The Yellow Jacket Yurt provides quiet and cozy rustic comfort in a ponderosa pine forested area. Located on the Vance family ranch this secluded property is surrounded by the San Juan National Forest and is within reasonable driving distance to Durango, Pagosa Springs, Purgatory and Wolf Creek ski areas, hot springs, and Chimney Rock National Monument. Enjoy hiking, skiing, snowshoeing. There is no WiFi or cell service. We will provide access to the main house WiFi and landline for emergencies.

The space
Traditional Mongolian style yurt . One standard door, one French door, two sliding glass windows and a circular ceiling skylight with vent all provide wonderful light and ambience.
One queen size bed and one full size sofa sleeper provides comfortable sleeping for 4 guests. Limited electrical service, for lights and low voltage accessories, accommodates a Cpap.
2 burner propane stove, wash tub and outhouse. No in-door plumbing, but we supply plenty of water.
Access is one mile off the highway to the main ranch house (all wheel/front wheel drive with snow tires recommended during winter) then a short walk in summer or ski/snowshoe in winter conditions. Yurt is vehicle accessible in summer/fall.

Where you’ll be

Bayfield, Colorado, United States

Our sister is our only neighbor 1/4 mile from the main house, the yurt sits on a hill, nested within the pine trees and you cannot see either house from the yurt nor can we see the yurt from our houses. Beautiful scenery includes occasional sightings of local wildlife such as turkeys, deer, elk, coyotes, bears and mountain lions. Bayfield is a quick 13 mile drive.

We live on a 360 acre family ranch surrounded by the foothills of the San Juan National Forest. Ranch life keeps us busy! During the summer we pasture horses, put up hay, fix fence and garden, in the winter we like to ski and spend a lot time plowing and shoveling snow. My husband and I have been together 30+ years, we are raising our 2nd family together and are still very much in love and having fun!
