Description

The space

This area is just several minutes outside the town of Paquera but both howler and white faced monkeys frequent the property. Over 150 different species of birds including parrots, hummingbirds and cuckoos visit regularly. This new 3 bedroom features an open floor plan with living room, dinette and kitchen all flowing together. A spacious circular patio with a fire pit under the mango tree provides the perfect spot to kick back after a great day at the beach or Los Delfines golf course.

Guest access

The front yard doubles as a spacious car park large enough for two of the even the biggest vehicles.

Interaction with guests

A few houses down, our neighbors Henry and Hilda are available to help with any questions you may have about the area. Henry teaches at the college and his English is quite good. Maid service is available at a reasonable rate of $3 an hour and Henry can arrange that for you.

The neighborhood

This area is still quite quaint and not really changed by the development in other regions of the country. We are in a rural setting but town is just two minutes away! There are a number of beaches with a 10 to 30 minute drive. An absolute must is the night kayak tours to see the plankton bio luminescene in the Playa organos area.Whether it is a more quiet beach or a busier beach with more tourists and shops, you can choose.

Getting around

It helps to rent an SUV but there are a lot of 'taxistas' in town and the rates are very reasonable. Henry will can call them for you and give you a card. The closet airport is Liberia and then a 90 mile drive down the Nicoya peninsula to Paquera. Many quests rent a vehicle in Liberia and return it as they head back to the airport.

Other things to note

The best restaurant is in the Hotel Ginana. Try the 'casados'. A ton of food! Also 'Las Vegas' is a typical rancho style restaurant with the best seafood in town. Curu Wildlife Reserve, Isla Tortuga, and Playa Organos are great local gems. Check out the restaurant in Pochote where the river meets the Pacific for some amazing shrimp.

House Rules

We are in a quiet area and its nice to keep it down after midnight.

The place was great for a peaceful vacation. It's near to restaurants, grocery and some activities in the area. The house is clean and has air conditioning.

Nice cozy little spot in the town of Paquera, bout 30-45 mins from Montezuma and Santa Teresa where the main hang out and nightlife spots are. There a couple nice little beaches close as well (Playa Organos) and is about 15 mins from the Ferry to head over to the San Jose side of the country. All in all great lil place to stay and great price. Thanks!

Thank you very much for your hospitality Mike! We're so happy we stayed in Paquera and got to explore the Nicoya Peninsula. Exactly what we wanted our vacation to be like! Hope to come back someday. In particular we loved: -Seeing monkeys coatis, agoutis, and a beautiful view of the ocean at Curu (hike Avispero if you're up for a crazy climb!) -Swimming in the warm calm bay at Tambor -Eating most of our meals at Hotel Ginana and getting a pizza at the pizza place (groceries are quite expensive) -The bio-luminescence kayak tour at Bahia Rica (so crazy cool and peaceful) -Coming back each evening to relax in a place that felt like home!

Michael's place is spacious, clean and the kitchen is stocked with everything you may need. The shower is good with warm to hot water.....not always found in Costa Rica. The bed was also comfortable. The house is close to Paquera for shopping and to the Curu Wildlife refuge. On the beach at Curu, you will encounter many animals who are accustom to humans - raccoons, capuchin monkeys, iguanas, deer, coatis. You mights also see howler monkeys and possibly crocodiles (crocodiles are not at the beach) At Curu, we took the boat to Isla Tortuga and snorkeled amongst thousands of schooling fish. Michael gave us good information about this park as well as town restaurants, grocery stores and the ferry schedule. Michael is polite, friendly and a very good host!

We really enjoyed our stay in Michael's Paquera home. The house was simply lovely and had all the amenities we needed. We loved sitting in the backyard to enjoy the flowers and butterflies as well as the incredible sounds of nature surrounding us. We absolutely loved Paquera, it is a charming little town close to the Curu Wildlife Reserve and Bahia Rica where you can enjoy bio-luminescent night kayaking (highly, highly recommended.) This house and area were one of our favorites of this trip and we would absolutely stay here again. Nena was amazing and super helpful despite our (super embarrassing) minimal Spanish skills. Thank you Michael!

I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada but I love to spend time in this wonderful part of Costa Rica. My daughter, son in law, and grandson live in the capital, San Jose, so Costa Rica really has become my second home. If you get a chance, please come down and enjoy the house, the area, and the great people of Costa Rica!
