About this listing
Our hand crafted antique teak structures are carefully designed to be in touch with nature. If Jazmin is full, check Marguerite: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/866341
Lovingly Designed to Be in touch with Nature. We were featured in the New York Times: Building in Harmony in Bali. And now, Airbnb has selected us as one of their 12 properties in the world for our high standards.
Walk 6 minutes or ride a rented scooter along a tropical river path (and then up 30 steps) to our architect-designed loft-like antique joglo (traditional Javanese teak house). Jazmin, like Passiflora is set in a rice paddy, which we have kept, partially intact, as part of our commitment to this agricultural tradition. Across the rice paddy is our other Passiflora https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/385959. Marguerite, our freshly remodeled house https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/866341 is across the walking path. We have also recently added a shared salt water pool for the use of our guests!
Our area has no car access nor motorbike noise, but many sounds of geckos, roosters, frogs and collared kingfisher birds, while still walking distance from Ubud (25 minutes).
Passiflora is a reclaimed antique joglo brought over timber by timber from Java. Each of my joglos has its own personality and I carefully design every detail to make sure that staying in these transformed traditional structures is a one of a kind experience in luxurious but simple ecological living.
As you walk into Passiflora, you'll be taken by the spacious loft -like feeling (1000 sq. ft. /90 meters square) with the added visual pleasure of antique teak timber beams and carved wood panels. The roof is made of handwoven grass known as "alang-alang" here.
I have combined traditional elements, but the sensibility is modern with an emphasis on comfort. There are no villas in Ubud quite as uniquely in touch with nature as Passiflora and Jazmin.
Read on the daybed on the verandah, have a conversation in the living room then have a nap in the bedroom on the king-sized super comfortable bed overlooking the ever changing landscape of the rice paddies. The kitchen is perfect for cooking: polished concrete countertops and reclaimed wood cabinet doors. At night, the bedroom locks up for privacy and safety, but the living room stays open for maximum connection with nature. You can practice yoga comfortably in so many spots and later bathe under the stars in the sunken tub. Made, Made and Kadek will pamper you with healthy breakfasts of Bali Buda bread, Bali Coffee and our homemade yogurt and jam. No breakfast would be complete without a plate of tropical fruit. I'll leave you my list of my favorite secret spots and restaurants.
Honeymoon couples love Jazmin, however I also love staying in the joglos by myself. Our houses are the only two in Penestanan which are connected to traditional Balinese family temples.
Like Jazmin, this is a truly unique experience for FIT folks who want to be in touch with the Bali of rice farmers in the most natural but still luxurious way! Enjoy!
All my secret spots.. and sources from a ten year + + love affair with Bali. And my beautiful and kind and helpful staff: Sri, Made and Made.
I love meeting our guests and am doubly happy when I see the variety of different kinds of people, who are happy and make our homes their homes. That is your gift to me. I try to come by the first morning.. but I am traveling and building for clients, so quite busy. I am always available via email and SMS as are Sri my right hand, wonderful assistant. And it is nice to know that you have privacy as well. And we have a very complete list of all things wonderful that are must dos.. and a local phone for use of our guests with our numbers in them. Very handy.
Penestanan has become hip... and now has its very own yoga studio, meditation center, approximately 10+ charming restaurants (Indonesian, Japanese, Indian, Raw/Organic, Vegetarian, Vegan) and a cafe and bakery, so you don't even have to get on your motorbike.
We can organize a scooter for you for $5 per day or
you can take an expensive taxi to Ubud $5 per ride.. or you can walk... 20 minutes.. to all things Ubud . You can also hire a car with a driver for about $50 US.
If you'd like a joglo of your own, let us know. :)
Our saltwater pool is for the use of all of our guests. You will find that you will have it all to yourselves most of the time.
Interaction with Guests
Sri or I will try to be by on the first morning of your arrival. I am traveling and working with clients quite a bit, sooo busy. But I am always available via email or SMS.
Penestanan is the hip part of town! Yoga, juices, spas, healthy eating all just far enough away from crowded Ubud.
Scooters are $5 US per day. A car and driver can be about $50 US per day.
But, taxi rides into town or back are expensive. Can be $5 US for a pretty short ride. Walking is a wonderful healthy way to get around.
Other Things to Note
We will pick you up at the airport and it is included if you stay 4 days or more. If not we will happily pick you up as well. The cost is $28 US.
We have the most wonderful guests. Enjoy Jazmin!
