Listing highlights
Covered patio with fire pit
A covered patio with rocking chairs and a fire pit, tucked into the woods for a quiet evening.
Handcrafted details, spotless space
Guests describe a clean, comfortable cabin with custom woodwork and blacksmith-forged hardware.
Welcome to the Niche, crafted and forged to preserve your memories. The many custom touches in this space echo our wish for your experience here: beautiful, unique, and unforgettable. As you relax under the covered patio, I hope you find the peaceful time away you're searching for.
The Niche is a cozy return after your day of swimming, hiking, skiing, or other recreational fun here in the White Mountains. You’ll have no shortage of activities to occupy your stay.
The space
The lower level has a comfortable living and dining area and a full kitchen outfitted with basic essentials for cooking and dining. Also on the first level you'll find a full bath with a walk in shower.
The upper level is divided into two sleeping spaces with privacy curtains to separate the two. One side has a King bed, while the other has a Queen. (The stairs to the loft are steep. If your mobility is impaired, the Niche may not be the best option. Please refer to the pictures).
Enjoy the view of the surrounding woods from rocking chairs on the covered patio, or light a fire in the fire pit. Our less traveled country road provides an peaceful walk, should you be so inclined. Near to the Niche is my newly built and finely crafted cabin called the Mountain Nook. It is visible from the Niche, yet both cabins are still surrounded by a woods buffer.
Other things to note
*Some of the surrounding woods have recently been logged. The adjoining property will be putting in a driveway and making improvements to that lot. By fall of 2026, that dirt construction will be finished. The Niche is still surrounded by woods, but for a short time, the landscape on the other lot is in process.
* If you are coming with a pet, please add the pet to the reservation and let the host know.
*No smoking inside.
*There is an outdoor surveillance camera. It is installed under the porch roof and aimed towards the parking area. The purpose of this camera is solely to monitor when guests arrive and leave as well to have a watchful eye if someone unauthorized comes onto the property. Please know that your usage of the porch and the interior of the Niche is completely private, for you only. There is no surveillance in those areas. If this is a problem in any way, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your understanding. My goal is to keep the Niche safe and used appropriately so that all guests can enjoy its magic.
Cheers!

Hikes / Natural Areas
Smarts Brook is a natural area along Route 49, with flat trails which will take you beside a river and through picturesque forest. This is a common area for your hosts when we need quick, accessible time outdoors. Trailhead is about five minutes from the Niche. (Easy)
Welch-Dickey Loop Trail is one of our all time favorite hikes. It has some steep sections, but the views are incredible for its 4.1 mile distance. When you break out of the trees, you will reach “The Ledges,” your first viewpoint. After that, you will go on to summit Mt. Welch, then Mt. Dickey, before making your descent. If you’re looking for a shorter hike, you can turn around at the Ledges. This is still a beautiful and fulfilling hike, and only 2.6 miles. The trailhead is about ten minutes from the Niche. (Intermediate)
Route 49, if you continue toward Waterville Valley, is dotted with pull-off spots where you can park your car and walk through the trees to the Mad River to swim or eat lunch beside the water.
Mad River Coffee House is a beloved coffee shop for locals, and they have the best breakfast sandwiches around. They’re also only about five minutes away, so you can easily call an order for pick-up and eat it at the Niche, or stop in for a pick-me-up on your way out and about.
JL Sullivans is our local Irish pub, another favorite spot for locals. They serve delicious and hearty fare and occasionally host live music as well. A quick two minute jaunt down the road.
