This sublet is located in charming, historical, and sometimes gritty Park Slope, what many people consider to be one of the most desirable neighborhoods in all of New York City, on 9th Street between 4th & 5th Avenue. In 2010 it was ranked #1 in New York by New York Magazine citing its quality schools, dining, nightlife, shopping, access to public transit, green space, quality housing, safety, and creative capital. It was named one of the "Greatest Neighborhoods in America" by the American Planning Association in 2007, "for its architectural and historical features and its diverse mix of residents and businesses, all of which are supported and preserved by its active and involved citizenry". In December 2006, Natural Home magazine named Park Slope one of America's ten best neighborhoods based on criteria including parks, green spaces and neighborhood gathering spaces; farmer’s markets and community gardens; public transportation and locally owned businesses; and environmental and social policy.
In 2009 I moved with my family to a rural area north of the city, and when I am not visiting or working in Brooklyn I rent out my apartment. I've kept the apartment furnished and equipped so that you have what you need for comfort and to live like a local. It is a sunny, one bedroom 3rd floor apartment in a quiet, 3-family brick building. It comes fully furnished, including a well equipped kitchen, 100% cotton bed linens, and bath towels. All you need is a change of clothes, toiletries, and personal items. The apartment has internet access, a/c, ceiling fan, and plenty of closet space. The small but cozy bedroom is at the rear of the apartment, ie: no street noise, and overlooks the lovely downstairs garden and three grazing urban chickens. A sleeper sofa in the common area (not a private space) can open to accommodate two more people. There is no charge for children 12 and under.
The apartment is 1/2 block from the M, R, and F trains, which bring you to lower Manhattan within 20 minutes, and central Manhattan in about 45 minutes. Walk up 9th Street 4-1/2 blocks and you’re in the 585-acre Prospect Park (Brooklyn's equivalent of Central Park), the huge Harmony Playground, and the renowned Bandshell for live, free performances all summer. Within one block of the apartment is a large well-stocked grocery store, several pharmacies and banks, and the post office. Continue down 5th Avenue and you’ll find dozens of highly regarded restaurants (like the famous Al Di La reviewed in the New York Times) as well as tons of ethnic places (Mexican, Indian, Moroccan, Thai, etc), boutiques, coffee shops (Ozzie's, Gorilla Coffee), patisseries (Blue Sky Bakery, Colson Patisserie), and bars. Up on 7th Avenue, you’ll find more of the same, plus larger stores like Barnes and Noble and Starbucks. This is truly a great location from which to access most of New York City's landmarks, features, and fun. Also, it borders Park Slope's historic, landmarked neighborhood, which provides charming local walks and explorations.
PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING: 1) a $200 REFUNDABLE deposit is required. This is to provide me with some insurance in case of breakage or theft; promptly returned when my apt is turned back to me in the same condition in which it was sublet. This deposit is a transaction which happens through Airbnb once a booking is made. 2) CLEANING FEE: There is a $55 cleaning fee for any reservation. This money goes directly to my wonderful cleaning lady, who ensures that you have clean bed and bath linens and a mop & scrub-sponge cleaned apartment. This transaction is made automatically through Airbnb when you book the apartment. Don't forget to check the "House Rules" as well please. Thank you!
The subway is conveniently located right on the corner, moments from the front door.
Please note: no smoking, no pets, no parties. Check in is after 4pm, check out by 11am (depending on availability, we can sometimes make other arrangements to suit your schedule). And finally, please, please, please BE QUIET walking around the apartment (particularly in shoes). Unfortunately noise travels much too easily, and the downstairs neighbors can hear every shoe-clad footstep. Thanks!
C'est toujours un régal de rester à Brooklyn, surtout aussi proche du métro et des boutiques du quartier. Merci Sandye ! L'appartement est simple et idéal pour une petite famille comme la notre.
The apartment is in a fabulous location. Close to transportation, great restaurants and shopping. It is in an older building and did hear heavy footsteps above us in the morning hours.
Sandye's place is perfect for those visiting NYC and I definitely recommend it! It's located right by the train stop that will get you to and from Manhattan quickly. The check-in/out process is super easy and simplified. The apartment itself is very cute and spacious. I enjoyed my 2 days in the city.
Both me and my husband Matthew truly enjoyed our stay at Sandye's place. The apartment is as cozy as it looks in the pics, the kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and the bathroom is really spacious with fluffy white towels. Also, the location can't be beat, it's one block to the F/G stop on 4th Ave/9th Street, which brings you to Manhattan in no time. Although, who needs that, with being just another block away from 5th Ave in Park Slope, where there are lots of nice restaurants and bars to hang out in. I also want to send a huge Thank You to Sandye who was always quick to reply to any questions I had, who organized a real easy key pick-up and who was flexible enough to let Matthew stay a couple more hours in the apartment on check-out day. Overall, it was a wonderful, relaxing place, just perfect to come "home" to after a day running around in the city!
The hostess was very helpful and responded to emails within minutes. Her instructions about key pickup and the apt were very good.
This is a wonderful place to explore Brooklyn from. Sandye was helpful and easy to communicate with. The space is warm and welcoming, with a great kitchen if you like cooking. It is super close to the subway. You are a block away from many cool restaurants and shops including Tacos Nuevos Mexico, which has excellent Mexican food. I had such a blast staying here. I am sure you will as well!
Wonderful stay. good communication, easy key pick up & drop off, very clean apt, and fully stocked with anything you may need. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend. Thanks again, Sandye!

I sublet this apartment for my friend and her family who only use it part time, so the place is all yours! No pets, no smokers, no noise please- this is a quiet building used by a small group of family members and professionals, where everyone strives to be respectful of each other's space and tranquility.
