PERFECT FOR FAMILIES AND CHILDREN
The Island of Baleal was home to an ancient fishing community dedicated to whale hunting (hence the name – Baleal = home to whales). It has a number of beaches, is very safe for children and quite exceptional for the practice of nautical sports, such as surf, windsurf, paddle, scuba diving, fishing, etc. The Boating Beach (Praia dos Barcos) deserves a special visit. It receives the local fishermen every morning and we can purchase and take home freshly caught fish.
The Sunset House (a casa do Pôr do Sol) comprises 6 bedrooms, a large living room, a dining room, two bathrooms (one in the exterior), kitchen and laundry facilities, satellite television and internet. Facing to the west, a large patio overlooking the sea represents a warm invitation for a drink whilst watching a fabulous sunset, different every day and never the same as the previous day.
At the end of the day, with the sea only a few metres away, one can fall asleep to the sound of waves hitting the rocks.
In Peniche, the city closest to Baleal (3 km.), there are various types of commerce and services: supermarkets, hypermarkets, vegetable shops, shops dedicated to surf, golf, fashion, pharmaceutical products, as well as doctors, hospitals, banks and police.
In Ferrel, 2 kms to the north, we can also find commercial facilities, such as bread and pastry shops, minimarkets, banking services (including electronic facilities) pharmacies, etc.
Approximately 10 kms to the north is situated the Praia D El Rey golf course, undoubtedly one of the most spectacular golf course in Europe. It is situated in a unique locality, set among dunes and pine forests and allows for spectacular views over the Atlantic.
Some 20 kms to the west, we have the Island of Berlenga (Ilha da Berlenga), a natural reserve of unique and indescribable beauty.
Animals are not allowed.
Please don't smoke inside the house. If you really, really need to smoke do it on the terrace.
Please don't leave the heating working when you're not at home. It's an absurd energy and money waste.
Please don't play with the fishing rods. They are very old and have for me a huge sentimental value as a memory of my family.
It is strictly prohibited to use the fireplace to cook. There is a very nice barbecue outside.
Loosing the key implies the payment of 20€.
Check in and Check out are flexible and adjustable to your flights, unless there are other hosts checking in on the same day.
Baleal Island is a wonderful place ! And living in Inês' house made our three weeks stay an unforgettable experience !
The place is effectively charming. It is spacious and very well situated being a one minute walk to an exquisite beach and the ocean being right in front of the house so you can dream hearing the waves crash in the cliffs or dine with a marvelous sunset.
Our two little girls loved the place and Inês even had toys and books for them. The house is fully equipped (particularly the kitchen !) and you can call Inês if there's anything, she'll make sure that everything is at your convenience.
We REALLY REALLY enjoyed our stay there and will come back someday, that's for sure.
Inês is very welcoming and will certainly be devoted to your well being during all your stay. She is awesome !
Thank you so much Inês !
We spent (all 6 of us) a really good week in Ines's house in Baleal !!! The house is big and clean and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Ines was very nice and welcoming and gave us lots of advices about Baleal and its area. I would recommend you to stay here :)
Charing hostess who explained everything extremely well. This is a delightful house which makes one feel at home from the start. It is well equipped and has a wonderful view of the sea only yard away. you can go surfing 3 minutes walk for the font door with a choice of two great beaches. Our son spent a very happy month here a year ago, a week with us, and we were very happy to return.
We cannot say enough good things about our stay in Baleal and our experience with Ines. The day we arrived we got very lost and we ended up arriving at the house much later then we anticipated. Ines was there with a smile to welcome us and show us around the property. We later found out that it was her Birthday! Thank you for waiting around for us on your Birthday Ines! We loved hearing Ines's stories about coming to this house as a child. Hearing the history of this home made our experience that much more special.
We stayed in this house with 2 families; one with 3 older children and one with a baby and toddler. It was the perfect space for us! It had everything we needed including dishes, pots and pans, beach towels and toys and 2 warm showers for after a day catching sun and surfing on the beach.
The location of Ines's home is ideal! Viewing the sunset over the ocean every night from the front yard was magical and being a minute walk to the beach out the back gate was awesome!
If you are looking for a place to get away from it all and have a fun family beach holiday this is the place for you!
We had a wonderful time at this charming family beach house, which feels like a proper home away from home, thanks to its fully stocked kitchen and dining room. The views from the place are stunning -- with sunsets to remember and plenty of natural light throughout the house. Falling asleep to the sounds of the waves is one of the most relaxing things to experience at Baleal, but the overall relaxed pace of life here (in the calmer months) and simplicity of activities (walk, swim, surf and eat) will have most guests feeling calmer within hours. Everything we needed was provided (including beach towels) and Inês and her husband are full of local knowledge and great advice. Her love for the place and family's history with the house is evident throughout -- you'll feel the same way too.
Many thanks for you kind review.
It was a really pleasure to welcome you and your family at my house.
Thank you for leaving everything so clean and tidy.
The suggestion of the high chair for kids is great, I do not remember because I have no children. But it is already solved.
I hope you can return next year..
All the best,
We had a wonderful time in Baleal in this family house at 3 couples + children. The location is perfect, the island is a tiny little paradise. The house is facing the sea, the berlengas islands and peniche, and you can check the other side (and surf breaks) of the island from the garden, down the street. Nice restaurants nearby, lots of surfing and nice beaches, supermarkets at a 5mn car ride.
The house is big, there is everything you need in the kitchen, you can sense this is a place where people actually live and spend time, which gives a good vibe to it in our opinion.
Really nice place, especially for surfers with all the breaks around, definitely recommand it.
We have been to Ines's house 6 friends for a week and had a wonderful time. Ines and her husband are great hosts. They helped on every possible thing they could help us. The house has everything you need and we have been fascinated of the great view and the ocean sound that we fall asleep to every night. If we ever come back to Peniche, I would chose nowehere but Ines's house to stay. Thanks for everything...
PS: Trust her husband on restaurant advices and you will have the best food of your life :)
I am Inês a 36 years old girl from Lisbon. I'm going to Baleal since I was born, my parents and my grandparents did the same. Baleal is my "oxygen pump" and what I most like to do is going to the beach and sunbathing. I am also a fan of crafts, painting, fabrics, ceramics and wood. I work in conservation and restoration of painted wood sculpture and had the privilege to participate in the recovery of the altarpiece of the Sto Estevão chapel, in Baleal. A visit not to be missed!
I am happy to give you a warm welcome in the most beautiful beach in Portugal.
