The space

WELCOME!
The Palms Cottage is a spacious and airy 600 square foot stand-alone studio cottage. It has an open floor plan with tropical island décor throughout. The rattan and bamboo furnishings, warm wood, and Hawaiian print fabrics offer a true taste of island living.

The cottage provides tropical flowers, a hand towel, paper towels, dish soap and a new sponge in the kitchen. Freshly laundered linens on the beds. Clean bath towels, wash cloths, a bath mat and hand soap in the bathroom. As well as beach towels and a day cooler with blue ice for your outings.

THE STUDIO
The Palms Cottage was named after the beautifully hand sculpted palm tree bas-relief that decorates the wall of the studio. The cottage sleeps four guests in two very comfortable queen beds. The beds are topped with Tommy Bahama designer quilts and are separated by a nightstand with two reading lamps. There is a large hand-tufted tropical rug at the foot, and a rich wicker armoire that houses the 30” flat-screen/DVD player with basic satellite TV on the far wall. With padded benches, a wicker lounge chair, bamboo shelving, and a small closet, there is plenty of space to unpack and relax.

THE KITCHEN
The kitchen features a full size refrigerator, double sink, four-burner gas cook-top, and is complete with pots/pans, dishware, and cutlery. It has everything you need to prepare a nice meal in your hale (home) away from home, including an outdoor BBQ for your grilling pleasure.

THE BATHROOM
The private bathroom has a shower, toilet, pedestal sink and colorful hand-carved Bali mirror.

THE LANAI
French doors open up to the breezy screened lanai (sunroom) with panoramic garden views. You can hear the waves in the distance as you relax on the 8’ tropical print couch reading your favorite book. The lovely wicker dining set is the perfect place to relax and enjoy your coffee in the morning, and a nice meal with a glass of wine after an adventure filled day.

ECO-FRIENDLY
Our lovely Palms Cottage is fully solar powered and built to peacefully co-exist with its natural surroundings.

My 5 year old and I fell asleep on the porch looking up at the stars! You can't beat the view and location for the price. Their sustainability and eco friendly practices are divine!

Nora's home was amazing! I could see in the pictures that the cottage was clean and very cute but that is a big understatement! I don't know what the best part was. The cottage was beautifully decorated and very clean, the landscaping and surroundings were pristine but by being in the middle of the forest gave it a sense of awe. The lanai was very well screened but we found little lizards are very clever. They eat tiny little pieces of screen to get in. Only two. I could see the screen had been patched a couple of times so you have to make sure all your food is wrapped and put away in the refrigerator always. No spiders, no roaches, no coconut crabs, just birds and frogs! The drive is quite wonderful if you are adventurous. The road is a wide one way and you need to slow down and pull to the side to have a car pass in the opposite direction. All along the road there are vines and trees which at some points cross the road overhead giving you the Jurassic park feeling! All of these along the coast of back lava rocks. Be sure to buy the food you will need before you head to the cottage, the nearest store is in the little town of Pahoa and that is the nearest supermarket 15 miles away. Especially at night. open until 10 pm. During the day there are a couple of others but they close very early. Full kitchen available. Thank you Nora and Michael. Sorry we did not have a chance to meet.

We had an amazing time at Lava Lane Cottages! The location was amazing with fantastic scenery and the ocean is right across the road. My kids loved running around the large grass area and meeting Nora's dog. We loved that the cottage was off the grid and super clean! There were a lot of swimming areas to visit right near by. The cottages are also the best location to do the bike ride out to see the lava flowing into the ocean, which was one our favorite parts of our visit to the big island. Nora was incredibly nice and gave us some tips for our visit. We hope we will be able to visit again soon!

We had an amazing time at Lava Lanes Palm cottage - the cottage and the entire setting and surroundings are breathtakingly beautiful and so Impeccably maintained! Nora left the lights on for us so we had no problems checking in at night. Her directions were better than (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps and we found the place easily! our family of 3 was super comfortable and all amenities were provided. Michael come by and made us feel very welcome and though we didn't meet Nora since we were out most of the time she was always available and super helpful via messaging. This was a great base for us to visit the east side of the island including the Volcano park, lava viewing boat tours that are just 5 miles away (the best thing we did) and Hilo with its lovely waterfalls and botanical gardens. highly recommend staying here! Our regret was we didn't have enough spare time to just hang around and enjoy the tranquil surroundings that the cottage offered!

This adorable little cottage feels secluded but is still so close to many of the Big Island's treasures. Take a walk down the driveway and across the road to watch the waves crashing against the lava, a short drive to awesome snorkeling at the tide pools, or drive and a walk to see the lava meeting the sea. The beds are comfortable, the cottage is the perfect size for a couple or small family, and the kitchen is furnished with what you need to enjoy a home cooked meal.
