Nestled in a preserved rice paddy of Penestanan, our joglo, (70 year-old reclaimed teak structure from Java), is designed to be in Touch with Nature. The bedroom closes for privacy but the living room is delightfully open. We are in the hip area of town: yoga, cafes, rice-paddy walks & 15 min walk to Ubud. We are off the beaten path and hard to find as there is no direct car access. We STRONGLY advise using our select drivers who know our location & will carry bags the 6 minute walk + 30 steps.
Lovingly Designed to Be in touch with Nature. We were featured in the New York Times: Building in Harmony in Bali.
Walk 6 minutes or ride a rented scooter along a tropical river path (and then up 30 steps) to our architect-designed loft-like antique Joglo (traditional Javanese teak house). Jazmin, like Passiflora is set in a rice paddy, which we have kept, partially intact, as part of our commitment to this ancient agricultural tradition. Across the rice paddy is our other joglo, Passiflora https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/385959. Marguerite, our newest house https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/866341 is across the walking path. Being mindful of water shortages in Ubud, we have a beautiful, recently added, shared salt water pool for the use of guests in our three houses.
Our neighborhood has no car access or noise, but many sounds of geckos, roosters, frogs and collared kingfisher birds, while still walking distance from Ubud (15 minutes). If you are used to a city life which is not in contact with nature, you might love our ecological joglo experience , or find it a little overwhelming.
Jazmin is a reclaimed antique joglo brought over timber by timber from Java. Each of my joglos has its own personality and I carefully design every detail to make sure that staying in these transformed traditional structures is a one of a kind experience in luxurious but simple ecological living.
As you walk into Jazmin, you'll be taken by the spacious loft -like feeling (1000 sq. ft. /90 meters square) with the added visual pleasure of antique teak timber beams and carved wood panels. The roof is made of handwoven grass known as "alang-alang" here.
I have combined traditional elements, but the sensibility is modern with an emphasis on comfort. There are no villas in Ubud quite as uniquely in touch with nature as Passiflora and Jazmin.
Read on the daybed on the verandah, have a conversation in the living room then have a nap in the bedroom on the king-sized super comfortable bed overlooking the ever changing landscape of the rice paddies. The kitchen is perfect for cooking: polished concrete countertops and reclaimed wood cabinet doors. At night, the bedroom locks up for privacy and safety, but the living room stays open for maximum connection with nature. You can practice yoga comfortably in so many spots and later bathe under the stars in the sunken tub. Made and Made will pamper you with healthy breakfasts. Choose either a super thin mushroom or ham and cheese omelette made with the best butter and served with baby potatoes or Balinese black rice pudding or banana pancakes and Bali Buda bread, Bali Coffee and our homemade yogurt and jam. No breakfast would be complete without a plate of tropical fruit.
Our houses are the only two in Penestanan which are connected to traditional Balinese family temples.
Jazmin is a truly unique experience for FIT folks who want to be in touch with the Bali of rice farmers in the most natural but still luxurious way! Enjoy!
All my secret spots.. and sources from a ten year + + love affair with Bali. And my beautiful and kind and helpful staff: Made and Made, Wayan and Putu.
I and am doubly happy when I see the variety of different kinds of people, who are happy and make our homes their homes. That is your gift to me. I am available via email and SMS. And we have a very complete list of all things wonderful that are "must dos", our vey own little map of the neighborhood and of Ubud and a local phone for use of our guests with our numbers in them. A nice touch!
Penestanan has become hip... and now has its very own yoga studio (Intuitive Flow), meditation center, approximately 10+ charming restaurants (Indonesian, Japanese, Indian, Raw/Organic, Vegetarian, Vegan) and a cafe and bakery, so you don't even have to get on your motorbike.
We can organize a scooter for you for $5 per day or you can take an expensive taxi to Ubud $5 per ride.. or you can walk... 20 minutes.. to all things Ubud . You can also hire a car with a driver for about $50 US.
If you'd like a joglo of your own, let us know. :)
Drivers we select will be delighted pick you up at the airport. We recommend this option because they know where we live and are willing to carry bags. Other drivers will not. The cost is 350,00 Rp and can be paid to them directly as they are independent. Our saltwater pool is for the use of all of our guests. You will find that you will have it all to yourselves most of the time.
Other things to note
Our recommended but independent drivers, will be happy to pick you up at the airport. The cost is Rp.350,000, about $ 30 can be paid directly to them. Our village has prohibited Uber, and they are quite insistent. For this reason the cost for transportation is a bit higher.
Our Jazmin villa has fans and a ceiling fan in the bedroom, but no A/C because of the open design of the villa. We have the most wonderful guests. We hope you enjoy your stay at Jazmin!
I am generally available via AirBnb message, email or SMS.
