Get away to ideal setting on the Maine coast. Cabin with high-ceiling living space and large deck, three bedrooms (one's a loft up the spiral staircase, perfect for kids) and extra fold-out couch. Rustic accommodations (COMPOSTING TOILET, WOOD-STOVE FOR HEAT, AND RAINWATER SYSTEM), but comfortable (electricity & wi-fi!) in an incredibly beautiful setting in the pines with views to rocky coastline. Quiet with dock and easy access to water for kayaking, sailing, swimming, and exploring plenty of nearby islands, beaches and quaint New England villages. We'll help you get settled and explain where to put in your boat and get lobster.
This is a rustic area on the ocean. Children must be supervised, as the ground is rough, and the shoreline rocky and slippery with seaweed. ABSOLUTELY NO swimming without an adult present.
Please be aware of the eco-system. There are small animals (everything from mice to porcupine), deer, birds and insects. We don't want to hurt the balance of critters and humans. Obviously, it's OK to kill mosquitoes! But please don't spread any chemicals. There are two cats living in the next cabin during the summer. If you bring a dog, please don't let them chase the cats or stray into neighbor's property.
Watch your water consumption. It's rainwater and depending on the weather forecast, you may be asked to be more or less conservative with consumption. (We'll provide you with some drinking water -- if you know you'll need a great deal of water, please bring some).
And...most importantly, please respect the fragility of keeping a composting toilet composting (we'll explain how, please follow the procedures we lay out).
The home was just how I hoped it would be! Basic, comfortable, with a great location. The house very comfortably sleeps 6. Kitchen-wise, we had everything we needed and the wood stove worked very well. The house is right by the water, which is just beautiful. If you are looking for a quiet, get-away weekend with no frills but definite coziness and comfort, this is a good spot for you. Anita is great to work with and was incredibly responsive to all our questions. She also stopped by, and it was great to meet her.
It was fine. We met Anita at Bath and she was so kind to drive ahead to the house. She explained well the house
We passed there some wonderful days . The area we liked and we enjoyed the solitude. :)
We had a wonderful time stay in Anita's Cabin. Anita is a amazing host! You will have all basic things you need, along with the house manual for extra advises. The peaceful cabin and dramatic rocky waterfront compromised the Composting toilet. Thank you Anita! We would like to come back again!
Anita has a welcoming, warm and inviting place to stay. She was a wonderful host and always available to answer any of my questions. Her home is very rustic but was comfortable for me, my pregnant wife and or 17-month old daughter. We especially enjoyed sitting on the large deck in the evening before sunset. We had a wonderful time and Anita's place was the perfect getaway for my family.
This is the third year we have stayed at Anita's great place, and every time has been a pleasure! Anita is very responsive and solved a problem with the water pump quickly. Some minor improvements were made since last year, including a fantastic new grill. The place is a great combination of modern (electricity, wifi, hot water, comfort) and rustic (composting toilet, rainwater plumbing system) for groups looking for a cozy step up from camping. The surroundings are gorgeous and day trips to breathtaking Popham Beach State Park have been the highlight of our stay every year!
Anita was wonderful, showed us around and then left us to enjoy the peaceful location. We had a wonderful time I this location. The water was so accessible and beautiful. The house was well stocked and some days we did not leave at all, exploring the natural area with the 7 year old with us, who certainly had the most fun of any of us. Other days we explored surrounding towns such as Bath, Brunswick, and Georgetown.
The place is gorgeous. A bit far from everything but as long as you have your groceries ready with you, you're set for a great escapade to nature in comfort. Anita is a gracious host. Before confirming the reservation Anita ensured that I knew of the compost toilet, and when we arrived she thoroughly explained how to use it. We didn't have face much problems staying here and enjoyed it very much.
