Get a great night's sleep in my large double room. Real Victorian brass bed is accessible on both sides. 26" TV and mattress are modern! Early check-in / late check-out. Sociable hosts -tea/coffee on arrival & breakfast with home made bread included!
My character cottage home was built around 1800 and has exposed beams and brickwork throughout. Character does not compromise comfort with gas central heating, fully equipped kitchen, upstairs bathroom and second downstairs toilet.
The bedroom is quite large and the double bed is easily accessible from both sides. There is plenty of storage space for bags under the high Victorian brass bed. Wardrobe hanging space and drawer space is available for your use. Freshly washed bedding and towels are always provided - as is a towel rail to let them dry. The TV in the room is 26" widescreen and the WiFi works well in the room. Plenty of plug sockets for your gadgets too.
The bathroom (bath with shower over) is next to the bedrooms and additional downstairs toilet means no queuing!.
You are welcome to use the well equipped kitchen with fridge and cupboard space available for your food. The dishwasher deals with most washing-up and the washing machine is available if you need to do laundry.
The shared dining / sitting room is a very social space. The private garden has seating and a sunny aspect for much of the day. Your own safe off road parking space is provided right next to the front door and you will not normally need to move your car for any reason. Cycles can be stored in my secure garage.
Tea and coffee are provided as is a 'help-yourself' breakfast - home made bread for toast / muesli / fruit juice / yoghurt and fruit. Or treat yourself to a 'Full English' at Fagin's pub restaurant just one mile up the road!.
Accommodation is gay friendly.
Bathroom, downstairs toilet, kitchen, sitting room, garden - essentially the house and its facilities excepting other bedrooms and private facilities such as my desktop pc.
Interaction with Guests
This is my own home so I'll normally be around during your stay. Happy to get to know you over a coffee or allow you your own privacy - as you prefer! We're keen Airbnb'ers ourselves so try to provide the facilities and welcome we would like to receive ourselves.
Regarding languages, I can speak some very basic French but boyfriend Rob (who is usually around) speaks good French and Spanish plus a bit of German.
Easy to find yet with a rural feel convenient to city amenities. Great base for the Cotswolds (near the Cotswold Way) and Severn Vale, also easy access to Gloucester centre, Cheltenham, Stroud and Stonehouse with plenty of opportunities for walking / cycling / mountainbiking - which is why I enjoy being here! Top recommendation is a great evening walk direct from the door up Robinswood Hill opposite the house!
The 63 Stagecoach bus between Stroud and Gloucester stops about 50m from the house - ask for Whaddon bus stop.
Bus number 9 from Gloucester bus station stops at Robert Raikes avenue which is 1/2 mile walk away but this service runs from 6AM to midnight every day.
I may sometimes be able to collect you from Gloucester or Stroud rail or bus stations ... if you are on your own and only have a small amount of luggage - I have a tiny two seat Smart car!! Likewise, happy to collect / return you to the Cotswold Way at Edge if you are walking.
No smoking in the house.
No frying in kitchen.
Quiet please between 11pm and 7am - not a curfew! just a request to come and go quietly outside these times.
I had a lovely, restful time at Mark's place. He and his partner were warm and hospitable. Everything was comfortable and Mark was very eligible with directions etc. highly recommend.
Mark made us feel very welcome. He took the time to show us the house and to give us some advice for the area. It's a beautiful house, very authentic. Highly recommended!

Was een prima stek om te verblijven en de eigenaars waren erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam.
My host Mark was wonderful, he asked me to call when I arrived at the Gloucester bus station. He was unable to meet me but he told me exactly how to get to his charming cottage in the countryside and had made arrangements for me get a set of keys. The bus dropped me right across from his place and he had left stuff out for me to to make some coffee or tea, so I made some tea and browsed his antique collections in his living room and read some. Anyway, my point is that he made sure that I was comfortable. I met him and his partner Robert later and we had some interesting chats about all sorts of things, and then Rob gave me a ride to the docks, so I can grab dinner before the end of the night and he gave me directions on taking a local bus home, because most buses out of town stop around 7pm. There is a half a mile stretch of the road that is not lit at night, so while it made me nervous walking back home at 11:30pm, all was worked out fine. They were super nice, gave me lots advice and options on how to get around to see the Cotswolds, where to catch the best bucolic views, best places to eat etc. Mark went out of his way to get me gluten free bread for breakfast, and it was much appreciated! Mark's home is cosy and I was made to feel very welcome! Mark & Robert are lovely hosts, and I plan on returning for a longer stay!
We loved staying here. We felt so welcome and mark gave us great advice on a local hike. Very cute place to stay and clean as well. Would definitely recommend!
We spent 2 nights at Mark's place. His 18th century house is decorated with much elegance and taste and situated in a residential area close to Gloucester. It is both very safe and quite at night.
Mark was a very welcoming host who was happy to share his everyday life, so as to make us feel comfortable. He is both bright and open minded, and could tell us much about the history of the town, the region (and the country!). His place definitely serves as a good base to explore the Cotswalds. The breakfast we had was very good, and our room, whose window opened onto a blossoming rosebush, a delight.

About the Host, Mark
(on right) I'm early retired and my interests include cycling, mountainbiking, travel, walking, photography etc. and the odd night out on the gay scene! Rob (on left in photo) likes art, collecting and antiques.
We've used AirBnB around Europe on our travels and, as hosts, try to offer the kind of welcome we like to receive elsewhere. Particularly enjoy meeting interesting open-minded people who enjoy chatting over coffee although appreciate a late night is not what everyone wants after a long journey. So if you just want an early night, this is the place for you too.
