Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
"The Farm" is located 7 minutes from Henry, IL and 30 minutes from Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks. This newly renovated farmhouse has a large front porch, hot tub, and 20 acres for walking and exploring- a perfect location for kicking back and spending time with friends or family! The space sleeps 12. The kitchen is ideal for large groups, with two sinks and dining seating for 12.

The space
We love spending time in our modern yet rustic farmhouse. We are equipped with WiFi, a hot tub, 20 walkable acres of forest, games, a fully stocked kitchen, and plenty of space for rest and relaxation!
The farm was owned by Josh's grandparents, who moved from Chicago to Magnolia in 1953. When Josh's grandmother passed away in 2016, Josh could not bear to see the farm leave the family. We purchased the farm a month after getting married, and rehabbed the farmhouse from Oct 2017-Oct 2019. The land is currently being used to farm hay, as we work to prepare the grounds for its original intent of organic farming.

Guest access
The farmhouse and surrounding land will be yours to explore! The closet in the mudroom and the "garage"- the blue building right next to the house- are kept locked.

Other things to note
*We get many guests from surrounding cities. We are city-folk ourselves, and we want to give a little more info here around expectations. Country-living can be a little different than city-life - which we think is one of the best reasons to visit "the farm!"
We do provide WiFi, but a couple of times a year, a strong storm may cut off the service for a few hours. Because we're in a rural location, it may take longer to restore service than it would in an urban or suburban setting. Unfortunately, we do not have control over regional outages. Similarly, electric lines run above ground here, compared to most cities, where they are protected underground. We have provided a generator to keep electricity running in the event of a power outage. There may be a second of interruption, but in instances of lost electricity, the generator will kick on to ensure power is up and running in no time.
Other differences - snow plows may take a little longer getting to all of the roads....grocery stores may not be as well stocked...These are just a few examples you may see. We're happy to answer any questions you may have around expectations.

*We have local contacts that can come out to the property and address needs, if they arise. We have found that communication is best way to have a great experience. Please keep us immediately notified of any issues that may arise, and we will work to address them ASAP. This house is very special to us, so we want to ensure it is in good working order, and that you have the best stay possible!

*Because of the secluded location, some cell providers may not work as well as others when offline. To avoid connection disruptions, connect to the wifi as soon as you arrive at the house. Once you're connected to the wifi, you shouldn't have any connection issues.

**We are surrounded by many working farms. We are not comfortable with general spraying, because we want to maintain the natural ecosystem of the area. We do take other precautionary measures to eliminate bugs. However, due to the location, it is possible you may see insects around the house. Therefore, if you are uncomfortable with insects, please look into other locations. **

*We provide Roku due to our location, we do not provide cable TV. Feel free to login to other providers using your own login account, but it is up to you to logout before leaving.

*Window AC units are available May-September. Please keep an eye on the weather prior to your stay, and if unseasonable weather is expected outside this timeframe, please plan accordingly.

*In the event of an emergency, please call 911 before attempting to contact us.

My work: Booth School of Business
Lives in Chicago, Illinois
Raised in the suburbs of Chicago. Now a resident of the west side of Chicago. I work as a videographer and dream of someday making a feature film. In 2017, a month after getting married, my new wife and I purchased my family farm. We spent two years rehabbing the farmhouse- talk about an initiation into marriage! Our lives mirror the hustle and bustle that define Chicago- our friends say we’ve always got a project going on- so, a getaway to the farm is always a treat! There’s something about spreading out on the land, enjoying the pure sounds of nature, and sharing the space with friends and family.
