About This Listing
This is a well equipped, bright and spacious studio flat located in old town of Tbilisi in a very typical house with so called Venetian wooden balconies. The hosts, who live in the same building are very hospitable and always ready to help. Welcome!
This is a comfortable studio flat located in old town of Tbilisi (“Sololaki” suburb). It used to be a drawing studio for the owners of the flat who are both artists, but now has been transformed into a small studio flat.
The flat can accommodate 4 people in total. (2 people on real bed and 2 people on soft mattress).
The flat is special also because many decades ago a very famous person was living there - Konstantine (Kote) Abkhazi (born in 1867). He was the public and political figure. Kote was one of the leaders for a liberation movement of Georgia, the Committee member and director of the Center for independence of Georgia, one of the founders of National - Democratic Party, and the party chairman, one of the founders of Tbilisi State University. After researching KGB archives, he is known as a hero in Georgia.

The flat has high ceiling (4 m) 2 floors and 2 beds (a double mattress upstairs and a new double bed downstairs, newly renovated bathroom (cold-hot water 24 hours), small kitchen and wifi Internet connection.
We provide you with clean space, clean sheets, towels, hairdryer, washing machine, electronic tea-kettle, refrigerator, microwave, blender, toster, iron, vacuum cleaner, ventilator, air conditioner, CD player with Georgian music, TV with many international channels and Tunisian water-pipe. If something is missing - feel free to ask.
Interaction with Guests
The owners - "Art family" is living in a flat, which is located at the same building one floor lower and is always available for help or just want to come and socialize and get to know better a typical Georgian family. We can provide you also with any practical support and tips on planning your stay.
If you prefer a more private stay and do not wish to interact much, you will not be disturbed.
This definitely one of the most special parts of Tbilisi - district "Sololaki". Although it is the old town and very close to everything, it is not touristic at all and populated by locals.
There is a big rock in front of house and a botanical garden behind it. There are many food shops nearby as well bread bakery, bank, buss stop, money exchange places, most famous restaurants with traditional Georgian as well as European food, etc.
You will need only 5 minutes walking to get to the Freedom square and Rustaveli street (the main street in Tbilisi).
Sololaki suburb is famous with its' historical wooden houses with outside Venetian balconies (architecture of 19-20 century) and multi-ethnic composition (in our house, for example, there are families from 5 different historical ethnicities living). This district used to be gardens of the kings and was made into a living district only later on.
While going along Sololaki streets you can understand why Tbilisi has been called “Caucasian Paris” – it is thanks to this special atmosphere of peace, language mix, cosmopolitan architecture of the 19-20th centuries. Tbilisi houses of that period by their splendour and quality could be compared with patterns of European “modern”: ambitious owners ordered the construction of their mansions to the best architects of the city.
By the end of the 19th century Sololaki had become a prestigious district, built by bourgeoisie with fashionable residences and profitable houses in “modern” style.
It is worth mentioning that today’s Sololaki looks like exactly as it did in those remote times and on some doorways decorated with marble crumbles, one can read the Latin writing SALVE (“Welcome”) or surnames of the former owners. Some old people do remember the names of the clerks, major manufacturers, bankers and merchants, whom these wonderful houses belonged to.
Taxi is very cheap in Georgia and you can get around for 2-5 lari. Try to negotiate with a driver in advance ;)!
There are some bus and mini-bus lines going on Asatiani street, but most of other connections are available from Freedom square (just 5 min walk). If you need more details on local transportation ask the owners :).
Other Things to Note
We offer also extra services: airport pick up, breakfast, car-trips to different destination of Georgia, cooking classes on Georgian traditional food, making the traditional Georgian textile (Seep's wool) and drawing a portrait for the friendly fees.
- Please don't make noise after midnight;
- As the balcony is shared with neighbours, make sure you do not block it by leaving your things there;
- If you wish to dry clothes, please use the string which is exactly opposite to your door (others belong to neighbours...);
- If you have any questions or miss anything, feel free to approach members of the family.
Guri was absolutely welcoming upon my arrival. He was at the main entrance to meet us and to assist us with our luggage. What you see in the apartment is as what it is. It was a pity that we couldn't enjoy much of the entire unit but if time was on my end, I would love to stay a little longer with the entire family.
Where else would you go to immerse yourself in a local culture other than this place? There are 11 families living in the entire building itself and they are so friendly and helpful. Upon leaving, we left Guri with a souvenir from our country. He was very pleased with it.
Dato met us at the airport and serenaded us on the drive into town. We met his wife and daughter, and both were nice, but we didn't see much of the family during our stay. We never met Guri, but he was called when we needed an interpreter. We cannot vouch for the private classes offered as there was a large language barrier, so the room and experience felt much more private than other reviewers reported. The apartment was just as described, along with what other reviewers posted about the set of steep stairs. It was bright and decorated in an interesting way. The neighborhood was wonderful--a perfect location for venturing into the city, and a short walk away from the best place in Tbilisi, where I spent every morning--Newsroom Cafe.
Good and central location in a charming georgian house. Good communication, Requests were promptly fulfilled even if the bath light shortly after the repair was out of order again. The only negative point was the access to the appartment what not was in the description: a steep ladder that did not work with baby! An alternative access via a normal staircase was only possible with 2 persons because the 1.Person is climbed on the ladder into the apartment and had to open an from the outside inaccessible door from the inside. The host knew that we will come with baby and would have to tell us this in advance.
Overall, a pleasant hassle-free stay in a beautiful city!
-Location. Super convenient! Right in the center. For example, lovely Pur Pur cafe/restaurant is just a 6 minute walk away.
-Entrance - very steep stairs. If you are significantly over 6'' tall or 150+lbs or have large/heavy luggage, getting in would be quite tricky.
-Breakfast is listed in Amenities, but actually is not provided. However, loose leaf tea and coffee are available in the apartment for guests to make anytime.
Great experience! Finding the apartment was a little difficult when we arrived at the building, but once inside we were very pleased. The studio apartment/loft was well designed and eclectic. All of the amenities you could need were available, including linens, a washing machine, a petite kitchen, and local guidebooks and brochures. The location was ideal for walking to popular areas and quiet in the evenings (no street noises). My experience was elevated further when the family invited me to join them for a traditional Georgian dinner. The food and company were both outstanding. Thank you!
Just a note: the ladder/stairs leading up to the apartment are steep. This is difficult with bulky luggage.
