"Home Away From Home!" That's what our guests say about Bay Tree Cottage. We offer a full kitchen, super-comfy queen bed, art-filled rooms, pool and landscaped gardens, plus easy access to the Sonoma Coast, redwoods, and world-class wineries.

The Space

Bay Tree cottage is your home-away-from-home in the heart of the wine country. Our fully equipped, one bedroom cottage is quiet, homey, peaceful and filled with original art. It's the perfect launching point to explore the fabulous scenery and great wines from the Sonoma Coast to the Napa Valley.
This is a private, non-smoking environment for relaxing and recharging. The Cottage has a full bedroom ( separate from the living room) with a large walk in closet (with a washer/dryer for your exclusive use), fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with shower. It is situated on a one-third acre property also shared by the hosts. The main house is very separate from the cottage, affording you as much privacy as you desire. We're minutes away from many of our area's top attractions—bike and hiking trails, the Russian River, world-class wineries, redwood forests, Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, and top-rated restaurants. We're about 40 minutes from the magnificent Sonoma Coast. The drive there takes you through Bodega (where Hitchcock filmed "The Birds") and over the gorgeous California coastal range. It is a truly beautiful drive.

You'll find Bay Tree Cottage in a tree-filled, older, settled residential neighborhood in Larkfield, just north of Santa Rosa. We're just minutes from the Santa Rosa airport and two blocks from shopping and the Santa Rosa city bus; an easy walk to meet all your needs. A 15 minute walk takes you to the wonderful local Farmer's market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, with three great espresso spots on the way. The neighborhood gourmet grocery store has great barbeque on weekends, or you can enjoy pizza, gourmet cakes, Thai or Japanese cuisine or old-fashioned diner food just two blocks away.

Guests enjoy the Cottage's enclosed back patio where in season you can relax on the chaise lounges, watch the hummingbirds, barbecue your dinner, and dine under the wisteria-covered arbor while gazing out at the pool. Lucy, our very guest-friendly dog, is happy to hang out with you —or if you prefer, she'll leave you alone. The cottage has its own private driveway bordered with irises (in season) and a Granny Smith apple tree. Your private front yard features native manzanita, a persimmon tree, daffodils, roses, more irises and our beautiful Bay tree. In season you're welcome to pick your own organic Granny Smith apples and make a pie! The persimmon tree is gorgeous in the fall.

Here's a brief sample of what you'll discover ten minutes or less from your door: The Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, the Santa Rosa Farmer's market, John Ash restaurant, Kendall-Jackson winery, Willie's Wine Bar, and hiking trails in Foothill and Shiloh Regional Parks. Fifteen or twenty minutes away, you can enjoy canoeing/kayaking/swimming in the Russian River, shopping and dining in Healdsburg and Sebastopol, and the famous Dry Creek Valley Wine Trail. Calistoga and the Napa Valley wine country are about 30 minutes away on a beautiful road where you'll see numerous vineyards and wineries. The town of Sonoma and San Francisco are about a 45- to 50-minute drive. You can make a day of it in the City, then return to your Cottage for a peaceful night.

AMENITIES AT BAY TREE COTTAGE INCLUDE: Free wifi, tv with cable, streaming Netflix/ Hulu and dvd player with a good supply of dvds; a fully equipped separate kitchen with a range, microwave, coffee maker, full sized refrigerator, and cooking/eating utensils as well as condiments; a weber barbecue, charcoal and utensils ready for your use; fenced-in private patio with chaise lounges; swimming pool (unheated).

The living room has a comfortable full sized sleeper sofa. The separate bedroom includes a large walk in closet with washer and dryer and a queen-sized platform bed. We've added a Tempurpedic-style topper to the mattress to insure maximum sleeping comfort. Our guests have raved about it! For our guests with babies we provide a Graco Pack and Play for your use!
Both the living room and bedroom are cooled by ceiling fans.
All linens, shampoo and soaps also provided.

"D-Marie" homemade granola, fresh organic fruit, Greek yogurt and coffee, hot chocolate and assorted teas are provided for your first breakfast.
The kitchen cupboard is filled with all you need to cook including spices, condiments, rice, oatmeal, etc.

