The house is a duplex. There is a shared eat-in kitchen on the ground floor as well as a shared bathtub/shower room and a separate toilet with sink. There are 2 bedrooms in the house. If you are a couple you can use the upstairs bedroom with a queen-size bed, walk-in closet and flatscreen TV that plays DVD's, otherwise you can use the downstairs bedroom which has also a bunk-bed, so that is a great room for 2 friends traveling together. Upstairs there is a shared large living room with a TV that plays DVDs and VHS (there are a bunch in the house) but there is no network TV or cable. There is wifi for that.
Since this is a house and not an apartment there is very little neighbor-noise (something that can be super annoying in NYC) and overall it is super quiet!
There is an internet connection through Time Warner Cable with an Apple Extreme Airport for wifi. This has changed from the previous DSL connection that some guests had a problem with. It works fine now for browsing, email, Netflix, etc!
The kitchen does not have a microwave, but it does have a toaster-oven that can handle baking and roasts, but not a turkey. There is a dishwasher, electric cook-plates, and all the basics for cooking are there.
There is no washer/dryer but there are racks to hang clothes and there is detergent etc, so you can do a little wash in the tub or sink if you need to. Plus there is a drycleaner/laundry a block away.
There is a deli/supermarket around the corner and there is also a 24hour deli/supermarket about 5 blocks away. Parks with great views of the bridges and Manhattan about 3 blocks away, a very photogenic neighborhood in general, many movies, tv-series and fashion shoots take place in Dumbo all the time. Also a lot of street art everywhere, we have a Revs sculpture in front of our house.
Several very nice restaurants, coffee shops etc in the neighborhood, and ofcourse many more just across the river.
The F train is 2 blocks away and brings you into Manhattan really quick (1 stop), you can also walk over the Brooklyn or Manhattan bridge . Taxis or carservice and even a water-taxi. Lower Manhattan is really close by, a taxi fare from Dumbo to Soho is faster/cheaper than from the Upper East side. There is also a bike shop 2 blocks away where you can rent bikes.
we just got back from the best time in NYC Dumbo ..the appt is like a little house tucked between two bigger buildings ..much bigger than i expected ..spacious and simple . one twin bed room down stairs ..bath and separate loo ..kitchen dining room and upstairs a big master bedroom ..its quiet and we all slept well ..the location could not be better and we highly recommend the east river ferry
good taxi service and supermarket round the corner
you have to have to try the pizza joint round the corner the queuing is worth it ..we will stay here again ..thank you
Our stay went smoothly, the only problem was the weather was really cold and the heating never kicked in, but the owner asked us to buy two heaters, which he immediately paid back for.
Wonderful quaint place. If you need to be in DUMBO, it is simply the best. Roomy, two bedrooms and a t.v. room. Really glad I found this place, hope it is available again in the future.
Perfect home base for a week in NYC. In 9 years of living all around NYC, I never had the pleasure of staying somewhere so incredibly convenient. Just returned from a week staying in Pieter's perfectly appointed (if modest) apartment with my husband and two small kids. The space is equipped with everything you might need, including clean bed linens, bath towels, dish rags, etc., and extras of all the above. New kitchen sponges and dish soap, nice hand soap in the bathroom, and a "starter kit" of provisions (mini-bagels, cream cheese, apples, and a six-pack of Stella) were all touches that make it easy and pleasant to stay here. Beds were comfortable, there is plenty of living space, and as a bonus there was a huge library of books, dvds, and vhs tapes which helped entertain the kids after we'd wiped them out with a day filled with multi-borough adventures. Brooklyn bridge park, just blocks from the apartment, has been totally expanded and revamped, and is beautiful -- lots of fun on any decent-weather day, and multiple good playgrounds for the kids. The convenience of being 2 blocks from the F train (and only one stop from Manhattan) cannot be overstated. I was concerned about cleanliness as I am an easily-skeeved-out type of person, and this apartment definitely met my standards for cleanliness. I absolutely hope to stay at Pieter's apartment the next time we have a chance to escape to NYC for a week. Thank you, Pieter!
We stayed 10 days at Pieter's appartment and it was very good time. The place is very good located, and quiet. It's simple, but very comfortable.
Pieter is very friendly, made us a very sympathical Welcome and gave us many good addresses in NY. It's a good place to stay!!
I booked this apartment for my sister and her husband who visited NY for a week. They were very positive about the location (smack in the middle of hip and happening DUMBO) and the size of the space. Despite the location (busy area around the corner, near the Manhattan Bridge) inside it was pleasantly quiet, no noise problems at all.
US trip for 2 weeks: 1 in NYC and 1 in Chicago with a friend.
The Appartement: as cool as on the pictures and ideally situated (1 minute walk from line F and 10 minutes A & C) from all the hot spots. And Dumdo is a really good district: artistic mood but quiet.
Pieter is a gentleman. Welcomed us to the house, had a mapprinted of the area and gave us a full run through of the house. Being greeted with a beer after 14 hours of travelling made his place our oasis in the desert. Great location, minutes from the subway and shops minutes away.
Great location! Great duplex, also for kids. Pieter is a great host and the apartment is very nice.
Great apartment and localization! One block from subway station, near the Brooklyn bridge, really nice walking around! The area it's really cool and Pieter was very kind and helpful. Highly recommended.
