About This Listing
Alejandro and I look forward to welcoming you to our newly renovated 130 year-old house in a lovely, peaceful and historical area of Edinburgh.
The room is warm and quiet, with a small wardrobe, desk, and two comfortable chairs. It includes a private bathroom, with a great shower and underfloor heating. We provide towels and bed-linen, and free use of our Wifi. There is a TV in the room with a built-in DVD player, so feel free to bring along some of your favourite films, or borrow one of ours.
If you are a group or family travelling together, you can rent out our twin room as well (see our other listing). It contains two very comfortable fold-down beds with excellent mattresses - suitable for both adults and children (not toddlers, sorry).
If you wish to rent out both rooms, please get in touch and we can let you know what the exact cost will be.
We offer a simple, self-serve breakfast (tea/ coffee, juice, cereal, toast) and you are welcome to use the kitchen at any time of day. We provide a key for your room(s) and the front door so you can come and go as you please.
Interaction with Guests
We like our guests to feel relaxed and comfortable in our house, so whilst we like to get to know people, we also respect their privacy.
With guests who like to chat, we have had some long and lovely conversations around the kitchen table. We have made some good friends through hosting, and hope to make many more, but totally understand that some people like to keep their own company.
We live on the ground floor of a "Colonies" house, a style unique to Edinburgh. We have an ever-developing garden with a sheltered patio, which is great when the sun shines (which it does here more than people think!), and are right next to a tree-lined pathway, so we get a sense of being in the countryside even though we are in the city centre (see Street View for a photo). Our guests often comment on how quiet and peaceful it is, despite being so near the city centre.
Our favourite parts of the neighbourhood are the streets where we live, the big park 2 minutes walk from the house, and the canal, on which there are houseboats, barge cafes, swans, ducks, joggers, cyclists and lots of other wildlife!
There are two well-stocked local stores a couple of minutes walk away where you can get most provisions you will need for your stay. You can also enjoy beers and wines from all over the world, as well as great food and a friendly local atmosphere at one of Edinburgh's top ten pubs only 10 minutes walk away. There are also Chinese and Indian restaurants within 10 minutes walk, with many more 15-20 minutes away (or 5 minutes by bus).
We are on a direct bus route from the airport and the two stations. The nearest bus stops to the city centre are about 7 minutes walk away, and it's about a 10-15 minute bus ride into town depending on the time of day. There are between 10 and 20 buses per hour into the city centre.
Alternatively you can stroll along the lovely canal tow-path and watch the barges, swans, ducks, cormorants, etc. float on by.
We don't really set any rules as we like to believe that most people are respectful and honest. However, we hope that people who come and visit us will tell us when there is anything wrong so we can fix it and we will do the same with them.
Alejandro & Harriet are kind and lovely. You'll be able to see how Harriet is maintaining her beautiful garden and how Alejandro is cooking Cuban foods while you are staying here.
My room was spacious and clean. I recommend this Almondbank Terrace to all the visitors of Edinburgh. Easy access to both the city center and the airport.
This is the best B&B I ever experienced for 3 weeks in Europe. Both Alejandro and Harriet are very friendly and welcoming, especially Alejandro who really humour and we have laughter together. The room is very clean and comfortable, feels like staying at home. The location is convenient for foods (Hong Kong style food - Good Taste , at the bus stop) and groceries. Quite and relaxing when you need rest. Easy access to city centre by buses.
Edinburgh is the city where we met best host, English Gentlemans, clean, fresh air, scenic, mixture in old and new town. Love it.
For anyone looking to visit Edinburgh, definitely must choose Alejandro and Harriet.
Alejandro and Harriet were perfect. Everything was like they wrote, the room is very comfy and cozy. Neighborhood is beautiful and calm. We can only recommend to everyone!
Alejandro and Harriet were very friendly hosts. They are very discrete people, and since we were out in the city most of the time, we didn't really have the chance to sit down and have a longer conversation. But we always enjoyed the brief chat in the kitchen! The room & entire flat is great. They were very considerate to provide us with slippers too. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
The place is very quite and clean. We really love this place. The location is good. We can get in centre town very quickly.

About the Host, Alejandro & Harriet
We are a Cuban/British couple living in a lovely Edinburgh "Colonies" style house (we'll explain when you get here if you want to know more!) that we renovated a few years ago.
We speak Spanish, English and French, and welcome people from all over the world. Harriet works in the voluntary sector and Alejandro in front of house at theatres and venues around Edinburgh. Alejandro is a great Cuban dancer (you may get an impromptu dance lesson if you play your cards right) and Harriet enjoys walking, mindful meditation, T'ai Chi, gardening, socialising and, of course, dancing.
We go to Cuba as often as we can to visit Alejandro's wonderful friends and family in Santiago de Cuba - the epicentre of Cuban music and dance. We also like to try and visit other areas of the UK and Europe as Alejandro is really interested in the history and culture.
We like our guests to feel relaxed and comfortable in our house, so whilst we like to get to know people and allow them full use of the house during their stay, we also respect their privacy. We have made some good friends through hosting, and hope to make many more.
We also manage the bookings for the "Casa Particular" of our lovely niece, Adis, and her husband Alberto in Santiago de Cuba. Before managing the Casa Particular, Adis worked in the cultural sector and loves theatre and cinema. Alberto is an accountant at the Cuba Electrical Company and is seriously into soccer - particularly Barcelona.
A lovely way to get into town - stroll across the park and along the canal - takes about 25 minutesEdinburgh City of Edinburgh