The owners live on this one-third acre site but you can visit and never see them unless you need something! Lucy, a Husky-McNab mix, is totally people-friendly. We keep the cottage a pet free zone for guests who prefer that, but she can join you in your patio area if you'd like. She's always up for making new friends! Guests missing their own dogs at home really enjoy hanging out with Lucy!

We recommend you stay for at least two nights but will accept one night stays at a higher rate of $135/night plus the cleaning fee.

Our past guests have stayed as long as two months and as briefly as two nights. They've come looking for a new home in the area, to participate in a bike race or the Vine man triathalon, to teach or take classes, attend weddings, visit wineries or relatives, or just for a quick, relaxing get-away for a week or weekend.

Whatever might bring you our way, we invite you to come relax and enjoy Bay Tree Cottage. We're happy to recommend possible day trips, restaurants and wineries. We'll do all we can to insure your stay is a success. We love this area and are eager to share it with new friends!

Guest Access

Guests have their own private back patio, washer/dyer, bar-b-que, seperate driveway and front yard.
The unheated swimming pool and the yard outside of your patio area are shared spaces. The concrete driveway is used only by the owners.

Interaction with Guests

We introduce ourselves to our guests and show them the cottage. We are happy to recommend restaurants, day trips and our favorite wineries . If our guests want to interact with us we are happy to do so but also have many guests who enjoy complete privacy the entire stay. The cottage is a very private space affording guests as much alone time as they desire. We have a lockbox next to the front door which allows guests to check in very late if that best meets their needs.

The Neighborhood

We love the quiet, mature trees, broad lanes and our friendly neighbors. Its nice to be able to walk two blocks to get groceries, espresso, bakery items or take out food. A longer walk takes you to the twice weekly vibrant and fun Farmer's market at the Wells Fargo Center.

Getting around

There are cabs easily available in our area. The city bus stop is two blocks away. Some flights come directly into Santa Rosa and the airport is only 10 minutes away. Most people get around in cars for better access to the beautiful scenery in our area.

  • Doris, Jesse, and Lucy were fantastic hosts and what a pretty property! We felt totally at home and relaxed. The area is super quiet yet close enough to shopping, highway, etc. The pool was a bonus with the heat wave that hit while we were there. Thank you so much! We hope to come back soon!

  • This was our second stay at the Bay Tree cottage and another fantastic Airbnb experience. It was as comfortable and relaxing as our first stay, but were didn't have any of the initial anxiety of what to expect from the hosts or the property. This is huge benefit of the Airbnb environment and the relationships established between travelers and their hosts. All of the previous review comments (including our own) are all still accurate. The Bay Tree cottage is a great place and Jesse and Doris couldn't be more accommodating as your hosts. Hope I can wrangle a business trip to SF (and the Bay Tree cottage) in the fall.

  • Bay Tree cottage was even lovelier than we imagined. A simply gorgeous property on an incredibly quiet street with beautiful art everywhere you looked. Doris and Jesse were excellent hosts and we loved every minute of our stay there and were sad to leave.

  • Great stay. Really friendly host, lovely neighbourhood, very convenient to lots of vineyards, and walking distance from Vintners Inn where we attended a wedding. They stock the fridge with yogurt, fresh fruit and home made granola. What more could you ask for?

  • Jesse and Doris made our stay very convenient. We only stayed two nights but the cottage looked very well equipped for a longer stay. It was very clean. We didn't use the pool but it looked very inviting. They responded back to our only question quickly.

  • We had a great time at Bay Tree Cottage. The cottage itself is very comfortable and very well equiped while the garden and pool area are stunning! Lucy the dog is very well behaved and so sweet! The surrounding area is gorgeous with many fantastic vineyards to sample. I highly recommend staying with Doug and Jesse at Bay Tree anytime!

