About this listing
Good sized room with queen size bed.
Linen is also supplied.
There are two friendly kittens that live here and a super friendly dog called Jimmy. Also have another dog who is slightly taller than a Corgi called Ziggy, she will bark when you arrive. There are also four chooks. Providing that they are laying, you’ll have fresh eggs for breakfast if you want!
We are located close to mountains for tramping and also beaches - 30 minutes drive away. There are several vineyards in the area which are certainly well worth a visit. Life here is definitely relaxed!
I would also be happy to provide evening meals upon request at an additional cost.
Ongaonga is 16k’s west of Waipukurau and is a historic village in Central Hawkes Bay. Waipukurau is a busy rural township with a range of local shops, places to eat, a cinema and good coffee as well! Buses stop in Waipukurau if that is your mode of transport and I would be happy to pick you up.
Interaction with Guests
Happy to have cup of tea and a chat if that's what you'd like.
The peace and quiet is just lovely.
Smoking is only outside, and if you use the kitchen just tidy up after yourself.
Stephanie, Andrew and their family pets (Ziggy, Jimmy and Maxine) made me feel very welcome. Their home is a lovely country cottage and has a truly relaxed, comfortable feel which is down to the wonderful hosts - thank you Andrew for cooking a yummy Mother's Day breakfast for me. You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay here in the beautiful historic village of Ongaonga!
Stephanie was very welcoming and made us feel at home immediately. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, from the supremely comfortable bed and fantastic shower but the icing on the cake was the delicious homemade dinner and great conversation. Also the feline and canine friends we made. Wish it had been longer.
Andrew and Stephanie were very warm and welcoming and greeted me on a balmy summer’s evening with a nip of whiskey. A stay in their historical and charming character cottage was very nice with an extremely comfortable bed and great water pressure in the shower. Both Andrew and Stephanie are great conversationalists and it was lovely to sit around the table yarning to Andrew while enjoying a glass of wine and Andrew’s outstanding gourmet rabbit risotto with the rabbit sourced from an unusual place. A very relaxing and enjoyable stay, enhanced by two playful kittens and two active canines.
Without arrival and departure we stayed only one day at their place. But at the end we wished we had stayed longer. Stephanie and Andrew were lovely hosts who made us feel very welcome.
Andrew go showed us a nice place to go fly-fishing and we spend the whole evenings to chat with them.
We would love to come back and spend more time with them!
Definately recommendable :-)
Host entrusted their home to me whilst they were away for a few days. Andrew was a fly fisherman, so his help and recommendations were much appreciated. Enjoyed my stay immensely.
Awesome place away from it all but not too far with a night sky you'll never see in the city. Bed was the most comfortable thing I've slept on. Stephanie was an awesome host ( and cook) and Jimmy was the friendliest dog. Hope to be back!
