We are located a short 10 minutes drive from downtown Kona, the Kona pier (start and end point of the Ironman held in October each year) and the beaches along Alii Drive! The approximate 1000ft elevation offer a comfortable 5-10 deg cooler retreat after a day at the beach.
Kona is known for its year round sunny weather daily temperatures ranging from 81 to 86 degrees. World class beaches and dining. Attractions such as swimming with dolphins, body glove snorkel tours, volcano helicopter tours, submarine and glass bottom boat tours are only a few to mention. This is a marine preserve and you can swim with sea turtles, and all the other tropical fish found in Hawaii's waters. Ocean kayaking and snorkeling are favorite activities at this spot. Coffee farms offer tours and samples of famous Kona coffee throughout the rural areas.
Kaahaluu Beach Park 15 minutes away. This has got to be one of the best snorkeling places in the world. It is a pretty, but unpretentious setting. One of the things that makes it good, in addition to the variety of fish you will see, is the fact that it is a really safe place to snorkel. It is good for children, older people, or those who can't swim. traditional Hawaiian Luaus are offered at several locations, and well worth the cost. Everyone should visit the hilton waikoloa village for a full day trip. Free transport to galleries, dolphin quest, restaurants and shops. The Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii has a number of ongoing experiments and applications of ocean technology, all very interesting.
Puuhonau O Honaunau National Historic Park (30 minutes away), or the City of Refuge (highly recommended) gives you the feel for the former way of life in a partially restored 16th century village. You will see thatched huts, canoes, idols, and a temple that has the bones of several Hawaiian chiefs. Set on a peaceful white sand beach. Two Step, nicknamed such because of the land formation underwater, is right in this area, about a hundred yards north of the City of Refuge. It's another fantastic place for either snorkeling or diving.
Hapuna Beach is 30 minutes away but probably as close to a "perfect" beach as you'll find in the state with fine, golden white sand maybe half a mile long and a couple hundred feet wide. It's a fine place for building sand castles and boogie boarding. There's seldom much of an undertow. It has a small snack bar, and showers. Conde Nast Traveler magazine has declared this the best beach in the nation. The beach is about a half an hour's drive north of Kailua-Kona near the 69 mile marker off Highway 19.
With abundant marine and wildlife, Kona remains unspoiled and has much diversity to explore. Activities include Catamaran rides, golf, wildlife viewing, tennis, diving, snorkeling, surfing, parasailing, sport fishing, beaches, tropical garden tours, real submarine tours (highly recommended), hiking, biking, horseback riding, local outdoor markets, world class shopping, sunset dinner cruises, fabulous restaurants, cinemas, museums, boating, sailing, windsurfing, jet skiing, helicopter tours, volcanic exploration, dolphin shows, and finding sea turtles on Kealakekua Bay just 20 minutes away.

To help start your day a continental breakfast will be served between 7-9am on the lanai where you can enjoy the serenity and a cup of James Bean coffee.
James was a terrific and welcoming host!! The tree house is equipped
with lots of water fun gear and towels, the location is lovely and convenient. James knows all the beaches and is quite willing to "talk story" with you about local beaches and folks. He took time out of his own work on his organic coffee farm to really show us how he makes it work and we enjoyed picking too. The breakfasts were great. Would surely go back, if I get the chance.
This location is ideal for coming into the kona airport. Also ideal if you're looking for a place centrally location. We we're able to tackle beaches, volcanoes, and great eats all from this location. James is an awesome guy, he shared plenty of aloha with us and we enjoyed talking to him. The treehouse is comfy, has amenities, and is a down right great place to rest your head at night.
Breakfast was wonderful and also more entertainment with James. Great guy!
My accomplice wasn't all that thrilled with the outdoorsy aspect of a tree house, but we live and we learn.
I loved this place and would certainly recommend it for anyone who wants a great place in Kona and enjoys the outdoors!
Bugs are our friends and moths are our relatives revisiting us!
Thanks again James!
James and Flora are the perfect hosts! We felt extremely welcome, they gave a lot of good advise about the island and we had some great conversations.
Falling asleep with just the sounds of the tropical forest outside, and waking up with the view of an gigantic tree just outside the window is something we will remember for the longest time. The house is situated in a pristine rainforest, even if Kailua-Kona is just 10 minutes away.
James makes great breakfasts every day, our children especially enjoyed the pancakes. He serves great coffee, all produced on his very own coffee-farm. The last day he gave us a tour of the farm - it was exiting to understand all the steps involved in the process from berries on a coffee-bush to ready roasted coffe-beans.
We would love to come back one day!
My husband and I are more into cabanas, "glamping" and authentic retreat experiences than big resorts with no charm, so we had a really awesome experience. Jungle sounds, fresh & pure air, delicious breakfasts every morning from fresh mango/bananas smoothies to baked croissants and special pancakes. The hosts were giving us some advices on what to visit every day depending on our wishes. We visited James coffee farm and because we get married during our trip, James kindly offered us fresh coffee bags as a wedding present. Conclusion : Awesome people and awesome place, we would totally recommend it to friends!
We had the best time in James' and Flora's treehouse! It was all as described and better! The treehouse is beautiful and it is an amazing experience to stay this close in nature, especially when compared to the overcrowded hotels! Each day started with birds singing, James' own coffee and delicious breakfast. Through James we learnt about the best trips and adventures on Hawaii and we spent a great day at his own coffee farm where we could harvest and roast our own coffee!! We can only recommend this trip and the coffee is incredible, to me it tastes like chocolate..
We are extremely happy with the whole stay and airbnb is great to get to know the locals and best trips!
James was such a nice guy and gave us really clear directions on how to get to his awesome hideaway treehouse. We only had a couple days left in Hawaii and he gave us such great recommendations of places to go too.
This is a wonderful tree house, and it has everything you need, clean and nice. James is a very kind host, he prepared breakfast for u and very easy to communicate. I would highly recommend to stay here if you want a place that is not full of ppl and cars. The window view is also good.
