Ruth was an amazing host! She picked us up from the airport and made arrangements to bring us back. Whenever we had questions she helped us and called around when she wasn´t sure. She even dropped us at some places that were hard to reach by bus! Thanks Ruth! We had a wonderfull time!

It was a pleasure to host your group of 5 and liked how you were open and willing to explore and try new types of experiences. This is what makes a trip memorable and I like your curiosity to explore and investigate our cultural and heritage areas as well as our food.

We arrived at Ruths and was very disappointed for the first time in our Airbnb history - after having traveled across Trinidad, Tobago, Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe, St Kitts & Nevis, St Martin, Anguilla and St Barts using Airbnb. Here is why: - the sole picture from the Airbnb page does not show the right building (its a vey different and ramshackle structure) - the address appointed in the Airbnb site is also wrong - the room was very dirty - the ref was not working - the stove and oven was not working - the aircon was not working - there was a smell of moist inside - the towels were dirty - the water was cold and never even got lukewarm Ruth had a friendly and talkative attitude, and made us feel welcome, but this did not compensate for the misaligned experience. We took one night and left the next morning although we had paid for four nights. For the exact same price we found a place nearby with an Italian family - a vast swanky apartment right on the ocean, spotless and luxurious. The other place was a rip off considering the low standard.

Anders was a family of 6 including three very small children. We shared several emails but he did not want heights so my listed unit on the top floor was out of the question. I prepared alternate units on the second floor just in case. I gave Anders 2 units in another building, my last construction on the bottom floor close to parking each with 2 beds. It was cleaned and cleans towels provided. I provided exact directions to my location in an email since at times, guests with rental vehicles get lost The cooking gas finished but this just required an email or call as additional bottles are on site .I had guests in these rooms the day before and was not aware of any appliance malfunctioning. The ac was making a sound and we agreed to change one of the rooms. He was quite understanding and very pleasant. Next day he said while driving, he saw a location which was more family oriented and he would move but I did not have to worry about the money. Next evening, I felt his change of attitude in an email listing his concerns which I responded to and is listed in this review. I tired my best and solutions could have been found but Anders made a decision to leave without exploring any options at my place. I still thank him for sharing his concerns and it has only motivated me to strive to provide a higher level of service to meet multi cultural expectations from persons of all nationalities who visit our beautiful island looking for a local experience.

Right next to the airport and only a ten dollar taxi away from St John's this is the ideal spot for couples, groups or for an extended stay. The beach is only 5 mins away and Some rooms have sea views (just ask!) Ruth could not have gone further out of her way to make my stay better or more memorable. She was my highlight of Antigua, a true good character

Ruth was very helpful and kindly picked me up at the airport, pointed out where to eat, and helped me get settled in. She left the following day, but her daughter kindly drove me to the airport. The place is close to the airport and super close to a beautiful beach! A great spot to overnight for layovers.

Ruth was a wonderful hostess. We were looking for a "living like a local" experience and found it here. Ruth volunteered to pick us up at the airport, but we had rented a car. Ruth even offered us her car to drive while we were there!! The view was wonderful as were the island breezes. We never turned on the AC. We did not use the kitchen as there is a wonderful French restaurant, Le Bistro, within walking distance. Within walking distance is a convenience store and also the American University Medical School. Across the street from AU are several food trucks with wonderful local food - piping hot, that students, staff, etc. from AU walk across and get to eat. Prices for the food trucks delights was very inexpensive. Le Bistro is pricey. This is a no frills place to stay that is clean and has plenty of room, including a nice porch. Ruth was very responsive when we had a problem and even provided us a list of restaurants when we asked for suggestions. You can't beat the local atmosphere, view, piece and quiet. The Internet worked great - which is very important to us. We had a blast in Antigua - zip lining in the rain forest, hiking at English Harbor, kayaking and snorkeling. The food is wonderful. The price of Ruth's allowed us to be extravagant in other areas.

I am a Development Economist by training and very passionate about the things I engage in . Ruth's Place is affordable but provides value for money. My motto is "do onto others as you would have them do unto you-I pride myself in giving service and value and I want everyone visiting to have a memorable experience. Whether it be through dining, driving around the country, a trip to the beach or just a casual conversation, it should add value to the experience.. I am involved in many local groups-PTA's, AUA Medical School Research Council, The Global Environmental Facility-Small Grants Program, yet i find quality time to spend with my guests and students. People matter to me and I strive to use every moment to bring out the best in people and to share experiences that build up and support relationships.
