Our bright, charming, very clean, studio cottage comfortably sleeps four and is an eco-friendly vacation rental. Surrounded by manicured tropical gardens, on a pristine coastline, we offer a truly authentic Hawaii experience.
The island style kitchen has a full size refrigerator, double sink, four burner cook-top, and everything you need to prepare a nice meal. It is a culinary paradise!
The Palms Cottage is a spacious and airy 600 square foot stand-alone studio cottage. It has an open floor plan with tropical island décor throughout. The rattan and bamboo furnishings, warm wood, and Hawaiian print fabrics offer a true taste of island living.
The cottage provides tropical flowers, a hand towel, paper towels, dish soap and a new sponge in the kitchen. Freshly laundered linens on the beds. Clean bath towels, wash cloths, a bath mat and hand soap in the bathroom. As well as beach towels and a day cooler with blue ice for your outings.
The Palms Cottage was named after the beautifully hand sculpted palm tree bas-relief that decorates the wall of the studio. The cottage sleeps four guests in two very comfortable queen beds. The beds are topped with Tommy Bahama designer quilts and are separated by a nightstand with two reading lamps. There is a large hand-tufted tropical rug at the foot, and a rich wicker armoire that houses the 30” flat-screen/DVD player with basic satellite TV on the far wall. With padded benches, a wicker lounge chair, bamboo shelving, and a small closet, there is plenty of space to unpack and relax.
The kitchen features a full size refrigerator, double sink, four-burner gas cook-top, and is complete with pots/pans, dishware, and cutlery. It has everything you need to prepare a nice meal in your hale (home) away from home, including an outdoor BBQ for your grilling pleasure.
The private bathroom has a shower, toilet, pedestal sink and colorful hand-carved Bali mirror.
French doors open up to the breezy screened lanai (sunroom) with panoramic garden views. You can hear the waves in the distance as you relax on the 8’ tropical print couch reading your favorite book. The lovely wicker dining set is the perfect place to relax and enjoy your coffee in the morning, and a nice meal with a glass of wine after an adventure filled day.
Our lovely Palms Cottage is fully solar powered and built to peacefully co-exist with its natural surroundings.
Offstreet parking and private cottage.
Interaction with Guests
We want you to have the best experience possible. We enjoy meeting our guests and make it a point to introduce ourselves early in your visit, then we leave the amount of interaction up to you. We are available for local recommendations or any other needs you might have during your stay. Our residence is on the property, distanced and obscured by tropical gardens and large fruit trees.
Our 6 acre property is secluded, peaceful, and relaxing. Situated on the pristine Southeastern coast of the Big Island, removed from the hussle of tourism, it truly feels like untouched paradise. It is an idyllic getaway for honeymooners and adventurers alike.
We recommend taking a stroll to the beautiful coastal bay across the street. Kalani Oceanside Retreat is 1/3 mile, and Kehena Black Sand Beach is 1 mile. A short drive in either direction will take you to thermal ponds, coastal tidepools in Kapoho, new black sand beaches in Kalapana, and a once in a lifetime lava hike.
Come for the adventure, stay for a relaxing get away from it all!
Public transportation is limited on the Big Island. We highly recommend renting a car so you can fully explore all that the island has to offer.
The cottage is pet and smoke free.
Everything is as described: a beautiful setting, a well organized and fully equipped space, clear instructions about garbage, clean-up etc..Nora made us feel welcome, but absolutely gave us our privacy. The location is remote, but close enough to beaches, snorkeling, and a wonderful night market! Palms Cottage was perfect!
What a beautiful property and cottage. The location was wonderful, Nora was friendly and welcoming. We appreciated all the environmental care (solar power, recycling), the fresh oranges, the beach towels. Very clean and comfortable! We'll definitely recommend to others
Mike and Nora have created a vacation setting on the Big Island that is idyllic. We stayed in both Bamboo Cottage and Palms Cottage for 6 nights total. The Cottages are nestled on a landscaped estate that is a pleasant 5 minute stroll to the magnificent southeastern shore of the Big Island. Close by are a black sand beach, hot pond, tide pools, lava flows, tree canopies and lush rain forests. While the descriptions of the cottages are complete and accurate, they do not begin to capture the magic of the place. The Cottages are clean and well furnished. The Tommy Bahama sofa, chairs and beds are placed in a setting of tropical pastels, fresh cut flowers, and accents to the decor that are tasteful and well selected. The attention to detail is remarkable. Mike and Nora know the places to eat, the market and beaches to visit and the best times to visit them. They are straightforward, easy to communicate with and very accomodating. From the Cottages, our day trips to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, historic Hilo, and the Town of Pahoa were easy and enjoyable. Genuine Thai, Italian and Mexican restaurants are located on Pahao's main street, along with a well stocked natural foods store, a Kava/Kombucha bar, easy going residents and visitors. To be honest, the Cottages make you want to abandon a lot of your well laid plans and just lay back and enjoy the sound of the wind, the surf and views of the brilliant night time sky. At a fraction of the cost of a resort, we were able to experience genuine Hawai'i with genuine people. The Kohala/Kona coast is not to be missed and Hawaii's white sand beaches are unparalleled, but these Cottages and the area surrounding them are a gem in Hawaii's crown of jewels.
Wir haben uns in Palms Cottage sehr wohl gefühlt. Das nötigste war vorhanden.
Our stay at Palms Cottage was magical!!! Truly a slice of paradise!!
We arrived in the evening after a very long day of travel and as we drove up the driveway to our cottage, it sat there all aglow and welcoming amongst the biggest, brightest, stars I have ever seen.
Moments after arriving, Nora was there to greet us and show us where to park. The cottage itself, is awesome! Very clean and well maintained. Nora has fresh flowers and tropical greenery put out all over the cottage. The beds are comfortable, especially the couch in the lanai, which i found to be the best spot to relax and read my book or listen to the chorus of the Coqui frogs. The property is so well kept and huge! My 9 year old son had a blast discovering all of the fruit trees ( lime, orange, avocado) and trying to catch geckoes. The beach across the street is so magical and beautiful ( it's not a swimming beach) but the perfect place to go and feel the energy and cool spray from the big waves that crash upon the lava rock walls, where you can sit in the hot sunshine surrounded by lush green and palms. Nora is a kind and gracious host, she is very generous in sharing her beautiful property and vast local knowledge. We appreciated her presence but obvious respect for our privacy as well, Mahalo Nora!! Look forward to coming back.

We absolutely love staying at Palm Cottage!!!! This our 3rd stay there and each time we've come back we stay longer than the previous trip. Nora and Mike are tremendous hosts. The natural beauty of the property, the peace and quiet, and of course the great hosts make this the perfect place for us to stay. Its been four days since we left and I am all ready looking forward to our next trip to Palm Cottage.
Me and my family stayed at Palm Cottage 3 nights. This trip was our first trip to Hawaii and we're so glad to stay at this amazing and beautiful cottage. Everything is perfect and detail oriented.
Fruits are so tasty in there. All furniture and bedding are really cute and comfortable. Beautiful nature all around. I really appreciate all experience I had in this place with my family.
Nora is amazing too. Whenever I contacted with her, she reply quickly and kindly. When I met her, She told us different beautiful spots in big island.
We would love to go back and stay longer next time!!!

Traveling keeps me young. I love seeing new places and meeting new people. I enjoy having the cottages because I meet wonderful guests from around the world all year long. I've lived in Hawaii for 40 years and can show you my favorite places on the map for an insider's look at the Big Island. Safe and happy travels to you.
