Lovingly Designed to Be in touch with Nature. We were featured in the New York Times: Building in Harmony in Bali. And now, Airbnb has selected us as one of their 12 properties in the world for our high standards. Let us pamper you in the Paddies.

The Space

Walk 6 minutes or ride a rented motorbike along a tropical river path (and then up 30 steps) to our second architect designed loft-like antique joglo (traditional javanese teak house). Passiflora is set in the rice paddies of Penestanan, one rice paddy away from our other home, Passiflora: Our village has no car access or car sounds but many sounds of geckos, roosters, frogs and collared kingfisher birds, and it is still walking distance away from Ubud (20 minutes).

Jazmin, like Passiflora is a reclaimed antique joglo brought in timber by timber from Java. Though similar, each of the joglos has its own personality and I have taken care to design every detail to make sure it is the ultimate in a unique indoor /outdoor living experience ( I am an architectural designer). Staying in these old transformed houses is a one of a kind experience in luxurious, simple, ecological living (read some of the reviews).

As you walk into Jazmin, you'll be taken by the the super spacious loft -like feel (1000 sq. ft. /90 meters square) with the added pleasure of a antique teak timber roof above your head (25 ft./ 8 meters) and all reclaimed wood panels, carvings and doors! We have re used every board.
The roof is made of handwoven grass. But the sensibility is modern with an emphasis on comfort. There is no villa quite as uniquely in touch with nature as Passiflora and Jazmin in Penestanan.

Read on the daybed on the verandah, have a conversation in the living room then have a nap in the bedroom on the king-sized super comfortable bed overlooking the family temple. The kitchen is perfect for cooking: polished concrete countertops and reclaimed wood cabinet doors. At night, the bedroom locks up for privacy and safety, but the living room stays open for maximum connection with nature. You can practice yoga comfortably in so many spots and later bathe under the stars in the sunken tub. Made and Made will pamper you with healthy breakfasts of our homemade yogurt and fruit or black rice pudding. I'll leave you my list of my favorite secret spots and restaurants. I am also writing up my suggestions for must sees on 3 day stay, a five day stay and a 7 to 10 day stay.

Honeymoon couples love Jazmin, however I also love staying in the joglos by myself and it's also a wonderful experience as a family. We are situated at the end of the path and are protected by Kadek's family in the Balinese compound below. Our homes are the only two in Penestanan rice paddies which are connected to family temples.

Like Passiflora, this is a truly unique experience for FIT folks who want to be in touch with the Bali of rice farmers in the most natural but still luxurious way! Enjoy!

  • This is a wonderful villa like no others. It's basic but oozes with charm. Located right in the middle of paddy fields, with frogs and fireflies and stars as your company. It's not reccomanded to people who required windows and doors with locks, people who can't stand bugs and insects and people who are not comfortable with walking on a narrow footpath. For all the others, enjoy and chilled. You will love this place and wish to stay longer. Do ask Made to buy you the local sweet alcohol called Brem. It's delocious and if you want it strong, just add vodka. Breakfast and Wifi and pick up is included. Thank you Made and Made, for being so plasants.

  • I cannot say enough great things about Jazmin! Nestled in between rice paddies in the area of Penestanan, you are in walking distance to the cafes Yellow Flower and Alchemy, and a great yoga studio, Intuitive Flow. The architecture is just beautiful. It's the perfect space to just do your thing. It's also super quiet and relaxing, even though you are pretty close to the centre of Ubud. I would definitely recommended getting around on a scooter though, if that's your thing. The staff were lovely and accommodating, and they made us a delicious breakfast every morning. I will definitely come back, in fact I can't wait to. Ubud is a magical place that can open up a world of experiences if you just let it.

