"Home Away From Home!" That's what our guests say about Bay Tree Cottage. We offer a full kitchen, super-comfy queen bed, art-filled rooms, pool and landscaped gardens, plus easy access to the Sonoma Coast, redwoods, and world-class wineries.
Bay Tree cottage is your home-away-from-home in the heart of the wine country. Our fully equipped, one bedroom cottage is quiet, homey, peaceful and filled with original art. It's the perfect launching point to explore the fabulous scenery and great wines from the Sonoma Coast to the Napa Valley.
This is a private, non-smoking environment for relaxing and recharging. The Cottage has a full bedroom ( separate from the living room) with a large walk in closet (with a washer/dryer for your exclusive use), fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with shower. It is situated on a one-third acre property also shared by the hosts. We're minutes away from many of our area's top attractions—bike and hiking trails, the Russian River, world-class wineries, redwood forests, Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, and top-rated restaurants. We're about 40 minutes from the magnificent Sonoma Coast. The drive there takes you through Bodega (where Hitchcock filmed "The Birds") and over the gorgeous California coastal range. It is a truly beautiful drive.
You'll find Bay Tree Cottage in a tree-filled, older, settled residential neighborhood in Larkfield, just north of Santa Rosa. We're just minutes from the Santa Rosa airport and two blocks from shopping and the Santa Rosa city bus; an easy walk to meet all your needs. A 15 minute walk takes you to the wonderful local Farmer's market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, with three great espresso spots on the way. The neighborhood gourmet grocery store has great barbeque on weekends, or you can enjoy pizza, gourmet cakes, Thai , Japanese cuisine or old-fashioned diner food just two blocks away.
Guests enjoy the Cottage's enclosed back patio where in season you can relax on the chaise lounges, watch the hummingbirds, and dine under the wisteria-covered arbor while gazing out at the pool. Lucy, our very guest-friendly dog, is happy to hang out with you —or if you prefer, she'll leave you alone. The cottage has its own private driveway bordered with irises (in season) and a Granny Smith apple tree. Your private front yard features native manzanita, a persimmon tree, daffodils, roses, more irises and our beautiful Bay tree. In season you're welcome to pick your own organic Granny Smith apples and make a pie! The persimmon tree is gorgeous in the fall.
Here's a brief sample of what you'll discover ten minutes or less from your door: The Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, the Santa Rosa Farmer's market, John Ash restaurant, Kendall-Jackson winery, Willie's Wine Bar, and hiking trails in Foothill and Shiloh Regional Parks. Fifteen or twenty minutes away, you can enjoy canoeing/kayaking/swimming in the Russian River, shopping and dining in Healdsburg and Sebastopol, and the famous Dry Creek Valley Wine Trail. Calistoga and the Napa Valley wine country are about 30 minutes away on a beautiful road where you'll see numerous vineyards and wineries. The town of Sonoma and San Francisco are about a 45- to 50-minute drive. You can make a day of it in the City, then return to your Cottage for a peaceful night.
AMENITIES AT BAY TREE COTTAGE INCLUDE: Free wifi, tv with cable, streaming Netflix/ Hulu and dvd player with a good supply of dvds; a fully equipped separate kitchen with a range, microwave, coffee maker, full sized refrigerator, and cooking/eating utensils as well as condiments; fenced-in private patio with chaise lounges; and swimming pool (unheated).
The living room has a comfortable full sized sleeper sofa. The separate bedroom includes a large walk in closet with washer and dryer and a queen-sized platform bed. We've added a Tempurpedic-style topper to the mattress to insure maximum sleeping comfort. Our guests have raved about it! For our guests with babies we provide a Graco Pack and Play for your use.
Both the living room and bedroom are cooled by ceiling fans.
All linens, shampoo and soaps also provided.
"D-Marie" homemade granola, fresh organic fruit, Greek yogurt and coffee, hot chocolate and assorted teas are provided for your first breakfast.
The kitchen cupboard is filled with all you need to cook including spices, condiments, rice, oatmeal, etc.
The owners live on this one-third acre site but you can visit and never see them unless you need something! Lucy, a Husky-McNab mix, is totally people-friendly. We keep the cottage a pet free zone for guests who prefer that, but she can join you in your patio area if you'd like. She's always up for making new friends! Guests missing their own dogs at home really enjoy hanging out with Lucy!
We recommend you stay for at least two nights but will accept one night stays at a higher rate of $185/night plus the cleaning fee.
Our past guests have stayed as long as two months and as briefly as two nights. They've come looking for a new home in the area, to participate in a bike race or the Vine man triathalon, to teach or take classes, attend weddings, visit wineries or relatives, or just for a quick, relaxing get-away for a week or weekend.
Whatever might bring you our way, we invite you to come relax and enjoy Bay Tree Cottage. We're happy to recommend possible day trips, restaurants and wineries. We'll do all we can to insure your stay is a success. We love this area and are eager to share it with new friends!
Guests have their own private back patio, washer/dyer, seperate driveway and front yard.
The unheated swimming pool and the yard outside of your patio area are shared spaces. The concrete driveway is used only by the owners.
Interaction with Guests
We introduce ourselves to our guests and show them the cottage. We are happy to recommend restaurants, day trips and our favorite wineries . If our guests want to interact with us we are happy to do so but also have many guests who enjoy complete privacy the entire stay. The cottage is a very private space affording guests as much alone time as they desire. We have a lockbox next to the front door which allows guests to check in very late if that best meets their needs.
