The Rio de Janeiro is the main tourist destination in Latin America, with its tropical climate, landscapes and cultural icon known worldwide. The exuberant nature Rio includes 90 km of beaches, the Tijuca National Park, home to one of the largest urban forests in the world with 3200 hectares of Atlantic Forest and the beautiful LagoaRodrigo de Freitas, among other wonders, like the Christ Redeemer and enjoy the look of the Sugar Loaf.
Bohemian neighborhood with various entertainment, such as the Municipal Theatre, the National Library building also has several museums including the National Museum of Fine Arts and the National History Museum.
Sure, Copacabana was big in the sixties. IN THE SIXTIES. If you're looking for an authentic experience of Rio, though, you may want to consider a more diverse, culturally vibrant part of the city.
Lapa, home to samba musicians, capoeira players, and other marginals and bohemians, has been referred to as the "South American Montmartre". Nowadays, it still carries the soul of Rio in streets filled with music and the most interesting characters.
Located between the historical center of Rio and the heart of Lapa, my studio is a short walk from both the well known bars and music venues, such as Rio Scenarium, Carioca da Gema, Democráticos, and Circo Voador, and from 19th-century beauties such as the Municipal Theater and the National Library..
My studio is inside a residential building and on a street that's safe. Public transportation is very easily accessible from here: for R$ 2,75, you can take a bus to the South Zone and be at the beach in 20 minutes. For R$ 30,00, you can take a cab and be there in less than that. You can also walk for 10 minutes to nearest subway station, Cinelândia and Glória.
Come stay where the locals live, in a studio that's lived i.

We stayed at the apartment for a week, including carnaval weekend. It's located very close to the bottom of the Escadaria Selarón - the famous Lapa steps. Whilst the are was pretty raucous on the Friday night, it was suprisingly quiet for the remainder of our stay.
Due to the wealth of things to do during our stay (true even outside of carnaval time) we didn't spend a great deal of time in the apartment but it served us well.
You're a 5 minute walk from the Lapa arches in one direction, and 5 minutes from Gloria metro subway station in the other.
Whilst I did not meet Márcio, he provided all the necessary information prior to check in and made sure everything was ok during our stay.
The apartment was great! Everything was as pictured and dCan't beat the location, in the heart of Lapa within walking distance to everything but not next door to all the bars and street noise. Marcio was extremely nice, flexible, and helpful with everything we needed.
Marcio - excellent hoster. The apartment is great, clean and cool design. Lived three weeks during the 2014 World Cup, Marcio prepared so flat that we had no questions for him during the entire stay.
Residents and house staff are very friendly and always willing to help.
Near the house a lot of cafes, shops products. 5 minutes to the metro station. 2 minutes to Escadaria Selarón, 5 minute to Lapa Arches.
Thanks for a great apartment Marcio!
Marcio was a great host. His apartment is clean, easy to access, and in a great location. He was very considerate, funny, and kind. It was a pleasure to stay in his place and to meet him!
Stayed in Marcio's apartment for three weeks including Carnaval.
Marcio was a great host. Helped me get settled in, made sure I had all the info I needed and even walked around with me for several hours helping me find a chip for my iPhone… would have taken me a whole day, easily, on my own.
The place is located literally 75 meters from Escadaria Selaron and right in the heart of Lapa. Now depending on what kind of holiday you are looking for this is good or bad. Walk out the door and you are 5 minutes from the bars and restaurants of Lapa and of it's nightlife… especially on weekends it gets quite busy. Surprisingly quiet in view of the fact that the hustle and bustle is a few hundred meters away. Only problem was that darn dog barking across the street on a regular basis. But dogs are everywhere in Rio. I just had ear plugs and used them when necessary (carnaval is a noisy time no matter where you are)
The place is plenty fine for 2 people, four would be crowded. It was clean, though spartan. The bathroom is plenty big with a big shower. The kitchen is very small, but totally fine for prepping breakfast. Would be hard to cook a full meal unless you were accustomed to such a kitchen.
Bed was comfortable (and a decent bed is central to a good holiday for me) and I slept great. no air con but a good fan over the bed. Goon wifi in the place, always worked.
If you are going to Rio know exactly what you want in accommodation. If you stay somewhere central with easy access to the city, metro, etc… it will be nosier… if you want quiet, you'll probably need to get a cab to and from your accom…. or plan to walk a lot (not fun at 4am after partying)
marcio was helpful and unobtrusive but there if and when you needed him.
The apartment was excellent. Spacious, and located in a lovely and lively neighborhood. Marcio was a very helpful and accomodating host. I can thoroughly
Márcio's studio is a great place if you want to see Rio without paying the ridiculous prices you'll normally need to stay elsewhere. Lapa is a great area, with loads going on (though it can be a little noisy in the flat) and Márcio's studio is a great base, right in the middle of things, with the subway just a five minute walk away. The place is really secure, with friendly doormen working around the clock. The only downside is the tiny kitchen, which makes cooking a fairly unappealing prospect. Otherwise I recommend this for anyone wanting to see Rio on a budget.
