Your Charming South Berkeley Flat!

Apartment - Private room · Fairview St, Berkeley, CA 94703, United States

After reading the description, I encourage you to also read my reviews. Ask about the cost of stays for one week or more. I'm not unwilling to compromise. Check out time is actually dependant on whether or not there is a new guest arriving after you.

This is a charming three-bedroom flat that is a stone's throw from the Ashby BART (subway) station. On weekends, you can attend the flea market there and find all sorts of wonderful treasures. The neighborhood is almost entirely residential. There is a great breakfast spot one block away, a fantastic coffee/sandwich/pastry shop three blocks away, a karaoke bar right around the corner and the post office is at the top of the street. Other than that, you'll have to walk about 15 minutes to get to Telegraph Ave (and did I mention that BART is only FIVE minutes away?). The Cal campus is just one stop on BART ($1.75 each way), and you can get to downtown SF in less than 25 minutes on BART as well ($3.50 each way). You can't park in front of my home on the first Tuesday of the month from 9a - noon or across the street on the first Monday of the month from 9a - noon. Other than that, parking is plentiful and free.

Your modest-sized room comfortably sleeps two in a queen-sized bed. There are two matching night stands, a matching three-drawer chest and a closet (with hangers). There's a 19" flat screen with DirecT.V. hook-up. The room is at the back of the house so you don't hear any of the (almost non-existent) street noise. There will be clean sheets and towels available for your use.

The second bedroom is larger, but there is no t.v. There is a queen sized bed, a small side table and desk and hangers for your use in the detached wardrobe. This room is directly off the living room and shares a wall with the flat screen. If you are at home sleeping, I can always watch t.v. in my room. There will be clean sheets and towels for your use in this room as well.

Check the calendar for my other listing to find out if both rooms are available at the same time.

Please note that I have some things stored in the closets of the rooms. I ask that you leave them alone.

In general, the apartment is nicely appointed. There's a comfy sofa and loveseat in the living room. A good-sized t.v. is mounted on the wall. If you want to have movie night, there's a surround sound system for our entertainment.

The kitchen is quite large and you're free to use anything that you need to cook and serve a meal. You'll be able to get fresh ingredients for any creation that you come up with at Berkeley Bowl, which is less than 1/2 a mile from the flat and is quite possibly the BEST market on earth, (think Whole Foods for less than half the price).

Also, if you are visiting from another country, I have a pre-paid T-Mobile phone that you can load up and use during your stay.

Important side note: This is a queer/queer-friendly household. We won't tolerate intolerance.

  • This flat was conveniently located in the bay area. Truman was helpful and welcoming. We were surprised to have to share a bathroom with three other people on our first night. Guests were respectful of each other so we managed to work around this inconvenience. Water in shower was difficult to adjust so we had a scalding hot shower on two mornings. Bedroom and bathroom needed cleaning but the living area was fine.

  • Truman was an excellent host! I spent 6 nights at his flat in March 2014. He shared a lot of great information on the area and I enjoyed the conversations we had in passing.

The location was excellent since it is only a few blocks from Ashby Bart station which made getting around Berkeley or going into the city very easy.

Room was clean and comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was strong!

Would definitely consider staying here agin next time I find myself in the bay area.

  • My fiancee and I spent 2 nights at Truman's in March 2014. Communication about our reservation was excellent, and Truman was very flexible regarding check-in time, which we appreciated. The location is ideal--3 blocks away from BART and Zipcars, if you use that service. Once you hop on the train, the 16th Street stop in the Mission in SF is about 15 minutes.

The room is sparse, but comfortable for a few nights stay. The room and the bathroom were clean.

We crossed Truman's path a couple of times briefly during our stay. He was a great host, and I felt confident if we had any questions or issues during our stay, he would be very responsive.

Overall, its an excellent budget alternative to staying in the City. Highly recommended.

  • Truman was an amazing host who was very accommodating. I highly recommend having him host if it's possible. Thanks Truman for adding to the great experience of our trip!

    February 2014
  • Truman made our stay as effortless as possible. We booked the room just hours before we needed it (he was truly a lifesaver), and the space was clean, quiet, and comfortable. There were other tenants staying there, and they equally made us feel at home. Would definitely stay again.

    P.S. Ample street parking.

  • Very nice place and convenient to BART. Great shower! Everything was clean and well organized. Truman is a lovely man and super accomodating. The sweet cat that visits on the back porch is a nice touch. I hope she gets treats. :)

    January 2014
  • We didn't interact with Truman much since he was unfortunately under the weather. Overall, staying there was a positive experience. The house was clean and tidy. We stayed in one of two guest rooms. The other guest there while we were was friendly and we chatted with him in passing. The house was conveniently located near the Ashby Bart. Make sure to read the house manual---it was our first time using Airbnb and we were a little unclear on a few things: we didn't realize we weren't supposed to use the black glasses in the kitchen. Also, check-out time is 11am--Truman can flex on this but you need to communicate with him beforehand. Recommend--just don't use the black glasses!

    December 2013
  • Truman's house is clean and comfortable. Truman is a gracious host.

  • Great place to stay. It has become my home away from home.

About
I'm a 39-year-old guy who moved to Berkeley from San Francisco in February of 2012. I'm outgoing and personable, or so I've been told. That being said, I like the idea of having time alone for myself at home, which is why I'm using (website hidden), rather than getting a full-time roommate. I keep a neat house, but I'm not anal retentive about cleanliness. I suspect that we'll get along just fine as long as you respect me and my home. Reserve the room and come find out.