We love the quiet, mature trees, broad lanes and our friendly neighbors. Its nice to be able to walk two blocks to get groceries, espresso, bakery items or take out food. A longer walk takes you to the twice weekly vibrant and fun Farmer's market at the Wells Fargo Center.
There are cabs easily available in our area. The city bus stop is two blocks away. Some flights come directly into Santa Rosa and the airport is only 10 minutes away. Most people get around in cars for better access to the beautiful scenery in our area.
Other Things to Note
Sonoma County charges a 9% transient occupancy tax (TOT). Our TOT number is 1457N.
No smoking and no pets. Not suitable for young children due to the unfenced pool. This home is in a quiet, older residential neighborhood.
The sleeping accommodations are one Queen bed (in the bedroom) and a double bed/sleeper sofa (in the separate living room).
As the cottage is on a septic system we request only toilet paper in the toilet. Also, please use the garbage disposal gently. If you like we also compost and you're welcome to contribute to that . The grey garbage can is for regular garbage and the blue one is for recyclables. The green cans are for yard waste. The compost Tumbler is in the back yard just off the path.
POOL RULES: The pool is unheated but delightful on a hot day; non-glass items only in pool area (provided). Guests swim at their own risk as there is no lifeguard on duty. No children outside of the patio area without an adult with them at all times as the pool is not fenced.
There is a large gate between the guest driveway and the backyard. Lucy, our dog, will leap at a chance to fly through the gate and have an adventure in the neighborhood. Please, don't leave that gate open and watch her when you go in and out of that gate. We also ask you not to feed her your people food as she has a delicate tummy.
We don't charge a security deposit as we are trusting that guests will leave the cottage the way they found it. So far we've had only positive experiences so feel our trust has been well founded.
Upon check out, please place your used towels on the bathroom floor. Leave the bed(s) unmade. Wash, dry and put away any used dishes and take out your trash. Leave the keys on the desk and lock the front door at the knob . We hope you enjoy your stay and will come back our way again!
Jesse and Doris have created a very nice comfortable place to hang out. There location made it easy just to walk down to the local grocery or coffee house.
What a great experience! Jesse and Doris were the perfect amount of welcoming and the Bay Tree Cottage was just as described. It was a great little getaway - a cute apartment with a lovely, relaxing backyard that was well-situated for getting around wine country. We had a great time hiking in the area, eating at lovely restaurants in nearby towns and coming home to a glass of wine in the garden. It was a great trip!
What a great location for visiting wineries in the Russian River, Dry Creek, or Alexander Valley areas. This was our third stay at the Bay Tree Cottage and I think each experience is better than the last one. The cottage is as clean and comfortable and provides a relaxing environment when your not out visiting the wineries. Jesse and Doris are the consummate hosts who can sit and chat, enjoy a glass of wine, or be totally transparent depending on your preferences.
We are already planning our next visit in the fall. Thanks for a great experience and relaxing retreat.

Our very first Airbnb - This stay was wonderful! Everything in the listing is completely accurate. I was surprised at how clean and comfortable everything was. Felt very homey, which after a day of wine tasting is sometimes what you need!
Although we were not able to meet Jesse and Doris, they were very accommodating to our late arrival due to traffic. Sweet of them to provide breakfast and champagne (it was even personalized to my name!). They did provide lots of local information and winery guides.
Neighborhood was dark when we arrived but not troublesome at all. Extremely close to the main road.
Overall, an amazing weekend getaway spot. Close to wineries and restaurants to keep you busy and full. I would recommend. Thank you Jesse and Doris!
We felt very much at home in BayTree Cottage. It was like our own apartment, and being able to have meals in was a big plus. we felt welcomed, especially with the champayne left for us. We were in Santa Rosa to meet our new grandson, and it was appreciated.
What you see is what you get - except you can't feel the graciousness of the hosts. The cottage is beautiful inside and out and COMPLETELY outfitted with anything and everything you could ever imagine.
I'm glad the cottage met your needs. We really enjoyed your both being there. We had to stay a little reserved due to my sister's needs though. We hope you'll make it back sometime and that everything continues to go well for the new baby granddaughter. Best to you both,
Doris and Jesse
The cottage was just what we were looking for our anniversary! It was clean, comfortable, and the perfect amount of space for the two of us. The fresh fruit and granola were a nice added touch. This was my first Airbnb experience and I hope the rest will be just as great as this one.
I've always enjoyed traveling, especially when I've stayed with a local family or in a vacation rental. My husband, Jesse, and I have worked to make our little cottage comfortable and peaceful for family, friends and new friends to visit. We have collected original artwork from local artists, often during "ArtTrails", an annual Sonoma County event during which artists open their studios to the public. In addition to working in the Health care field for the past 30 years, I also study painting and enjoy creating my own original art. Jesse is a song writer and jazz guitarist. His band, "Honey B and the Pollinators" performs 30s and 40s swing/Jive music. Need a fun dance band? Check them out on YouTube!
We consider ourselves so fortunate to live in this beautiful area. Sonoma County truly has the perfect climate and landscape! And our wineries can't be beat! Whenever we travel (which we enjoy as often as possible), we're always delighted to come home to Sonoma County. We're happy to share our favorite local sites and activites with our guests. Best food, best hiking and biking spots, Sonoma Coast beach, perfect day trip... just ask and we'll be happy to offer our ideas and insights.