Alejandra was a super host! She and her staff have been very helpful and friendly with us throughout our stay.
The house is gorgeous, very big and comfy, well equipped and is extremely charming.
It was a real pleasure to fall asleep surrounded by the soft sounds of the environing nature, and we made friends with some cute gekos, frogs and ducks :)
The house is very close to Bali, though we would recommend that you rent a scooter to Alejandra as it is more convenient to go there.
We would definitely stay again by Alejandra when we go back to Bali
Despite the beautiful photos of this listing, Alejandra's place exceeds expectations- it is unique. We wanted to be walking distance from Ubud but worried it wouldn't be tranquil enough. To our surprise, this home is tucked away in a lovely peaceful corner- a slice of heaven! We didn't hire a scooter or a car and were able to walk to Ubud, into the padi fields, other nearby places of interest, and yet come back to a quiet evening under the stars. It was simply wonderful and greatly convenient! Needless to say, given all the reviews here, Alejandra is a superb host- she is welcoming and super helpful with any questions/need for information you might have. She greeted us and ensured everything was to our satisfaction, and I only wish we could have spend more time there. All the service provided, from drivers to breakfast and cleaning couldn't have been more impeccable. Moreover, they couldn't have been friendlier people.
I can't recommend this more highly, and I'm already planning our next trip!
Alejandra, Sri and the rest of the team were wonderful hosts. The villa itself is stunning set in a beautiful and tranquil part of Ubud.
Sri was able to organise a massage for us every morning - which was excellent. She also organised a scooter for us within a few minutes of our arrival.
Would highly recommend.
It was great experience. It felt like I was living in nature. every beautiful details make me happy. Villa located in Penestanan which is lovely place. Alejandra and all staffs were very helpful and kind. I love to visit again with my family.
We spent a good portion of our honeymoon here.
Sri, Made, Made and of course Alejandra made us feel so welcome. They ensure we have a ride getting to location, and every morning greeted us with delicious and fresh breakfast. They are very helpful and kind.
The place was out of this world. It was like a dream being able to stay there and away from the hustle and bustle of the world. Although it is located in the ricefield, you are not far from city centre, restaurant, yoga centre.
Because it is very much open-concept, you will be greeted by little frogs, butterflies, geckos, even fireflies! The experience is exceptional.
The shower experience was great. Because it doesn't have a roof, you can look at the stars or birds as you are taking a shower. Once, it started raining while I was in the shower, what an experience!
Our most value experience was the in-home cooking class. Alejandra and Sri has connected us to the owner of a lovely D'Waroeng, and we fell in love with Balinese spices and food. Kadek, the owner of this warang is a very lovely lady and an exceptional teacher! Thanks so much for introducing us to a new world of spices!
Thank you so much for allowing us stay at the Jasmine. We loved every single moments there.
This is my third stay with Alejandra and I am so happy to report this little paradise gets better and better every year. This time, an amazing pool is located close to the joglo and perfect for a sub soaked afternoon. Thank you Alej!
My husband and I had an amazing 4 night stay at Villa Jazmine on our honeymoon and we loved every second. The villa was AMAZING, the pool was perfect and we really enjoyed the cool bathroom and daybed to read in. The staff were wonderful and the breakfasts were exciting to look forward to each morning. We both had great in-villa massages by the talented Mr. Jampi and went with Kadek and Made for a stunning 3 hour guided walk through the rice fields. We recommend doing both of these things and we highly recommend this villa to couples or families. It was hard to leave and we hope to be back very soon !! Thank you to all the staff for making our honeymoon experience so special :)

About the Host, Alejandra
I am a world wanderer and have lived and designed in many countries. But so far Indonesia, specifically Bali is my favorite.. (12 years and counting). Two years ago my beloved Jaime, who is a psycholgist from Vermont and a passionate meditator, joined me, so now my paradise is much sweeter.
My passion is making spaces a delight for the senses: visually poetic, dream-friendly, a few nice spots for kissing, a simple table for the sharing of food, a comfortable spot for intriguing conversation, a moon viewing corner.
In the last years I've been having a love affair with old 120 year old teak structures from Java called joglos and limasans. I go to Java myself and select the structures in the villages. Then we bring them back and start working on a design that works within the limitations of these extraordinary structures.
If you have a love attack and would like a joglo of your own in Bali... let me know...
we can show you what we are working on...
I'm Argentine-American. Hablemos en español, français, italiano.
