Zavala is a small fishing-village with approximately 200 inhabitants. It is situated on the sunny southern side of the island of Hvar where the water is still crystall blue. Magnificent pebble beaches in Zavala are among the most beautiful in Croatia.
Inhabitants of this pittoresque Dalmatian village traditionally live of olives, wine, fishing, and more recently tourism. Thanks to the preserved atmosphere of a typical, peaceful Mediterranean resort Zavala can offer you peace and relaxation, completely opposite of the bustle of modern urban life. There are no hotels and urban noises nearby.
Zavala is connected to the northern side of the island Hvar by a unique tunnel with the length of about one mile (1.4 km). Constructed initially as a means of bringing water to the south of the island, the Pitve-Zavala tunnel was never designed for passenger traffic, but until recently, it was the only means of road access to Zavala.
In Zavala there are few restaurantes and bars and several guesthouses with accommodation, rooms and apartments. There is not any disco in Zavala, the next disco is situated in Jelsa that is about 7 km away from. In Hvar town (30km away) you will find many of them.
There is a bus in Zavala, but not often. You can come with car or call taxi. The apartment has parking space.
If you come by plane, it is the best way to rent a car or you can use taxi. From Split airport you drive to Split, then go to Stari Grad on island Hvar by ferry, and drive to Zavala.
We had a nice time in Zavala and Magaritas family was a great host. The apartment is really cosy and Zavala is a nice little place for a quiet holiday to regenerate.
we had a fabulose holiday-week at Megaritas place - thank you alot again!!!
we came there and got the keys as communicated. everything was prepared and very clean. the place is like in a fairy tale - very quite, surroundet by palms and flowers, like in the fotos. you can walk to the nearest beach in 10 minutes. also there not over-crowded like in other spots on the island (like Hvar-city) and very clear water and clean beach. It was the perfect location to relax and forget about work and the world outside :-)
the apartment was perfect for us (2 people): living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and an additional room as storage for clothes or for 2 other people. you will need a mosquito-spray, if you like to sit outside in the evening :-)
Hope to come one day back to this marvelous place!
Sehr schönes Haus, freundliche Gastgeber
The little Stonehouse in Zavala is heaven for someone who needs a rest. The area is just beautiful - just a 5 minute walk down a (steep) track to the beaches and very few people around to clutter them up! The water is the nicest I've swum in. I felt completely at peace there. The house is really quiet, great for a good night's sleep. Traditionally decorated, so it's very charming. It has all the things you need - towels, kitchenware, etc. Margarita and Velemir kindly collected me from the ferry and were very, very kind whilst I was there. Nothing is too much trouble for them. I felt very welcome. I absolutely cannot wait to return! Highly recommended.
This is a fantastic place to stay, and Margarita and her parents are super friendly and could not have been more helpful. The house is great, cool and calm, and the outdoor terrace is lovely. Beautiful view, lovely flowers everywhere, and a nice little walk down to fantastic beaches. I kind of want to keep it to myself!
