Would love to share our lovely space,
I recently spent 28 delightful days at the cabana. My first experience with airbnb and my first meeting with alex and the lovely area of the central valley. The cabana is clean, efficient, private and well equipped for long visits. Alex helped me with needed travel and market information. If you really want to see and understand the great beauty and quiet dignity of Oaxaca and its pueblos this rental is your best home base. I recommend this rental to any and all.H
Alex is warm, friendly and helpful. Her house is right beside the cabin but she is not at all intrusive. The cabin is small and rustic (the tiny kitchen is outside!) but suitable for one or two people. The views are gorgeous.
But be prepared. San Agustin has little in the way of amenities. You need to plan your food and drink needs carefully. It's a 45--minute collectivo ride to Oaxaca so you can't just pop in-and-out. The sleeping area is a small elevated loft so not ideal if you are older or have a problem with a steep staircase. But if you're looking for a country idyll this may be your cup of tea.
Loved staying at the cabana! My partner and I stayed there for almost 2 months and enjoyed our stay immensely. Such a sweet spot and so peaceful. Alex's dog, Blade, and her cats came over and visited everyday. Perfect place for a quiet retreat for art, meditation or just to sit back and enjoy the slow life. Great trails right out the door to go walking in the hills! We definitely recommend this spot.
I stayed here for a month and it was great the whole time. Alex was friendly and very helpful. She knows the area very well and can recommend a ton of things to do. The cabana is a great little place, extremely comfortable and the perfect size for one or two people. The town San Agustin Etla is beautiful and quiet, up in the mountains outside Oaxaca city. Everything was perfect, no complaints whatsoever!
Gracias. Aqui tienes tu casa. Saludos, que todo vaya bien. Cheers. Alex
We absolutely had a great time in this cabaña, Alex is an exceptional host, welcoming and full of good tips to discover Oaxaca and the sourrounding towns. We highly recomend it.
Slight remark to mention: the toilet being an eco one, don't expect great flush ; )
Our stay at Alex was so perfect! We love the little cabaña, it´s well designed and there is every thing you need for a short or longer stay. It´s the right size for one or two people, The surroundings are beautiful and the dogs and cats of the house are very friendly and affectionate. Alex is such a good hostess, welcoming, caring and respectful. She surely knows how to share the meaningful life and world she has created around her. We will definitely come back! We loved the village aswell, people are friendly and happy to help you. The CaSa is near and the library there is amazing. Public transportation to Oaxaca is cheap, comfortable and easy.
If you´re looking for quiet, beautiful, nature, come here! Perfect place to write a book, study, paint, read, retreat! (oh, and there is a good wifi!!)
i stayed at alex's cabaña with my wife and three year old son for a week or so. the cabin was a suitable size for the three of us and would be ideal for a traveling couple. many bytes have already been justly used describing her wonderful cabin and it's lovely location. alex herself is an amazing host. she is an encyclopedia of knowledge about the entire central oaxacan valley and it's people, both of which she loves and has chosen to spend a lifetime getting to know. her recommendations and advice are excellent. as a host she is always available but never intrusive; though she lives there, you will feel that you have the expansive property to yourself. if you want company, however, her conversational skills in three languages are surpassed only by the content of that conversation, she has led an amazingly rich life.
stay at alex's, you won't regret it.
I have been visiting Oaxaca during the summer for the last 10 years. Although each place I have stayed had good qualities, I must say that my experience at Alex's cabin was by far the most magical, tranquil, ideal setting I have found myself in to date.
I was able to set up my easel and paint on the veranda every morning.
I loved the daily visits by Blade the dog and Calico Cat. They and Alex made me feel so at home.
Everything I needed was provided, when I saw the French Press for my coffee, I knew I had landed in the right place for me.
Coming and going from Oaxaca City to San Agustin in the collective taxis was always a fun adventure.
Most mornings, I could not bring myself to turn on my music, because the sounds of silence, the birds singing filled me up.
Off in the distance; occasional sounds of the church bells, dogs barking, roosters crowing, fire crackers, the marching bands, announcements of a village, so typical of Oaxaca.
Folks were friendly, sheets were clean, bed comfy, plenty of hot water in the shower, fridge cold, internet connection was good, clean air.
I loved the little outdoor kitchen with the view of the trees branches still visit my minds eye.
The few visitors I had while I was there, all made the same comment, " a very hard place to leave, you just want to stay and look out at the views."
I could never thank Alex enough for providing me with such a wonderful environment for my stay.
The Cabana is absolutely charming and Alex is a wonderful host. It was a joy to spend some very relaxing time there.
It's difficult to describe the experience we had with Alex at the cabaña that hasn't already been written, but here goes.
First, the cabaña: Very well maintained, built by a craftsman and decorated by an artist. Comfortable and cozy environment for lounging while enjoying a coffee in the morning, cerveza at noon or wine in the evening. Most mornings you're greeted with nearby roosters crowing, birds chirping, dogs barking and San Agustin coming to life.
The community: San Agustin Etla, a hamlet of Oaxaca, is a great base for reaching the city of Oaxaca and outlying areas. Taxi colectivo is a short walk from the cabaña. The San Agustin locals are very friendly and there are a couple of nice comedors at the top of the hill. Be sure to visit CaSa!
Alex: A smart, well-traveled, lover of food and art. She was eager to give us beta on Oaxaca and has a heartfelt passion for her community; an excellent host and ambassador for her village, state and country. She immediately made us feel right at home and she was also available if we had any questions during our stay.
That being said, it's important to understand her role as host. She has her own life so don't expect her to be your travel agent or your maid. Be respectful and you'll receive the same.
We would definitely stay with Alex again the next time we visit Oaxaca.
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
