About this listing
A surprisingly large suite with a spectacular view of the city, a handsome cat and two great hosts that love to cook and who will surely make you feel right at home. Suitable for up to two people. Very central, close to downtown and Skytrain routes.
We're your hosts, Darcy and Steffi. We actually met on Airbnb - how cool is that? I have lived in Vancouver my entire life, I love to cook, I enjoy traveling and meeting new people, and I'm a pretty decent artist depending on how much beer I've had to drink. Steffi hails from Berlin, Germany, has the travel bug as well and loves cheese, potatoes, chocolates, unicorns and David Hasslehoff. Typical German, really. We're very different people but we're a great team like maple syrup and bratwurst (hey, don't knock it till ya try it). We both look forward to inviting you into our home and allowing you to live like a local. But unlike Steffi, you will actually have to leave after your stay expires. Sorry.
Now that we've been formally introduced, let us welcome you to our humble abode. It is an incredibly spacious corner suite overlooking the city, water and mountains. Our space is bathed in natural sunlight from the huge windows in almost every room that give us over 180 degrees of beauty with a bird's eye view. You won't even have to leave the house before you start snapping pictures of Vancouver.
The house is filled with custom furniture, lush plants and lively illustrative artwork. The space is very modern yet comfortable, tastefully decorated but full of character (I'm looking at you, moose head). And who can resist the advances of the handsome Batman - our fluffy feline with the softest fur in town.
Your bedroom comes equipped with keyed access, a very comfortable queen-sized bed with lots of pillows, fresh linens, a Bluetooth stereo, a wall-sized mirror and plenty of storage. As well, there is a small office table to set up your laptop but you might have a hard time getting any work done with the view outside your window! You also get access to your own bathroom during your stay. It is fully equipped with a stand-up shower, fresh towels, a full compliment of toiletries and a delightful book about poop. Should anything run out, just say the word and we'll have it restocked for you.
As I'm very passionate about cooking, our kitchen is very well equipped for almost any culinary adventure you can dream of. However, being Vancouver coffee-snobs, we don't own a common drip coffee machine. We grind our own beans and use an espresso machine, like God intended. If you're interested, I'll show you how to use it or the much easier-to-handle french press. Or fire up the kettle and help yourself to tea! There's plenty of space both inside and outside of the fridge for your food items and you're welcome to borrow the little things like condiments, oils and spices.
PLEASE NOTE - the prices to board fluctuates depending on the season. Regular prices are $75/night but the prices do rise upwards of $85-90/night in the summer peak season. For the most accurate calculation on the total price, begin the booking process for the dates you want. Before you follow through with the payment, it will show you the total cost.
The whole place is yours to enjoy! The only areas off-limits are our bedroom and the office.
Feel free to kick back in the living room and watch Netflix on our 50 incher. We have both the Canadian and American feeds so there are plenty of viewing options.
En-suite laundry is available right outside your bedroom door in the hallway closet. Free to use!
Don't forget about the pool/hot tub/sauna downstairs! You can access it at the base of the north tower with the same key fob that grants access into our place.
If you need parking, please alert us well in advance and we'll see if we can secure a spot during your stay, though it will cost extra.
Interaction with Guests
We love to interact with our guests but we're not overbearing. Occasionally, we'll play board games or watch TV and you're always more than welcome to join us. Catan players are plus! Although we are more comfortable with people who are lively and social, we do respect and understand if you just want your privacy too.
The area is incredibly central with great access to transit in every direction. We're very close to downtown but far enough away that you won't be kept up at night from the noise of a wild Friday night. You can find a plethora of amenities nearby from an array of shops both big and small. For food, you have Safeway, Save-On Foods, Kin's Market (fruits and vegtables), Whole Foods (aka Whole Paycheque) and an overwhelming number of restaurants and other fast foods options. If you're looking to whet your whistle, we have two cold beer and wine stores nearby (one is dangerously close, behind our building in City Square) and a government liquor store if you wanna buy it warm and save a few bucks. Of course, there is also a bar just down the street called Rogue with 30 beers on tap! We're actually also right beside what has become known as the brewery district in Vancouver. There are literally 7 microbreweries within stumbling distance, so pack an extra liver. For entertainment, there's a comedy club just up the street, a couple of dance clubs nearby and by-donation flamenco performances a few blocks away too. Opa!
Getting around via public transportation from our spot couldn't be more convenient. The Canada Line Skytrain has your north/south options covered. This will take you downtown or to waterfront if you want to grab the Seabus to North Vancouver. It can also shuttle you to and from the YVR Airport in less than 30 minutes. The long accordion bus that you will see on Broadway is called the 99 B-Line and will cover your east/west destinations. West from here, you'll find Granville Island, Kitsilano, the Spanish Banks and UBC. Heading East will take you to the bustling Main Street shopping corridor and nightlife of Commercial Drive. If necessary, there is also a cab stand right at the corner of Cambie and Broadway and if you're a member of Car2Go or ZipCar, we have those car sharing programs here in Vancouver too!
Since most of our guests use public transit, we will be providing you with your own Compass Card that grants you access to the bus and opens fare gates at the stations. You can electronically load money onto the card and then simply tap it on the bus or at one of the fare gates when you enter or exit them. We will provide you with up to two Compass Cards with a complimentary $5 pre-loaded on them to cover your first couple of trips. When you need to load more money onto your card, just refill it at one of the machines at the Skytrain station with cash, credit or debit. If you need assistance, ask a Translink staff member for help.
Other Things to Note
We are now offering a free meal once a week to our guests who stay one week or more. We're flexible with times, styles and dietary restrictions. I have my own recipes but if you want something in particular, let me know and I'll do my best. I'm always up for a challenge! We have lots of kitchen toys (deep fryer, pasta roller, waffle iron, griddle, etc.) so there isn't much I can't make!
Guests are allowed over! We want you to feel at home.
You're welcome to use all of our space except for the office and, of course, our bedroom.
Do not use my computer - if you need anything printed, please ask.
No illegal downloading using our internet connection. Local fines cost upwards of $5000 if caught.
Put dirty dishes away in the dishwasher or wash by hand if necessary.
Do not leave wet clothes in the washer or dryer.
If you lose the electronic key fobs for the building and our suite, a $200 replacement fee will be issued.
We have not issued a damage deposit but if you break or damage anything, you must arrange to have it fixed BEFORE your tenancy expires.
Please do not feed our cat, Batman, without permission. Otherwise we will be forced to change his name to Fatman.
Please keep your bedroom door closed so that Batman doesn't go in. One less room that we have to worry about removing his hair from! Plus he'll most likely find some plastic bags in your room and chew it up. He's weird like that.
I am a Vancouverite, born and raised - now 34 years of age. I love to explore my own city and take others along for the journey. I work very hard running my own business but I also like to find some time to kick back and relax, take the occasional hike, cook a fancy dinner or get out for a night of fun with some friends. You'll find I'm a very honest and social guy, and I'm always excited to meet new people. I'd rather have music on than the television, but I always have time to watch my hockey team. Go Canucks! I'm fairly fashionable (you'll often see me sporting a tie even though I can dress however I want for work) and I have an unhealthy obsession with hats. I love beer, plants, art and I'm not sure what I'd do without my cat, Batman. I'm in a very loving relationship with my girlfriend, Steffi, who now lives with me. She's the most amazing girl I've ever met in my life and I know you'll like her (almost) as much as I do.
I host quite frequently using Airbnb but I've also had a couple of pleasant experiences as a guest in other peoples houses with this service too. But whether you are staying here in Vancouver with me or I'm shacking up at your humble abode, I know we'll get along, share stories and have a good time. Cheers!