  • Alej, Sri and the 'family' have created the perfect oasis in their Natural Villa! We were so lucky to experience this and encounter paradise first-hand. From the thoughtful touches of homemade breakfasts of fresh tropical fruits (or anything else you desire - Made and Made would help you organise supplies you need) to the amazing open-plan layout of the beautiful, yet functional villa, everything was perfect! We enjoyed waking up to the peaceful serenity of the area, surrounded by local rice paddies, then lazing on the large day-beds in the afternoon sun, whilst being enchanted by the rhythmic sounds of balinese drums in the vacinity - this definitely helped us recharge and get away from the day-to-day hustle of city life!
In the evening, the open air bath was perfect to star gaze to a few glasses of wine, while the villa was located very handily to some amazing local cafes serving amazingly tasty organic produce and delicious smoothies/fresh juices. The eanut butter and coconut pancakes at Lala Lili were the best I've ever had!
    Can't wait to come back!

  • My wife and I had a lovely time in the villa and thought it was beautiful.
The Villa is located in wonderful surroundings and is even more stunning than the photos suggest.
Alejandra met us on our first day and we had a nice chat. We were supplied with a mobile phone if we needed to contact anyone in emergency or to book trips, this was very helpful.
The breakfasts were amazing with pancakes and large selection of fruit, we were very well looked after by Sri, Made and Made.
The location is great and only a few fields away from many warungs and massage/yoga places, we especially loved the yellow flower café which we visited many times as it was so good.
I would not hesitate in staying here again as it was so nice and located in a wonderful area.
Many thanks to Alejandra, Sri, Made and Made for making our stay so wonderful.

  • What a very special experience it is to stay at Alej's Jazmin & Passiflora in the rice paddies of Penestanan. If you love something different - style, architecture, antiques, interior design, space and tranquility in a beautiful tropical setting, the joglos are for you. So very typical of the Balinese, Sri, Made & Made are warm and kind and add to the pleasure of the stay. The local warungs in the rainforest serve delicious Indonesian meals - all a short stroll away. Suggest 5 nights as a minimum stay. Thank you Alej for such a treat and for taking the time to say hello.

  • We spent an incredible 11 days in this villa and never wanted to leave. We did quite a bit of exploring around the Ubud area and can now say that this was our favorite neighborhood. It is quiet and much less busy than most other areas which was perfect for us. We loved eating at the Yellow Flower and Lala Lilly's, which are 100m and 200m away. The best yoga studio in Ubud is next to the Yellow Flower -- Chiara and Linda are amazing teachers. Alejandra is the perfect host and in addition to being very responsive, is a lovely person -- we enjoyed our conversations with her very much. Sri and the Made's were always there if we needed something and their breakfasts were fantastic. We can't wait to go back.

  • My parents and I had a fantastic stay at Alej's villa! Such a beautiful place to bliss out in the rice fields for a week. The design of the villa is stunning - a must-see for anyone interested in interior design or architecture. The villa is spacious, comfortable beds, wifi, an amazing hot shower. We were treated to a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit and homemade jam every day. The walk to Bintang Supermarket or the bottom of the Campuan steps is about 10 minutes through the rice fields, where you can easily get transport into the centre of Ubud (Rp. 30,000 max). There are cooking facilities at the villa but also some fantastic warungs nearby. I would love to stay here again and I think my parents are already planning their next trip!

  • Perfect piece of heaven. The space could not be more romantic and cozy. Alejandra and her wonderful staff, Sri, Made and Made are the most cordial and thoughtful hosts. Clear simple lines and antique building material make this home unique and inviting. Waking up in green rice paddies with colorful tropical foliage is superb. Can't wait to go back to Ubud again. This place is a treasure.

I am an architectural designer and world wanderer. I've lived and designed in lots of countries, but so far Bali is my favorite and I keep staying... 10 years and counting. My passion is making spaces a delight for the senses: visually poetic, dream-friendly, a few nice spots for kissing, a simple table for the sharing of food, a comfortable spot for intriguing conversation, a moon viewing corner. In the last years I've been having a love affair with old 120 year old teak structures from Java called joglos and limasans. I go to Java myself and select the structures in the villages. Then we bring them back and start working on a design that works within the limitations of these extraordinary structures. If you have a love attack and would like a joglo of your own in Bali... let me know... we can show you what we are working on... I'm Argentine-American. Hablemos en español, français, italiano.