  • We arrived at the Bay Cottage and were greeted warmly by Jesse and Doris. The cottage itself was beautifully decorated to a tee. We were treated to fresh fruit and delicious homemade granola. My mom and I enjoyed laying out in the sun on the enclosed porch area. Jesse and Doris provided us with a guidebook with different restaurants and grocery stores in the area, which was very helpful. We had a few questions during our stay and Jesse was a phone call away.
During one of our nights in we enjoyed watching one of our TV shows on the Netflix. We slept soundly and enjoyed the cool Santa Rosa night breeze! I would recommend Jesse and Doris's Bay Tree cottage to anyone who wants a quite getaway.

  • From the moment we walked into this sweet one bedroom house, we felt at home. Every little detail was taken care of and even though we didn't meet our hosts for a few days, we did get to hang out with their dog in the lovely back yard! Our hosts made themselves available upon their return but respected our privacy completely (and were instantly available to help us with the tv remote when we needed it!). The house is in a quiet Santa Rosa neighborhood and close to all amenities -- from local grocery store, coffee shops, and restaurants to wineries and the glorious Sonoma hillsides.

  • I had a fantastic stay at Bay Leaf Cottage! Jesse and Doris were the perfect hosts in that they were around and very obliging with any of my questions but gave you plenty of space. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated with the best of quality stuff and a brilliantly stocked kitchen. They have THE best mattress I have ever slept on and as someone with major back problems who dreads being away from their own bed this was a complete godsend and luxury. I think this really reflects Jesse and Doris's attitude towards providing for their guests - they give them the best. Delicious homemade granola and a vase full of beautiful cut flowers kept up the high standards. The place is excellently located. Peaceful and quite but with a great supermarket just 5 mins down the road. Easy access to the freeway to get out exploring, close to Santa Rosa and about 45 mins drive from stunning beaches........and of course their lovely four-legged friend Lucy to welcome you and keep you company. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough and hope to stay again when I am back that way.

  • Jesse and Doris were the best hosts ever! We've sublet a lot of places, and this was our favorite experience. The cottage is super cozy, everything worked great, and when the Netflix was on the fritz, Jesse worked really hard to get it fixed right away. The Internet is strong, TV options extensive, the bed the most comfortable ever, and our own little outdoor seating area/gated patio space was great! We loved waking up to the dogs coming to visit and sitting in the sun with our coffee. Sadly one of the dogs had to be put down while we were there, which was really sad, as we'd grown to love them in just a few weeks. The area is very quiet; we slept so well! You're removed from downtown Santa Rosa, which for us was somewhat of a good thing, as we liked the less hectic area of Larkfield-Wikiup. You will need a car here and you have your own dedicated driving to park it in, which is great. It was easy to get to the highway, and Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are just a 10-minute drive away. We highly recommend hiking around Spring Lake Park and into adjacent Annadel State Park. We're on a budget so we ate most meals at home and found the kitchen well-stocked, clean, and very functional. Jesse and Doris are just really nice, easy-going, fun people who will give you your privacy but are available at any time should you need anything. We loved Doris' homemade granola, and the yogurt and coffee were a nice touch. We'll come back if we can; we are still dreaming of our great 28-night stay there. We consider Jesse and Doris friends, not hosts. Thank you!

I've always enjoyed traveling, especially when I've stayed with a local family or in a vacation rental. My husband, Jesse, and I have worked to make our little cottage comfortable and peaceful for family, friends and new friends to visit. We have collected original artwork from local artists, often during "ArtTrails", an annual Sonoma County event during which artists open their studios to the public. In addition to working in the Health care field for the past 30 years, I also study painting and enjoy creating my own original art. Jesse is a song writer and jazz guitarist. His band, "Honey B and the Pollinators" performs 30s and 40s swing/Jive music. Need a fun dance band? Check them out on YouTube! We consider ourselves so fortunate to live in this beautiful area. Sonoma County truly has the perfect climate and landscape! And our wineries can't be beat! Whenever we travel (which we enjoy as often as possible), we're always delighted to come home to Sonoma County. We're happy to share our favorite local sites and activites with our guests. Best food, best hiking and biking spots, Sonoma Coast beach, perfect day trip... just ask and we'll be happy to offer our ideas and insights.
