Architect Designed Natural Villa 2

House - Entire home/apt · Jalan Penestenan, Ubud, Bali 80571, Indonesia

Lovingly Designed to Be in touch with Nature. We were featured in the New York Times: Building in Harmony in Bali. And now, Airbnb has selected us as one of their 12 properties in the world for our high standards. Let us pamper you in the Paddies.

The Space

Walk 6 minutes or ride a rented motorbike along a tropical river path (and then up 30 steps) to our second architect designed loft-like antique joglo (traditional javanese teak house). Passiflora is set in the rice paddies of Penestanan, one rice paddy away from our other home, Passiflora: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/58045 Our village has no car access or car sounds but many sounds of geckos, roosters, frogs and collared kingfisher birds, and it is still walking distance away from Ubud (20 minutes).

Jazmin, like Passiflora is a reclaimed antique joglo brought in timber by timber from Java. Though similar, each of the joglos has its own personality and I have taken care to design every detail to make sure it is the ultimate in a unique indoor /outdoor living experience ( I am an architectural designer). Staying in these old transformed houses is a one of a kind experience in luxurious, simple, ecological living (read some of the reviews).

As you walk into Jazmin, you'll be taken by the the super spacious loft -like feel (1000 sq. ft. /90 meters square) with the added pleasure of a antique teak timber roof above your head (25 ft./ 8 meters) and all reclaimed wood panels, carvings and doors! We have re used every board.
The roof is made of handwoven grass. But the sensibility is modern with an emphasis on comfort. There is no villa quite as uniquely in touch with nature as Passiflora and Jazmin in Penestanan.

Read on the daybed on the verandah, have a conversation in the living room then have a nap in the bedroom on the king-sized super comfortable bed overlooking the family temple. The kitchen is perfect for cooking: polished concrete countertops and reclaimed wood cabinet doors. At night, the bedroom locks up for privacy and safety, but the living room stays open for maximum connection with nature. You can practice yoga comfortably in so many spots and later bathe under the stars in the sunken tub. Made and Made will pamper you with healthy breakfasts of our homemade yogurt and fruit or black rice pudding. I'll leave you my list of my favorite secret spots and restaurants. I am also writing up my suggestions for must sees on 3 day stay, a five day stay and a 7 to 10 day stay.

Honeymoon couples love Jazmin, however I also love staying in the joglos by myself and it's also a wonderful experience as a family. We are situated at the end of the path and are protected by Kadek's family in the Balinese compound below. Our homes are the only two in Penestanan rice paddies which are connected to family temples.

Like Passiflora, this is a truly unique experience for FIT folks who want to be in touch with the Bali of rice farmers in the most natural but still luxurious way! Enjoy!

  • We had an incredible 8 days at Villa Jazmin. Can't wait to come back!

  • My parents and I had a fantastic stay at Alej's villa! Such a beautiful place to bliss out in the rice fields for a week. The design of the villa is stunning - a must-see for anyone interested in interior design or architecture. The villa is spacious, comfortable beds, wifi, an amazing hot shower. We were treated to a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit and homemade jam every day. The walk to Bintang Supermarket or the bottom of the Campuan steps is about 10 minutes through the rice fields, where you can easily get transport into the centre of Ubud (Rp. 30,000 max). There are cooking facilities at the villa but also some fantastic warungs nearby. I would love to stay here again and I think my parents are already planning their next trip!

  • Perfect piece of heaven. The space could not be more romantic and cozy. Alejandra and her wonderful staff, Sri, Made and Made are the most cordial and thoughtful hosts. Clear simple lines and antique building material make this home unique and inviting. Waking up in green rice paddies with colorful tropical foliage is superb. Can't wait to go back to Ubud again. This place is a treasure.

  • The house is much better then on the pictures. We feld like in our own home from the dreams. Location is just one step from the center of Ubud but we didn't feel it because there is between the ricefields. The only problem is you don't want to leave the house...

  • We simply loved staying in this villa. Fantastic host, and we felt well taken care of all along. This villa is located in the rice fields, and the perfect place to be if you like to have one foot in the nature. We simply fell in love with the house, the place and Ubud in general. We will definitely be back to this house, and we consider this to be our Ubud home.

    Vibekke,
It will be such a pleasure to welcome you all back. Thank you. Alejandra

  • We had the pleasure of staying at Alej's beautifully designed Jasmine cottage (Villa 2) for three days in December 2013. The house is absolutely stunning, every inch is a gorgeous treat and incredibly cozy. We had every intention of doing more sightseeing around Bali during our stay, but once we arrived here we could barely tear ourselves away for dinner.
Allo picked us up on time and brought us to the cottage. It is a bit of a walk from the main road (as are many places in Ubud), so consider this when packing :) Made and Made came each morning and made delicious fruit salad and coffees for breakfast. We picked up some groceries at the nearby Bintang and were able to cook some meals as well in the well equipped kitchen, although there were many restaurants in walking distance too.
If views of rice paddies, beautiful architecture, fireflies, and tranquility are what you are looking for, stay here for sure!

  • Alejandra and Sri and Made and Made are the greatest hosts you could *ever* dream of. This home is exquisite. It is one of my favorite places I have ever stayed, and I've already been back and have planned my next visit. It is a dream escape. A haven for returning to the beauty of nature, living in a traditional javanese house, and being surrounded by inspiration and kindness from the community of Airbnb hosts who make sure your stay is absolutely perfect. These women feel like family. I give this listing my full and complete endorsement for anyone traveling to Ubud, staying with Alej and the girls is the *only* place to stay!

  • We had a perfect stay in this beautiful villa. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The included breakfast was wonderful with fresh fruit, toast and coffee every morning. Great small restaurants and a spa close by. 1 hour massage, salt and coffee scrub and flower bath all for $15 US at LaLa Lilly spa and restaurant. Great food for about 12 bucks a couple. Don't miss. Also Made's Warung close by. Great smoked duck. By all means if you are looking for a very Balinese experience dont miss this villa.

About
I am an architectural designer and world wanderer. I've lived and designed in lots of countries, but so far Bali is my favorite and I keep staying... 10 years and counting. My passion is making spaces a delight for the senses: visually poetic, dream-friendly, a few nice spots for kissing, a simple table for the sharing of food, a comfortable spot for intriguing conversation, a moon viewing corner. In the last years I've been having a love affair with old 120 year old teak structures from Java called joglos and limasans. I go to Java myself and select the structures in the villages. Then we bring them back and start working on a design that works within the limitations of these extraordinary structures. If you have a love attack and would like a joglo of your own in Bali... let me know... we can show you what we are working on... I'm Argentine-American. Hablemos en español, français, italiano.
