Lovingly Designed to Be in touch with Nature. We were featured in the New York Times: Building in Harmony in Bali. And now, Airbnb has selected us as one of their 12 properties in the world for our high standards. Let us pamper you in the Paddies.
Walk 6 minutes or ride a rented motorbike along a tropical river path (and then up 30 steps) to our second architect designed loft-like antique joglo (traditional Javanese teak house). Jazmin is set in the rice paddies of Penestanan, one rice paddy away from our other home, Passiflora: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/58045 Our village has no car access or car sounds but many sounds of geckos, roosters, frogs and collared kingfisher birds, and it is still walking distance away from Ubud (20 minutes).
Jazmin, like Passiflora is a reclaimed antique joglo brought in timber by timber from Java. Though similar, each of the joglos has its own personality and I have taken care to design every detail ( i am an architectural designer) to make sure that your stay in one these old transformed houses is a one of a kind experience in luxurious, simple, ecological living (read some of the reviews).
And now we have a shared salt water pool for our guests! Yay!
As you walk into Jazmin, you'll be taken by the the super spacious loft -like feel (1000 sq. ft. /90 meters square) with the added pleasure of a antique teak timber roof above your head (25 ft./ 8 meters) and all reclaimed wood panels, carvings and doors! We have re used every board.
The roof is made of handwoven grass. But the sensibility is modern with an emphasis on comfort. There is no villa quite as uniquely in touch with nature as Passiflora and Jazmin in Penestanan.
Read on the daybed on the verandah, have a conversation in the living room then have a nap in the bedroom on the king-sized super comfortable bed overlooking the family temple. The kitchen is perfect for cooking: polished concrete countertops and reclaimed wood cabinet doors. At night, the bedroom locks up for privacy and safety, but the living room stays open for maximum connection with nature. You can practice yoga comfortably in so many spots and later bathe under the stars in the sunken tub. Made and Made will pamper you with healthy breakfasts of our homemade yogurt and fruit or black rice pudding. I'll leave you my list of my favorite secret spots and restaurants. I am also writing up my suggestions for must sees on 3 day stay, a five day stay and a 7 to 10 day stay.
Honeymoon couples love Jazmin, however I also love staying in the joglos by myself and it's also a wonderful experience as a family. We are situated at the end of the path and are protected by Kadek's family in the Balinese compound below. Our homes are the only two in Penestanan rice paddies which are connected to family temples.
Like Passiflora, this is a truly unique experience for FIT folks who want to be in touch with the Bali of rice farmers in the most natural but still luxurious way! Enjoy!
You will have access to our very personal choices of everything we think is absolutely the most interesting, delightful and delicious to experience... and that is ever changing in Ubud... and our amazing staff... Sri, Made and Made.
Interaction with Guests
I love to meet our guests.. and am doubly happy when we have a variety of different kinds of people ... who can make our homes their homes. That is your gift to me. I try to come by the first morning.. but I am traveling and building for clients, so quite busy. I am always available via email and SMS as are Sri my right hand wonderful assistant. And it is nice to know that you have privacy as well, I myself enjoy having privacy when I am traveling as well., And we have a very complete list of all things wonderful!
Our neighborhood, Penestanan, is the Coolest in Ubud now! It's a perfect distance from Ubud (20 minute walk). And we have everything we need here!
You can rent a scooter for $5 per day. If not taxi rides have gotten expensive... $5 to ubud. You may rent a car with a driver for $50 per day.
Other Things to Note
If you'd like a joglo of your own, let us know. :)
Enjoy jazmin as though she were your own house. Sri, Made and Made have the day off on Sunday.
The preetist place I ever stayed . It is made on a bit height . No one can imagine that there could be such a place up there . Alejandra has taken care of every minute details and loved the way instructions she has given . So it made the trip quite simple .
The staff there is very helpful too .
