Casa Ira Rosa is situated in the mountains of Monteverde just a few minutes walk to the world famous Monteverde Reserve. This peaceful retreat, is nestled within the misty canopy and offers a distinct log cabin feel.
The house has a fully equipped kitchen, 2 living room areas and a porch! Great for families! It has 3 bedrooms, two with 1 double bed and one with a single bed. The house is big enough to sleep up to 7 people, the extra sleeping in sofa beds. We can provide extra sheets and pillows in this case.
Casa Ira Rosa shares the property with another house and a little cabina. Please feel free to walk around the property, talk to the owners (my parents and me) who live in the property and say hi to our pets, Yoda, Tango, and Lulu (all friendly dogs).
Interaction with Guests
Although I am not always around, my parents who own the house live next door. They are always happy to receive guest and invite them to a cup of coffee when they are home, or practice some Spanish. Give us a call!
The nearest shopping center ("downtown" Santa Elena) is about 3 miles away from the house. Along the way to Santa Elena you can find all kinds of restaurants, shops and information offices.
The Monteverde Reserve entrance, is only 10 to 15 minutes walking from the house (about 800 meters). The best hikes are very early in the morning, between 5 and 6:30 am, or in the evenings after 4 pm, to observe birds. The Reserve is open from 7 am to 3 pm .
A bus runs from 6 am to 4 pm between Monteverde and Santa Elena and back. You will find a bus schedule in the house once you are there.
Taxi service between Santa Elena - Monteverde costs about $ 8, one way.

Casa Ira Rosa is a very special home in a very special place. Ira Rosa is a tree that quetzal's like and we spotted some in the neighborhood. We were welcomed with warm banana bread and very friendly Ronaldo who built the cabin. It was immaculate and perfect for Monteverde.
Gabriela made us feel very welcome. We arrived several hours later than planned due to the bumpy dirt road leading up the mountain. Gabriela left all the lights on for us, which helped us find the secluded house on our first try. She came out to greet us upon our arrival so we were certain we were in the right place. Furthermore she baked us a loaf of fresh banana bread to enjoy during our visit. The home was clean and well stocked with extra blankets and plenty of towels for our group. She also left a very handy binder and guest book that helped us decide which activities and restaurants to patronize during our stay.
The house is very well located and getting there was easy thanks to Gabriela's help. The house itself is beautiful and received a very warm welcome by Rolando.
Beautiful property and house! The description and photos were an accurate representation. Gabby and her family were extremely nice. The coffee & banana bread were not only a pleasant surprise but a very nice gesture. We loved our stay here.
My girlfriend and I stayed at Casa Ira Rosa for 4 nights and we loved it. Gaby and her family were very welcoming (we were delighted by a homemade banana bread). Gaby was very responsive prior and during our stay. Gaby arranged for transport from SJO. Fellow travellers should note however that Casa Ira Rosa is located about 5-7km away from Santa Elena, ie a short 10-15min taxi ride (4,000 colones) or a bit of a hike (40-60min) and should consider bringing a couple warm/cozy sweaters - it gets pretty chilly at night seeing that it is a rainforest after all.
Nus avons été bien reçu par le père de Gabriella qui nous a même offert un délicieux pain aux bananes que nous avons dégusté avec délice. La région est magnifique et la maison est belle.
Gabriella and her family were very helpful and friendly hosts. We found a delicious homemade loaf of banana bread waiting for us and the property was beautiful.
I had a light jacket and a rain jacket and used both during our time in Monteverde especially during a hike in the Monteverde reserve and while zip lining, it gets chilly so be sure to pack appropriately.
The property is within walking distance to the Monteverde reserve, cheese factory, bakery, small food market and a couple restsurants.
A bus schedule is posted on premises if needed.
