Get back to nature in our lovely, comfortable and private 2 bedroom villa, freshly renovated and decorated in an industrial wilderness decor and with all the comforts of home so you can make the most of your stay.
Perfectly located only 50m to the lake and playground and within easy walking distance to everything Waratah has to offer, including museum, pub, cafe and service station.
A scenic 40 minute drive to Cradle Mountain and 45 minutes to Burnie and the main shopping district.

The space
The Wombat Burrow is the grown up version of our neighbouring property The Burrow. With a more sophisticated design palate, The Wombat Burrow combines industrial with wilderness while providing a comfortable and cosy place to stay while you explore the Western Wilds and get back to nature.

The Wombat Burrow can accommodate up to 4 guests in 2 separate bedrooms each with a Queen sized bed. The Lounge room has a heat pump/air conditioner that warms the entire unit, a TV & DVD player with a selection of DVD's & views out to the lake. The Kitchen is complete with small appliances, full sized fridge & standard stove/oven. The original Bathroom has been given some updates and is tidy and serviceable providing all the essentials. Laundry facilities are also available.

Guests with small children and infants are welcome to stay, however you may also wish to consider the neighbouring property "The Burrow" which is equipped with portacot/high chair and more children's DVD's etc.

Where you’ll be

Waratah, Tasmania, Australia

Waratah is a picturesque town midway between Burnie and Cradle Mountain. The town features a number of historical buildings including Philospher Smith's Hut and The Bischoff Hotel and is well worth exploring. With the main street only 300m away it is an easy walk past the lake.
The Roadhouse is prominent on Smith Street as you drive in or out of town. It is open 7am - 5pm 7 days per week and can supply all your basic grocery needs, as well as take away food and petrol.
Further along this road you will find the Waratah Museum, The Athaneum, the Post Office, the Stamper Mill and also the top of the waterfall. If you continue along past the old post office you will find the perfect location to view the waterfall across from the Bischoff Hotel.
While you are there stop in at The Bischoff Hotel for a drink or stay for dinner - they do a Monster Chicken Schnitzel that my son LOVES!
Just up from the hotel is The Mushroom Cafe - a great place to grab lunch and a coffee (Wednesday - Sunday). Cobi is lovely and always willing to chat and is a wealth of local knowledge.
Wander around the lake - it's a nice easy stroll and keep an eye out for Platypus - they do exist and are best spotted at either Dusk or Dawn.

I live on the NSW central coast at beautiful Lake Macquarie with my little man Christopher and fur baby Luna the Bulldog. It was my love for photography and travel that first led to exploring Cradle Mountain and eventually resulted in searching for our own little holiday home nearby. That is how we first came across "The Burrow" at Waratah - It truly was a labour of love turning it into something we are proud to call our own and happy to share with others. So nice we did it twice...... When presented with the opportunity to buy the adjoining unit we couldn't resist. Again it was time to roll up the sleeves and do some work and so "The Wombat Burrow " was born. This was our chance to create a holiday home that offered us the flexibilty to do solo travels, family trips or share our adventures with our extended family and friends . We are pleased to be able to share this with you and we hope you enjoy your travels in wonderful Waratah as much as we do.

During your stay

We live at Lake Macquarie in NSW so unfortunately we aren't able to greet you in person. We do however have an amazing caretaker who looks after our property and ensures it is ready for your arrival.
