Lovingly Designed to Be in touch with Nature. We were featured in the New York Times: Building in Harmony in Bali. And now, Airbnb has selected us as one of their 12 properties in the world for our high standards. Let us pamper you in the Paddies.
Walk 6 minutes or ride a rented motorbike along a tropical river path (and then up 30 steps) to our second architect designed loft-like antique joglo (traditional Javanese teak house). Jazmin is set in the rice paddies of Penestanan, one rice paddy away from our other home, Passiflora: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/58045 Our village has no car access or car sounds but many sounds of geckos, roosters, frogs and collared kingfisher birds, and it is still walking distance away from Ubud (20 minutes).
Jazmin, like Passiflora is a reclaimed antique joglo brought in timber by timber from Java. Though similar, each of the joglos has its own personality and I have taken care to design every detail ( i am an architectural designer) to make sure that your stay in one these old transformed houses is a one of a kind experience in luxurious, simple, ecological living (read some of the reviews).
And now we have a shared salt water pool for our guests! Yay!
As you walk into Jazmin, you'll be taken by the the super spacious loft -like feel (1000 sq. ft. /90 meters square) with the added pleasure of a antique teak timber roof above your head (25 ft./ 8 meters) and all reclaimed wood panels, carvings and doors! We have re used every board.
The roof is made of handwoven grass. But the sensibility is modern with an emphasis on comfort. There is no villa quite as uniquely in touch with nature as Passiflora and Jazmin in Penestanan.
Read on the daybed on the verandah, have a conversation in the living room then have a nap in the bedroom on the king-sized super comfortable bed overlooking the family temple. The kitchen is perfect for cooking: polished concrete countertops and reclaimed wood cabinet doors. At night, the bedroom locks up for privacy and safety, but the living room stays open for maximum connection with nature. You can practice yoga comfortably in so many spots and later bathe under the stars in the sunken tub. Made and Made will pamper you with healthy breakfasts of our homemade yogurt and fruit or black rice pudding. I'll leave you my list of my favorite secret spots and restaurants. I am also writing up my suggestions for must sees on 3 day stay, a five day stay and a 7 to 10 day stay.
Honeymoon couples love Jazmin, however I also love staying in the joglos by myself and it's also a wonderful experience as a family. We are situated at the end of the path and are protected by Kadek's family in the Balinese compound below. Our homes are the only two in Penestanan rice paddies which are connected to family temples.
Like Passiflora, this is a truly unique experience for FIT folks who want to be in touch with the Bali of rice farmers in the most natural but still luxurious way! Enjoy!
You will have access to our very personal choices of everything we think is absolutely the most interesting, delightful and delicious to experience... and that is ever changing in Ubud... and our amazing staff... Sri, Made and Made.
Interaction with Guests
I love to meet our guests.. and am doubly happy when we have a variety of different kinds of people ... who can make our homes their homes. That is your gift to me. I try to come by the first morning.. but I am traveling and building for clients, so quite busy. I am always available via email and SMS as are Sri my right hand wonderful assistant. And it is nice to know that you have privacy as well, I myself enjoy having privacy when I am traveling as well., And we have a very complete list of all things wonderful!
Our neighborhood, Penestanan, is the Coolest in Ubud now! It's a perfect distance from Ubud (20 minute walk). And we have everything we need here!
You can rent a scooter for $5 per day. If not taxi rides have gotten expensive... $5 to ubud. You may rent a car with a driver for $50 per day.
Other Things to Note
If you'd like a joglo of your own, let us know. :)
Enjoy jazmin as though she were your own house. Sri, Made and Made have the day off on Sunday.
Wonderful stay at this splendid balinese villa! We spent the most relaxing 3 days at this house, and had even the chance to experience the quietness of Nyepi day, the balinese new year.
Communication was flawless and the welcome and service during the stay was perfect as well.
Alejandra and her staff made us feel extremely welcome. Every detail was attended to, nothing out of place, no request too hard. The house itself is lovely, and it is clear that a lot of thought and care has been put into its design and upkeep. We both had a fantastic time here, and would highly recommend Alejandra's place. An excellent location to relax, unwind and enjoy Ubud's natural environment in peace.
Alejandra's house was absolutely beautiful - better than the pictures! I love the indoor outdoor space and every detail is perfectly chosen. It is private and very picturesque amongst the rice paddies. We spent 3 lovely days lounging about, exploring the area (everything is walking distance)' visiting Alej's recommended restaurants, and just relaxing. I highly recommend this unique property and hope to go back sometime soon!
Great space - great location. It was awesome to escape into this beautiful home for 5 days out of our trip in Bali. It's really close to everything but feels so secluded. Ubud was a really special place and being in this home with nature so close really added another element. Alejandra was great as well. The breakfast every morning was awesome. Overall it was a great experience, I would recommended this place over a standard villa or hotel - it's very unique and serene.
Very beautiful property and I love how serene the surrounding was. We should have stayed for another few nights but due to tight timeline we only stayed for a night and bought back dinner from nuris to enjoy the villa more.
We felt well taken care of and thank you so much for sharing your beautiful villa.
The preetist place I ever stayed . It is made on a bit height . No one can imagine that there could be such a place up there . Alejandra has taken care of every minute details and loved the way instructions she has given . So it made the trip quite simple .
The staff there is very helpful too .
Given a chance I would love to come back and stay there for longer time :)
Surreal and magical jogolo in the middle of paddy fields. Every aspect of the house seems to have been thought of carefully. The photographs are not enough to put across the sheer beauty of this place. A little distance (20 minutes by scooter) from Ubud town this is one of those few remaining silent zones where you'd hear the frogs croak and the birds chirp. And did I tell you about the fireflies! We were received by our host Sri right where the car dropped us. And she made every effort to make us feel welcome even when we overslept and she would be kind enough to drop by 3 times but not wake us! Take care of this place. I have seen very few places which are as beautiful and thoughtfully done. :)

I am a world wanderer and have lived and designed in many countries. But so far Indonesia, specifically Bali is my favorite.. (12 years and counting). Two years ago my beloved Jaime, who is a psycholgist from Vermont and a passionate meditator, joined me, so now my paradise is much sweeter.
My passion is making spaces a delight for the senses: visually poetic, dream-friendly, a few nice spots for kissing, a simple table for the sharing of food, a comfortable spot for intriguing conversation, a moon viewing corner.
In the last years I've been having a love affair with old 120 year old teak structures from Java called joglos and limasans. I go to Java myself and select the structures in the villages. Then we bring them back and start working on a design that works within the limitations of these extraordinary structures.
If you have a love attack and would like a joglo of your own in Bali... let me know...
we can show you what we are working on...
