About this listing
Location! Walk downtown to SXSW, stay in a quiet residential neighborhood. Just a short walk to the Convention Center and Sixth Street. Cab it to the Warehouse District, UT, the Long Center, South Congress if you're not into longer walks or the bus.
UPDATE: You'll actually have the place to yourself/selves in mid-June. Lucky you/y'all!
Guest room available in my 1-bath, 1-dog Central East Austin house. The room includes: full bed, desk and chair, ceiling fan, private entrance. There are also and iron and ironing board, plenty of towels, and extra pillows and linens if needed. The most recent copy of Austin Monthly and the Austin Chronicle are always on hand.
You will have access to high speed wifi, new kitchen appliances in a well-equipped kitchen, new HE washer/dryer, recently remodeled bathroom with tub and shower, HDTV with HD antenna, covered front porch, and deck in back. You are welcome to help yourself to anything consumable in the house, and I keep a generous stash of toiletries in the guest room. I like eating often, so there are usually abundant snack-type items, fruit, cereal, and always coffee, tea, and cream. I also have a flock of hens in the yard, so there are free range yard eggs for breakfast, and sometimes abundant veggies from the garden.
As it reads above, I have a friendly 12 year-old dog, lab mix, and judging by my reviews, he's more popular than me. We will be here during your stay. But hey, what a slice of Austin. He will not chew your belongings. You will also be sharing the one bathroom with me. There is also a tabby cat who lives outside the house but does not come inside. (If you have serious cat allergies, you probably want to consider that.) You can always spend your downtime on the front porch, visiting with the butterflies in my garden (a certified Monarch butterfly refuge), or on the back deck.
My house is close to everything. You can walk to more bars, clubs, and restaurants than you would ever need, or go down to the lake to run, bike, or walk on the hike-and-bike-trail. (Check out my guidebook on the MAPS tab above.) You do not not need a car to enjoy central Austin from my neighborhood. A cab to the airport from here is about $20, and cabs are generally dispatched here quickly from the Four Seasons hotel, which is down the street. Transportation options include Metro Bus and Metro Rail (Plaza Saltillo), Austin B Cycle (Plaza Saltillo), and renting a bike from East Side Pedal Pushers.
I am an avid cyclist. If you bring a bicycle with you, or rent one during your stay, it can stay in the house as long as it's housebroken.
You can't get much closer to downtown and East 6th, and still have a quiet place to rest your head.
Other Things to Note
The price shown includes all applicable hotel taxes (6% to the state of Texas, 9% to the city of Austin).
No guests other than your self/selves, please!
Quiet time after 11pm. This means keep your personal activities to your room, and please be respectful of my quiet if you're in the kitchen or bath. Generally, I never hear my guests coming and going late; I sleep through most anything. :) Coming in at 2am is NOT a problem at all, just don't start playing the drums.
Please clean up after yourself in kitchen and bath. Feel free to store your toiletries on the shelves and vanity in the bathroom. When using the kitchen or bath, you are welcome to use anything - milk, butter, tampons - just don't use it all. If you do, please replace it. If there's something special you need - like Advil, safety pins, or superglue - and you don't see it, please ask; I probably have it.
WASHER/DRYER: Read the washer instructions before using the washer, or ask for help. Again, feel free to use my detergent. MEASURE with the cap. One cap per wash, it's a thimble full.
INTERNET: No illegal downloads; they get traced back to my network and I get fined. If you visit BitTorrent, LimeWire, eDonkey, Gnutella, etc, I will be notified and you forfeit your security deposit.
CHECKOUT: you can leave everything as-is; I'll take care of laundry, etc. If I'm not here please leave the key in the room and lock the door behind you on the way out.
I stayed with Leslie and her husband Thomas for a week while in town for a conference. They are both SUCH great hosts - super friendly, accommodating, and even made yummy snacks. Friday, the dog, is a great cuddle buddy. This was my first visit to Austin, and when I return, I'll likely stay with Leslie and Thomas again!
I had a great stay in Austin! The room was just as described, and Leslie and Thomas were great hosts. They gave me lots of good advice about things to do in Austin, as well as suggestions concerning music venues. I'd stay again!
Leslie is a gracious host. She's very accommodating. Her dog is just lovely. The house neat and charming. It is also very conveniently located. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to others.
She was very welcoming. She gave me treats to get friendly with her dog and also offered me beers in her frig. I really like the fact that she embroidered her Wifi name and password ;-)
Great place, exactly as described! Leslie was very welcoming and our stay at her place was very relaxed! Thanks!
Leslie is a wonderful and provided great advice for good places to visit in Austin. The place is cozy and in great condition. The neighborhood is quiet, but close enough to downtown to be walkable. We would definitely come again.
This was my first airbnb experience and it was definitely a good one! The home was very welcoming and reminded me of the culture in the east bay with the organic products, food compost bin, and monarch garden sanctuary. The location was a decent walk from downtown but the weather was pleasant and there was a lot to see along the way. I loved Friday the dog and Leslie was very sweet and knowledgable about the area. Although I didn't do much at the home except sleep, I would have felt comfortable in any of the rooms.
About the Host, Leslie
A bilingual elementary school teacher, I live the killer lifestyle. I spend my days playing the drums, gardening, tending to a flock of chickens in my yard and an awesome dog, riding my bike or motorcycle around town, and working on programming projects. It seems like I've done nothing this past year but renovate my kitchen. Now I need to update these airbnb pics.
I don't watch TV. I do like to read and listen to music, and have a fair number of records, although mp3s might be my downfall. I also cook well and often.
I live with my husband, and we are looking forward to welcoming our first child into our home in early 2015. That said, my lifestyle is pretty unconventional compared to your average mom. Now if only motorcycle jackets came in maternity sizes...
