My airy home with modern decor is conveniently located close to the freeway and St Pete's exciting downtown with fun shops, restaurants, museums and an outdoor market in the wintertime. It's also close to a beach and Tropicana where the Rays play.
This is the open plan living room, dining room and kitchen. Beyond this is the office and french doors leading to the deck and studio/laundry room.
My art-filled North St Petersburg home, furnished with vintage mid century modern finds, is in a luxuriant tropical garden setting. It's conveniently located near downtown and within a few minutes of Tampa Bay and the North Beach outdoor swimming pool and it is a 15 to 20 minute drive to the Gulf Beaches. The Sunken Gardens, Tropicana Sports Field and several museums are nearby, including the new Salvador Dali Museum. It is also within walking distance of a small shopping center with a popular sushi restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, a convenience store and the bus stop. The freeway entrance is a few blocks away (but not so close as to be disturbed by freeway traffic). There are two parks within walking distance--Crescent Lake and Booker Creek--and there are several nature parks within a few miles including Boyd Hill Nature Park and Sawgrass Lake.
My 1,100’ house is an open plan with a light-filled great room (living room, dining room, kitchen and office) with hardwood floors in the living room area and the bedrooms and tiles everywhere else. French doors lead onto a huge wooden deck and a small, exotic garden beyond. It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and was completely renovated a few years ago. It has central air conditioning, high speed internet connection and a separate air conditioned studio with washer and dryer. There is plenty of parking on the street as well as off-street parking.
The entire house is available to rent when I am out-of-town (I do charge a premium for the entire house). When I am home the bright and sunny guest bedroom (just over 11 by 14 feet), with a new bed, new mattress and bed sheets plus a foam mattress that conforms to one's body shape and a new, private bathroom en suite, is available.
I try to maintain a green household: there are water barrels to collect rainwater in the garden, and I reduce, reuse and recycle whenever possible. I encourage my guests to do the same.
When I am out-of-town on trips my guests have access to the entire house and deck although my artist's studio is off limits except to access the washer and dryer located there. When I am home guests have access to the great room (which includes living room and kitchen) and the expansive deck.
Interaction with Guests
I come and go a lot. But occasionally, when I'm home, I enjoy sharing a meal with my guests in the kitchen/dining room or, in cooler weather, on the back deck. I've taken a few guests to yoga classes and social events with me and to the beach for a swim or stroll.
I love the convenience of my neighborhood--it's close to so many amenities, including two restaurants, a dollar store, a deli, and two parks. All are within walking distance. It's quiet here and my neighbors are friendly.
There's a bus stop on the corner and buses run regularly throughout the day (but not at night). Guests are welcome to borrow my bicycle. The freeway entrance is a few blocks from my house and North Beach and public swimming pool are a short drive away, as are the local health food store and a great Italian deli.
Other Things to Note
St Pete is becoming an art destination! It's not just about beautiful beaches (although we have plenty of those as well). There are many museums and galleries to visit both here and in Tampa and Sarasota.
No smoking or drug use
Quiet after 11 p.m. and before 7 a.m.
Guests are welcome to use the kitchen but are expected to clean up after themselves (there is a dishwasher so clean-up is easy).
Rose Marie made me feel like a part of the household. I really enjoyed my stay there and was sorry to have to leave. The house and my room were clean and bright. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was an excellent piece of interior design. The backward was a great place to just chill out. The neighborhood was quiet, safe and located for easy access to downtown as well as the highway.
Rose Marie was a warm and welcoming host. She made us feel at home and helped us get the best of the surrounding area. The room and em suite was especially comfortable and the location was very convenient. Would recommend to anyone.
I stayed with Rose Marie after moving cross-country to start a new job, and she made me feel great about my choice of a new hometown. She was warm and gracious and full of wonderful recommendations on everything from restaurants and art galleries to beach spots and hair salons. The accommodations were comfortable and pretty -- Rose Marie's artistic talent definitely carries over to her home -- and the location was very convenient to downtown St. Pete. I especially liked starting my days in the open, airy kitchen and stepping out into the backyard garden. It was a wholly enjoyable stay.
We felt so fortunate to have found Rose Marie's beautiful home in which to stay during our recent visit to St Petersburg. Her house is immaculate, the guest room and bathroom are private and quiet, and the sofa bed is amazingly comfortable. Rose Marie is a considerate hostess, and went out of her way to ensure that we had everything we needed. Having our morning coffee and breakfast on the deck every morning, surrounded by her lovely garden, made our visit especially memorable. I highly recommend her house as a place to stay.
I booked Rose Marie's room for a friend that was visiting St. Petersburg from Boston. While I didn't stay there, I found communication to be very easy, including picking up the key in advance for a very late night arrival. My friend reports a good night's sleep in an immaculate envirnoment. Rose Marie gave them her master bedroom and even kept the cat out prior to the visit because of allergies,
My family was fortunate to find Rose Marie's modern home to serve as our home-away-from-home during our 10-day stay in St. Pete for our daughter's wedding. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, while being centrally located - easy access to I-275 and downtown. We had no problems with parking our rental minivan on the street across from the house - it was too long a vehicle to park behind the house off the alley. Access to a washer and dryer was a huge plus. SInce we rented the whole house while Rose Marie was out of town, we did not have the pleasure of meeting her in person, but her communication with us at all levels was outstanding. She even went above and beyond when I let her know that I had lost my iPhone somewhere between her home and the Tampa airport as we were leaving for our trip home. She took the time to search her house, yard, and even the street where we parked, and called me back promptly - I truly appreciated that extra effort!
The potential guest must realize that you are staying in someone's home where they "live". As such, one cannot expect it to be outfitted like a 5-star hotel. Furnishings are not new, linens are well used, things will show some wear and tear from everyday use, and there might be a stray dust bunny or two. That's how most of us live. We found Rose Marie's house to be comfortably home-like. We were able to relax, and our 4 1/2 year old granddaughter had space to play. That's what we were looking for - and the little yellow house with the amazing bougainvillea arch over the front entry provided it, for a very budget friendly price. Thank you, Rose Marie (and Ms. Tigger).
Rose Marie is warm and welcoming. Her house is full of light and immaculately clean and the yard is an oasis in the city. Guests without cars should be aware that the buses in this neighbourhood stop running around 6 p.m.
I am an artist and I teach painting at Eckerd College and at the Morean Arts Center. My hobbies are yoga, walking, gardening and swimming. There's a bird feeder in my garden and I love to watch the birds through the window when I'm sitting in my home office.
