King suite, quiet lake, pool, wifi

House - Private room · Catlin Drive, Tampa, FL 33647, United States

The Space

This huge suite takes up the whole upstairs floor of a large quiet house. It is about 400 sq. ft, light, with cathedral ceiling, king-size bed, a couch that turns into a double-bed futon, desk, fridge and an newly renovated en-suite bathroom (tub and shower). It has its built-in own air-conditioning system, wifi and plug in internet too.

Guests have access to a guest lounge, dining room and large patio (lanai) next to a peaceful lake, with pool, overlooking a nature conservation area with many wild birds, and occasional deer.

Full breakfast, tea and coffee is always available, and the wifi is fast and highly reliable. There is extended cable, including many sports channels and HBO. The TV set is new and has BBC World, HBO etc.

A second, queen suite is available for larger groups.

There is a well-equipped laundry room with washer and dryer, washing powder etc.

Our medical guests often have special needs and we accommodate these happily.

The house is in pristine condition and the area is quiet. There are restaurants, a coffee bar, pharmacy, post office etc and other stores with easy walking distance, and there is a bus close by, but one really needs a car in Tampa Bay. Public transit is not great. There are several malls "close by" in Tampa Bay terms - i.e. a 10 - 15 minute drive.

We believe that this accommodation is best suited to adults, or older teens, and probably suits business, medical, academic, and international visitors, golfers, university parents, new students going to college etc.

The house is relatively close to USF and to many major medical centers like Moffitt and close to the I75-Bruce B Downs off-ramp.

Glynis and HIlton have met with the Lodging Committee at Moffitt and are trying to build more community connections between medical facilities and our diverse communities, to support American and International visitors to Tampa Bay.

We're also experts on Tampa Bay business (and international business) and are both deeply involved in volunteer economic development work. We have extensive experience of international visitors, and love to share our the region with them..

We train cultural fluency and soft landings for international trade, and have multiple contacts in the business worlds of the area. This knowledge can be useful to visitors and we share it freely.

Guest Access

King suite, kitchen, laundry, guest lounge, guest dining room, patio, swimming pool.

Interaction with Guests

Variable. We usually provide advice and material about where to go and what to see. We often chat with guests at length and enjoy their stories. In some cases, we assist with many things - banks, lawyers, hospitals, doctors, laundry, cooking etc. Different guests have different needs. Glynis has helped nursed medical guests, dressed and undressed them... or some guests have come and gone and we have hardly seen them.

The Neighborhood

Tampa Palms is amazing. People love the peace and green quietness, yet we are a few minutes from the Interstate. The history, ecology, entertainment and myriad "things to see and do" always catch people by surprise - there are weeks of activity here. We maintain a website of some things to do on Glynis (website hidden)e.

Getting around

Basically you want a car in Tampa Bay. Public transport is getting better but is not good.

Other Things to Note

We have things like beach umbrellas, a spare GPS, and hundreds of ways of connecting business, academic, medical people. Ask. (We can't read your mind.) We're problem solvers :)

Great people to talk to. Very spacious room, comfortable bed and nice bath with plenty of hot water. The breakfast was an unexpected surprise!

  • Once again, staying with the Munro's was a most comfortable and relaxed experience for us...we felt like good neighbors and family in the best sense of the word. Since we will have ongoing needs to return to Tampa, their home will be our place of first choice to stay. We look forward to it!

  • Hilton and Glynis Munro made us feel welcome from the time we began exploring the opportunity to stay with them, actually meeting them and staying in their lovely home for a week. We were in the midst of dealing with some serious health issues during our visit and they were kind, caring and flexible, making our stay as pleasant as possible. We are planning on returning soon!

About
Hilton and Glynis were born in South Africa, have traveled six continents, and love Tampa Bay. Hilton retired from law when we came to the US and helps Glynis with her training company. Our sons have grown up, and their suites are empty so we began by welcoming international students and found that we enjoyed this. We also hosted Moffitt patients and visitors after Glynis' father passed away from cancer. As directors of the Tampa Bay International Business Council, and the American International Business Council, we heard about Airbnb/Crashpadders from the Irish Chamber of Commerce. We saw a way to share local knowledge with visitors. We can help visitors to Tampa Bay to understand the regional business community and economy, and to make business contacts, and we are experts on how to enjoy Tampa Bay. We still host cancer patients with minimal immune challenges (and we clean things ourselves to meet the requirements). We hope to interest others in the International Community in opening their homes to international business people, and to those visiting medical and academic/educational centers in the region (Moffitt, CAMLs etc.)
