaceful. Alex is a respectful and warm host, knowledgeable and easygoing. Though we were only there for two days, it was a pleasure to get a sense of where we were through her home and that part of the village.

Alex's cabin is not luxurious but is quite adequate. The physical accommodation is the least of our reasons for recommending this place highly and, we hope, returning. Much more important is the village of San Augustin Etla, which is one of the nicest and friendliest that we have visited. Most important is Alex herself. She is so kind, well-informed and helpful that staying at her place is a pleasure. And for us gringos, it's nice that she speaks English at least as well as we do!

Alex cabin is a peaceful stay out of the city. We read, watched a movie, took a wonderful walk in the mountains, had good coffee in town and enjoyed talking to Alex. She is a bilingual art/cultural guide. So book a tour too. The cabin is very clean and has the basics for cooking, best to buy supplies in Oaxaca city, there are tiendas in walking distance and pizza delievery if need be...

Alex is a commensurate host. What can I say that hasn't already been proclaimed by other reviewers? She is a veritable treasure trove of information about the small town in which she lives (as well as Oaxaca as well as Mexico!), and can readily point you in any direction that your heart desires to go. She will happily speak English or Spanish with you, and for people like me, a first-time loner in a foreign country, she is patient and willing to show the ropes. The cabin is great, ecologically-minded, and as private/open as you want it to be. Alex has a great deal of respect for privacy, hers and your own, and is willing to be as little or great a part of your stay as you decide you need. She has a beautiful family, wonderful pets, and a fantastic property to stay on. The town of San Agustin is well-equipped with amazing local food, groceries, surrounding hikes/trails into the wild, and fantastic people. Again, what can I say that hasn't been already said? Go for it!

Alex was a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome. She helped us with finding the locations of different sites and ordering delicious pizza:) San Agustin ETLA is a charming place to wander around when not exploring other parts of Oaxaca, especially the centre de artes in San Agustin, which is quite a treasure.