Given a chance I would love to come back and stay there for longer time :)
Surreal and magical jogolo in the middle of paddy fields. Every aspect of the house seems to have been thought of carefully. The photographs are not enough to put across the sheer beauty of this place. A little distance (20 minutes by scooter) from Ubud town this is one of those few remaining silent zones where you'd hear the frogs croak and the birds chirp. And did I tell you about the fireflies! We were received by our host Sri right where the car dropped us. And she made every effort to make us feel welcome even when we overslept and she would be kind enough to drop by 3 times but not wake us! Take care of this place. I have seen very few places which are as beautiful and thoughtfully done. :)
Loved Alejandra's antique joglo house, it was absolutely beautiful and all the details were perfect - a design lovers dream. The house is accessed only by foot, so it is always peaceful. The pool was really lovely, as was the view over the rice field.
I really liked the neighbourhood Penestanan, it was nice to be able to walk to the yoga and cafes but still feel quite remote in a good way.
Would recommend to friends !
My friend and I felt extremely welcomed and well taken care of. The villa itself is a gem and it felt very special staying there. It is located in my favourite part of Ubud - very quiet but close to anything you might need. We especially loved the architectural and decorative features, as well as the swimming pool for when it got hot in the afternoon. We highly recommend choosing this villa as your home away from home in Ubud.
Alejandras place is a wonderful place of an other world. We arrived and Sri, one of our 3 angels pick us up and show us all details at the house, gave us a mobile phone for cennect with us. The interior of the house, the garten - all is magnificent. You can see it, that Alejandra feel the balinese soul ... We've had two careless weeks at this place. Each morning we've got a fresh and healthful breakfast.
If you want to travel to Bali, you must stay at Alejandras house - that's first choice.
We stayed 2 nights at the villa- shd have stayed longer!
Sri received us warmly from the Vespa cafe, and took us on a simple orientation around the neighbourhood having dropped us off at the villa. She's really helpful and responsive. The villa is everything the images promised- and better! Location wise, it seems isolated at first but after a few trips out through the Campuhan steps, one quickly gets used to the walk- and it's a pleasant walk with the sound of running water and smell of fresh air amongst the paid fields. Just remember the flashlight when coming back late at night.
The experience was nothing but amazing. We were picked up at the airport and were welcomed with a beautiful villa. The photos are very accurate, that's why I was already super excited before getting there and when I finally arrived, it was amazing more stunning because of the whole experience: the open space, the sound of nature and how clean everything was. I loved how the villa used Balinese elements throughout the place and it really felt like home immediately. The day bed was so comfortable and I really enjoyed hanging out there in the morning.
Made always asked us what we wanted for breakfast the next day and it was absolutely delicious, we loved the Balinese omelette and Indonesian fried rice. The homemade pineapple jam was awesome too. They were really kind and went out of the way to bring us fruits (mangosteen, durian & dragon fruit) that we really liked and we just pay them afterwards.
Everything was convenient at Jasmine, we were able to rent scooters at $5 a day and able to arrange a driver when we wanted to take day trips, it's cheaper than the local taxis. They even gave us a local mobile which made the trip so much easier whenever we had a question or needed help. Sri is always so friendly and helpful with everything.
The outdoor shower was the highlight, you can see the stars at night and it's such an experience for me especially coming from Canada. We are also surrounded by rice fields so we see fireflies at night and it was nothing short of magical.
We really thoroughly enjoyed our trip in Bali and 7 days was not enough at Jasmine, I will be back for sure next year, there's nowhere else I'd rather stay.

I am an architectural designer and world wanderer. I've lived and designed in lots of countries, but so far Bali is my favorite and I keep staying... 10 years and counting. My passion is making spaces a delight for the senses: visually poetic, dream-friendly, a few nice spots for kissing, a simple table for the sharing of food, a comfortable spot for intriguing conversation, a moon viewing corner.
In the last years I've been having a love affair with old 120 year old teak structures from Java called joglos and limasans. I go to Java myself and select the structures in the villages. Then we bring them back and start working on a design that works within the limitations of these extraordinary structures.
If you have a love attack and would like a joglo of your own in Bali... let me know...
we can show you what we are working on...
