The Space

The guest suite is made up of a large bedroom with two twin beds, dressers and a closet, plus a sitting room with a fridge, coffee maker, toaster oven and griddle, and a full bath -- this is all your private space on the fourth floor of my house. I live on the other three floors. I only take one guest (or one party of two guests) at a time, so you will have this top floor all to yourself and I (and my pets) will be the only other person in the house. You'll get a key to the house and a parking pass.

There is strong wi-fi throughout the house. Nice cotton sheets, fluffy towels and basic toiletries are provided. I have two dogs and two cats who love attention.

NB: Guest suite is on the fourth floor of my house. Lots of stairs!

Please ask any questions/introduce yourself before booking and please note the 4:30 PM check in time and 8:00 AM check out time.

A cold vegetarian breakfast with hot coffee and tea is available for $10.00 per person per day. If you want breakfast, please let me know when you make your reservation and I will add it to the reservation cost (using the "special offer" feature).

I live right downtown and the bus station (Peter Pan/Greyhound) and train station (Amtrak) are only a few blocks away. I can often pick guests up at the bus or train stations. Bradley International Airport is about a 20 minute drive.

Springfield is a great mid-way stop between Boston (90 minutes away) and NYC (2.5 hours away by car). If you like history, Historic Deerfield is a 40 minute drive, Brimfield is about 40 minutes (figure on a longer drive during the Antiques Fair), Emily Dickinson's house is in nearby Amherst, MA (40 minute drive), Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe's homes are about 30 minutes away in Hartford, and there are several smaller house museums in the immediate area. Springfield is about an hour from the Berkshires.

This is a great place to stay if you're visiting college students at WNEU (15 minute drive), AIC (5 minute drive), Springfield College (10 minute drive), Elms (15 minute drive), Trinity or St. Joseph's (35 minute drive), U of Hartford (45 minute drive), UMass (45 minute drive), Mt. Holyoke (30 minute drive), Hampshire College (40 minute drive), or Smith (30 minute drive).

Guest Access

Guests have an entire floor with bedroom, sitting room, private bathroom, and mini-kitchen (fridge and microwave).

Interaction with Guests

I'm happy to visit with guests or give them their privacy, as they prefer.

The Neighborhood

Vibrant diverse neighborhood. Next to Springfield Museums complex.

Getting around

Ten minute walk to Peter Pan/PVTA bus station and Amtrak train station. House is right downtown close to all amenities.

  • My friend and I loved staying at Erica's beautiful townhouse. We wish we could have stayed longer! Erica was lovely and showed us around once we got there. We had the entire top floor of her house, including our own living room!
She was very helpful with tips for the area and we loved meeting her cats and dogs who were all SO SWEET! Claudette the cat will give you very loving head-butts.
Erica has an incredible sense of design - her house was decorated with amazing antiques, fabrics and wall papers. You can see that she puts a lot of time, effort and care into her home.
She is on a an absolutely beautiful historic street in Springfield close to some nearby restaurants.
We were staying in Springfield because we were doing Brimfield Antiques fair which was about a 35 minute drive away. Perfect location to get to the fair.
We would recommend staying here if you're in the area.

  • Erica was a perfectly gracious host. The room was clean and in order. The bathroom had heated towel racks, which are always a plus. The two cats were friendly. She even let me use her home printer for a document I needed to present at a conference. Overall I would say five out of five stars.

  • I enjoyed my stay at Erica Walch's B&B. Her Victorian townhouse is an authentic 19th century gem, located conveniently close to downtown Springfield, on a lovely street of Victorian townhouses. The suite was comfortable and spacious, and I found Erica very accommodating and helpful throughout.
