  • Beautiful experience here in the lotus private paradise. I have been staying a week in the first cute 2 floors bungalow, very comfortable in my cosy bedroom and also quite independent because of my own private lounge- kitchenette on ground floor. Lovely stuff have been looking after me with a 24 hours service, fresh breakfast and anything u possibly wish: taxi, scooter, tips for tours and fresh towels for the swimming pool! Yes, last but not least the beautiful private swimming pool with fresh water... Just perfect... Thank you I will be back soon!!!!;)

  • Hello from Malaysia!
We stayed here for 4 nights. We were really satisfied with the house. It's very clean, well kept, serene, and safe too at night. The staff were very helpful with our needs, and they sure made our stay a welcomed one.
Location wise, this place is very peaceful, but a bit far from everything. But it's okay if you hire a driver which is not that costly. When we booked this place, we were under the impression that there would be paddy field view from our window. However, this was not the case.

Keep up the good work. Thank you!

  • My family and I stayed at the Sanctuary for one week and didn't want to leave. It was so relaxing and scenic. We have only good things to say. The staff was amazing they treated us great. The breakfast options were very good too. We loved being able to hop in the pool daily. The place was perfect for us we could walk into the busier parts within 20 mins or hire a driver for a few dollars. We really enjoyed the walks from their place. We can't wait to come back again!

  • It was a really lovely stay there. The staff and David and Brenda are very nice. If I needed help or if I had questions, everybody was there for me and helped me! The breakfast is really tasty and the house is clean, lovely and relaxing. All in all it was a really great time for me there and I would recommend the guesthouse at all!
    Thanks to everyone there!

  • Such a pleasure to stay at The Sanctuary! The staff took care of us in all aspects with love and care. Ubud is a magical place and the location was ideal! just a little a bit away from the centre of Ubud was exactly what we needed for peace and quiet.

    Thank you again!

  • When I first arrived, I was a stressed out city slicker so the place took some getting use to (I wasn't expecting the Hilton but I think I was a little unprepared for how rustic the lumbung actually was). After the second day though, I was completely won over. The off-the-beaten track location of Desa Sanctuary is unmatched and I fell in love with the cosy, cabin-like enclosure of the elevated bedroom, the outdoor living room and its proximity to the pool (not noisy at all despite being beside the entrance). Not too many mosquitos but all the same, it wouldn't hurt to have some bug spray or mosquito repellent patches with you.

Over the course of 8 days, I was treated to consistently delicious breakfasts (the banana pancakes with fruit salad were by far the best!) by the smiley staff who were attentive without being intrusive. I wouldn't call the property itself 'luxurious' but the wonderful staff and peaceful setting made it a 5-star experience! As stated in previous reviews, the sanctuary was a bit of a walk to the main areas of Ubud but daily transport was easily organised whether it was a motorbike driven by a member of the staff (I went to the Yoga Barn everyday riding pillion) or a car if I was venturing off to a more off-grid location like Gunung Kawi. If you are into exploring the area and are adept at handling a motorbike (I wasn't), hiring one for the length of your stay is definitely recommended. Otherwise, staying put and ordering in cheap, delicious meals is always a wonderful idea. The unique village-like ambience also makes it easy to get to know other guests although if you wanted to keep to yourself, you can comfortably retreat into your own space. The houses are quite close together but it didn't feel any less private. The neighbours next to the property were a little noisy at times but this was likely due to the fact that I chose to stay over during Nyepi and there were daily celebrations happening at the time. All and all, an amazing stay that didn't break the bank. I will definitely return :)

David, my husband was a set designer and furniture designer for the movie industry in Los Angeles for thirty years and worked with the tops in the industry....Steven Spielberg, Jodie Foster, Robert Redford, Bruce Springsteen and many more. His built the Captains Chair for Star Trek Insurrection and had the most "ordered" bed in TV history from the TV hit, "Mad about You". He designed furniture for many top Restaurants in Los Angeles from the Saddle Peak Lodge in Malibu to Malibu Adobe with Ali McGraw. His resume is extensive and his client list is long....Billy Crystal, David Hasselhof, Arnold Schwarzanegger to Keenan Wayans. He has translated that skill into building ten amazingly different houses since he's come to Bali. Our house is amazing and you will see why he is so in demand! I have a variety of interests that keep me busy. I was a hairdresser for 30 years in the US and clients still find me, even in Bali. I love doing hair and spending quality time with people. I have spent years doing spiritual growth work and now work with others with addiction and codependency issues and also do Money Coaching. I love this work and the chance to give back what I was taught. I've been an artist my whole life so our home is filled with original art ( mine and others) and I have an awesome studio..Anyone that loves to paint will fall in love here. My latest passion is teaching Zumba, What a blast! As you can see, we are both loving our life and filling the hours manifesting our dreams. We both are creative artists and love to explore the world and the people in it. Since we've been in Bali we've been taking in South East Asia. We love Vietnam, and Thailand for their amazing cuisine. We are frequently traveling, so we are sorry that we don't get to meet all our guests, but we leave you in the hands of an amazing staff and manager, Sakming, who will be your contact person.
