Spare double bedroom in a humble cottage in Rosthwaite. Use of own modern shower room. I'm not set up to cater so although I can provide milk, tea coffee you'll need to source your own breakfast. Although there is no TV I have a large lounge where you may relax & read. Wifi also available.
Ideal location in the heart of The Lake District. Hotels & pub in the village available for meals and small shop with basic groceries.
Strictly NON SMOKING
From sailing on Derwentwater , through hiking to Scafell Pike to cragging on the cliffs of Borrowdale this area is: Quite simply, “The Adventure Capital of the North”
Cottage is just outside what AW Wainwright described as “The most beautiful square mile in the whole of Lakeland”
Good transport connections by bus.
There are few alternatives that provide a cosy comfortable dry nights accommodation in beautiful Borrowdale at anything near this price!
I find it difficult to accept bookings more than a month in advance as my own plans are often fairly fluid - please try to delay requests until no more than 30 days before hand
There are two bathrooms and two sitting rooms - so it's easy to provide an exclusive shower room & wc, and a lounge with TV & ipod dock when I'm not at home - as I usually let my rooms when I'm working guests have much freedom.
In the kitchen there's free use of kettle, microwave and hob for making Breakfast & Light Snacks. I'm not offering self catering so I do encourage my guests to dine out
Interaction with Guests
Usually very little as mostly I'm at work in the small hotel opposite. So I'm around if you need help or advice but also out of your way. If I'm on the bar that evening you are welcome to join me for a drink and share your adventures.
The Lake District - on a good day - the most beautiful place in the world!
Lakes, Mountains, Woods, Wildlife
Quaint villages and small hill farms with easy access to the buzz of Keswick - the tourist hub of The Northern Lakes - shops, cinema, theatre
During the summer there is a half hourly bus service from Keswick along our beautiful valley and twice daily links over Honister Pass to Buttermere.
Hourly buses connect Keswick to the mainline train station at Penrith.
Other Things to Note
If I'm not at work ; as I've recently "Come Out" as Trans* you may bump into my alto-ego - Nuala....who tries very hard to be both attractive and unremarkable - she's harmless anyway.
I don't like making rules but as I'm often at work early in the morning and the boiler is timed to go off by 11.30... this seems to be a sensible time to expect guests to retire by.
We had a wonderful time at the Lake District!! Nuala was a lovely host, very friendly and made us feel very welcome! She was working most of the weekend we stayed (but we were out most of the day anyways) but fortunately works across the road - so it is very easy to reach her if need be. The room (and cottage) is very cosy and you also have your own very clean private bathroom. Nuala's place is in a very good location in the Lake District too! Would definitely recommend Nuala's place! :)
The room is quite nice and comfortable, and it is amazing to expertise the country life in the Lake District, sleeping without locking the front door.
Nuala is very friendly, I will come back again.
Host was welcoming, aproachable and interesting. Pleasant bedroom, really comfortable bed and excellent shower.
Beautiful spot ideal for walking and for events in Keswick. Helpful recommendations where to eat.
Nuala's cottage is really lovely, pretty, warm and comfortable. Nuala herself is very friendly and accomodating and although she was working early in the morning she came back home to see that we were ok and could find what we needed. She was helpful in suggesting walks, lent us maps. Fortunately we live close enough to visit her and her lovely cottage again. Thanks Nuala. See you again soon.
Nuala was a brilliant host, and the cottage is beautiful. She gave us the perfect balance of privacy and interaction, sharing stories and local advice when we wanted and then giving us the freedom to relax in her home and explore stunning Borrowdale ourselves. The location is picture perfect, I can't recommend Nuala and her cottage highly enough :)
Nuala is a fantastic host who made us feel very comfortable and has a great wealth of knowledge of climbing and walking in the Lakes and around the world. She just lets you get on with things and staying here was one of the most relaxing weekends ever. The cottage is beautiful and has been very sympathetically restored keeping lots of original features so you really do get a sense of staying in a true Lake District cottage. Spacious and comfortable room and an excellent shower room just across the landing. The cottage is right in the heart of Borrowdale so there are hundreds of walks from the front door from high mountain climbs to easy riverside strolls. Good pub across the road for food and beer. Definitely recommended.
I spent two days with my daughter at Neils Cottage and we enjoyed the time very much. It ist just in the heart of Lake District and an excellent starting point for walking tour through the impressing nature. Neil ist a very friendly host and his accomodation was very clean and comfortable.

Along side my mountains and work I'm now studying again with the OU and I suppose have become something of a TG activist at a local level. I'm happy to answer any questions if you need to be convinced that I should be treated any differently than before - you'll still find the same happy and enthusiastic wilderness lover nestled like a Russian doll deep inside.
