The Space

This newly renovated, furnished apartment in the historic Jabez Bacon House, is a 20th century addition with its own entrance and new bathroom and kitchen. It is bright and modern, with a queen-sized bed. It is a light-filled room, with views out onto the yard and gardens, and has a contemporary feeling. The apartment, with its own entrance and kitchen, is ideal for a longer stay.
The apartment is situated in the center of town, but has the feeling of privacy and rural beauty. Walking is easy, amenities are many, including many restaurants, and we are located at the gateway of the beautiful Litchfield Hills. We are minutes from Interstate Route 84, close to area schools, (Taft, Westover, Canterbury, the Gunnery, Rumsey Hall), 105 minutes from Waterbury, 45 minutes from New Haven, 50 minutes from Hartford, and about an hour from Bradley Airport. New York City and its airports are about an hour and a half from here.

  • Sarah was very communicative and accommodating as it pertained to our travel plans. The apartment was as advertised and as expected. Location was central to the general area. Apartment was very clean. We experienced no issues, and everything went smoothly. This was our first Air b&b experience, and based on it, we would use the service again.

  • We loved the historical charm of the shared living room and dining room. Sarah was very pleasant and friendly and full of great recommendations about the surrounding area. If we needed anything extra she immediately provided it. She made us a lovely breakfast and our daughter really enjoyed playing with her dogs. The private apartment was well equipped and cozy.

  • This is a big, wonderfully charming old historic house in a great part of Connecticut. We rented two separate rooms for extra family members (thus the two separate, nearly identical reviews). Sarah couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. The rooms are huge - surprising for such an old house - and Sarah went out of her way to make our time there special.

    We would definitely go back.

  • Sarah was kind and responsive. We asked for a clean set of sheets and towels and she responded without any issues. Sarah also makes breakfast as part the price. A nice room and host.

  • Sarah's house is beautiful and it was a privilege to stay in a home with so much history. Sarah was a very welcoming host and gave us some wonderful suggestions on restaurants and walks in the surrounding area. We hope to return soon!

  • Sarah was welcoming and helpful and made our stay hassle free and thoroughly enjoyable. The house is beautiful, and the the part you stay in is actually self-contained, with your own living room and kitchen. Thoughtful touches like fresh fruit in the bowl just add to the charm. Highly recommended

  • Sarah is very welcoming and her home is a real treat to stay in. This listing does not do the place justice. It sounds like a bedroom and a kitchen, but it also includes a very pleasant sitting room/dining room, as well as a sun room. The windows on all sides look out on trees and birds. You will be walking distance from a river in a park and an excellent grocery store. The town it's in is picturebook perfect. Stay here if you can.

About
I am a museum consultant and caretaker of my family's historic home. I have a deep and abiding interest in local history, historic preservation, art, gardens and the natural world. I am happiest when engaged in conversations with people who are curious about the world and open to experiences. I enjoy meeting Airbnb visitors, finding them generally interesting, friendly and open. I want you to feel welcome in my home and tend to be a relaxed hostess. I leave you to yourselves, unless you'd rather engage, in which case I'm happy to talk.
