Tim is often working on the farm and available for questions or ideas for local attractions. His family moved to Paonia in 1970 so he can generally help you find anything in the valley you are looking for. He can help you find the most popular spots or places nobody knows about. He loves interacting with and conversing with guests. He loves this valley, this state and this country and his enthusiasm and positive outlook are refreshing.

My work: Business Owner - Proprietor of Fort Austin
Lives in Paonia, Colorado
I’m happy to spend time with my guests or give them space
For 8 years I have been cleaning up this property, remodeling the main lodge, building the cabins, glamping tents and apartments on Fort Austin. Paonia is the perfect place to live a peaceful, simple, mountain town lifestyle. Good food, good drink, and good people are what make our valley so incredible. My passion is sharing my little slice of heaven with my guests. Over the past 4 years I have met some incredible people that I stay in touch with to this day. Come sit a spell, sip a cognac, smoke a cigar, and talk about what makes life worth living. You might find me to be the most grateful and most curious person you have ever met. Fort Austin is designed to help you slow down, reflect on life, converse with friends, and find yourself. Tim was born in Tennessee where his family farm has been owned by the Austin family since 1786. Tim moved to Paonia in 1970 with his family and started 3rd grade at Paonia Elementary School. He graduated Paonia High School in 1980 and went off to college in Oklahoma. He graduated college in 1983 and settled in Colorado Springs where he raised 3 kids, Taylor, William and Avery. He was a custom home builder, business owner, entrepreneur, coach and teacher. In 2010 he moved back to Paonia to set up a marketing system for his parent's organic fruit operation. In 2014 this property came available in a very raw, over-grown, run-down condition. After cleaning up the land his first major projects were building the huge log porch and the timber wall that are now the signature features of Fort Austin. Dozens of projects have followed, remodels, cabins, tents, barn and grain bin bath house to name a few. Tim's oldest son, Taylor, played football at Concordia University and lives in Omaha, NE with his wife, Katelin, and his two kids, Tucker and Oakley. Taylor is a manager with Enterprise Rent A Car. Tim's middle son is William, graduated from Colorado School of Mines and is a highway patrolman in Port Angeles, WA. He and his wife, Lindsay, have a son, Benaiah. Avery is Tim's daughter. She graduated from Dallas Baptist University in 2010 with a degree in Hospitality Management. She lives in Chicago and works as an event planner/guest services coordinator at Parkview Christian Church.
