This sublet is located in charming, historical, and sometimes gritty Park Slope, what many people consider to be one of the most desirable neighborhoods in all of New York City, on 9th Street between 4th & 5th Avenue. In 2010 it was ranked #1 in New York by New York Magazine citing its quality schools, dining, nightlife, shopping, access to public transit, green space, quality housing, safety, and creative capital. It was named one of the "Greatest Neighborhoods in America" by the American Planning Association in 2007, "for its architectural and historical features and its diverse mix of residents and businesses, all of which are supported and preserved by its active and involved citizenry". In December 2006, Natural Home magazine named Park Slope one of America's ten best neighborhoods based on criteria including parks, green spaces and neighborhood gathering spaces; farmer’s markets and community gardens; public transportation and locally owned businesses; and environmental and social policy.
In 2009 I moved with my family to a rural area north of the city, and when I am not visiting or working in Brooklyn I rent out my apartment. I've kept the apartment furnished and equipped so that you have what you need for comfort and to live like a local. It is a sunny, one bedroom 3rd floor apartment in a quiet, 3-family brick building. It comes fully furnished, including a well equipped kitchen, 100% cotton bed linens, and bath towels. All you need is a change of clothes, toiletries, and personal items. The apartment has internet access, a/c, ceiling fan, and plenty of closet space. The small but cozy bedroom is at the rear of the apartment, ie: no street noise, and overlooks the lovely downstairs garden and three grazing urban chickens. A sleeper sofa in the common area (not a private space) can open to accommodate two more people. There is no charge for children 12 and under.
The apartment is 1/2 block from the M, R, and F trains, which bring you to lower Manhattan within 20 minutes, and central Manhattan in about 45 minutes. Walk up 9th Street 4-1/2 blocks and you’re in the 585-acre Prospect Park (Brooklyn's equivalent of Central Park), the huge Harmony Playground, and the renowned Bandshell for live, free performances all summer. Within one block of the apartment is a large well-stocked grocery store, several pharmacies and banks, and the post office. Continue down 5th Avenue and you’ll find dozens of highly regarded restaurants (like the famous Al Di La reviewed in the New York Times) as well as tons of ethnic places (Mexican, Indian, Moroccan, Thai, etc), boutiques, coffee shops (Ozzie's, Gorilla Coffee), patisseries (Blue Sky Bakery, Colson Patisserie), and bars. Up on 7th Avenue, you’ll find more of the same, plus larger stores like Barnes and Noble and Starbucks. This is truly a great location from which to access most of New York City's landmarks, features, and fun. Also, it borders Park Slope's historic, landmarked neighborhood, which provides charming local walks and explorations.
PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING: 1) a $200 REFUNDABLE deposit is required. This is to provide me with some insurance in case of breakage or theft; promptly returned when my apt is turned back to me in the same condition in which it was sublet. This deposit is a transaction which happens through Airbnb once a booking is made. 2) CLEANING FEE: There is a $60 cleaning fee for any reservation. This money goes directly to my wonderful cleaning lady, who ensures that you have clean bed and bath linens and a mop & scrub-sponge cleaned apartment. This transaction is made automatically through Airbnb when you book the apartment. Don't forget to check the "House Rules" as well please. Thank you!
The subway is conveniently located right on the corner, moments from the front door.
Please note: no smoking, no pets, no parties. Check in is after 4pm, check out by 11am (depending on availability, we can sometimes make other arrangements to suit your schedule). And finally, please, please, please BE QUIET walking around the apartment (particularly in shoes). Unfortunately noise travels much too easily, and the downstairs neighbors can hear every shoe-clad footstep. Thanks!
The appart is very well located in Brooklyn Park Slope.
The neighborhood is awsome !
The flat is big and very nice to live in !
The communication with Sandye was great. We could leave the luggage in a safe place after the check out to fully enjoy the end of the day before our flight.
I recommend the place.
Sandye was a perfect host. She provided lots of great information about the area and was prompt with all communication. Also, she was able to accommodate a slightly earlier check in which was greatly appreciated! The location is spectacular in regards to proximity to the subway as well as the neighborhood amenities. We are a family of 4 with two young girls (4, 5) so we spent time enjoying Harmony Playground and I had wonderful runs in the AM throughout Prospect Park. I would recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a place for a NYC vacation.
The 9th Street Sublet has plenty of room. It was better than a hotel because of the space. Plenty of restaurants are nearby. If you're hungry and feel like staying in, lots of the local restaurants deliver. The residents on the first floor are nice people too. The short walk to the subway is a big plus.
A great place to stay in in a fantastic neighbourhood. Near to everything you need. The apartement is lovely, well equipped and spacious. We strongly recommend this sublet.
C'est toujours un régal de rester à Brooklyn, surtout aussi proche du métro et des boutiques du quartier. Merci Sandye ! L'appartement est simple et idéal pour une petite famille comme la notre.

I sublet this apartment for my friend and her family who only use it part time, so the place is all yours! No pets, no smokers, no noise please- this is a quiet building used by a small group of family members and professionals, where everyone strives to be respectful of each other's space and tranquility.
