+we have an independent and charming house cat named boots who comes and goes from the house as he pleases. he was living under the village horse barn without a home , and we adopted him. he spends most of his time outside-but enjoys to meet the guests, cuddle, and purr. we do ask our guests to add food to his bowl twice a day and water when low.
if you don't like a cat around-then this house is unfortunately not a match. our outhouses do not have a cats in them-and can be rented independently. please feel free to ask any questions about boots!

Where you’ll be

Gylsboda, Skåne län, Sweden

Gylsboda is a small village of approx. 50 people at the northern border of Sweden's Skåne region. It was established as a Diabase mining village with hundreds more inhabitants in its heyday. While a quarry still exists the village has shrunk to its current quiet size. You can still see the distinctive black rock forming the foundations, stairways, and stonewalls, of many of the community's homes.

Gylsboda was the childhood village of the Nobel prize-winning author, Harry Martinson. Now it is home to a number of local artists who produce paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewelry, and literature. Local works can be found at the Glysboda Sliperiet, our community arts center.

There are at least 5 lakes within walking distance of the home. The closest one is great for swimming and paddling. Other outdoor activities include hiking, running, mountain biking, and foraging in the forest where wild food abounds.

Our regional hub is Lonsboda, approx. 5 km away, which has an organic farm store, two grocery stores, a few cafes, two great loppis (second hand stores), a yoga studio, and a fitness center.

Further afield you can visit Svarta Bergen (museum and sculpture park), Nyteboda Skov (an ancient forest), Lake Immeln (canoeing to 200 islands), Loshult Handelsbod (Swedish fika and the best baked bread and cardamon rolls), Almhult-home of IKEA (and a floating sauna), Linnes Rashult (delicious vegetarian lunch buffet), Wanas Konst (sculpture park and gallery), and other Skåne highlights.

I work for a Canadian software company. I've lived in Copenhagen for 5+years with my partner Martin. We've spent two years restoring an early 1900's quarry master's house.

Before this I lived in Newfoundland, New Hampshire, California, Oregon, and British Columbia. I love Copenhagen for its culture, cycling, and urban design.

We spend most of our free time in the village in Sweden where we garden, renovate, and swim.

I love to travel-and hosting travellers from around the world.
