The Large Man made Tank, Parakrama Samudraya. Most time of the year you could take a bath in the tank and maybe take our canoe out for a paddle for a small fee, or take a fishing boat out from next door to see will elephants gathering on the other si
The second most ancient of Sri Lanka's kingdoms, Polonnaruwa was first declared the capital city by King Vijayabahu I, who defeated the Chola invaders in 1070 AD to reunite the country once more under a local leader.
Today the ancient city of Polonnaruwa remains one of the best planned archeological relic sites in the country, standing testimony to the discipline and greatness of the Kingdom's first rulers. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
Polonnaruwa is the 2nd largest city in north central province. But it is known as one of the cleaner and more beautiful cities in the country. The green environment, amazing ancient constructions, Parakrama Samudraya (a huge lake built in 1200) etc
Built right at the edge of the Great Tank Parakrama, this beautiful bungalow can room 3families comfortably. One room sleeps 2-3. You wake up to bird sounds and to macaque calls. Water birds would skim past you when you paddle the canoes in the water. It's fantastic holiday spot!!

Interaction with Guests
We are onsite most of the time. My husband travels back and forth to Polonnaruwa but I am stationary mostly in Colombo as my son is sitting for his IGCSE Edexcel Examinations in May 2015.
The forest canopy which offeres a cool sanctuary from anywhere else in the entire Polonnaruwa city.
There are many three wheelers around the area and we can call one for you for no cost. They would be able to take you to bus stop, Archaeological grounds or the big town called Kaduruwela
Other Things to Note
We rent out 10 separate rooms in four buildings. One is a large bungalow which houses 3 separate rooms, Room1: 1DB/2SB. Room2: 1DB/2SB. Room3: 3SB. (These are family rooms which can sleep two adults and two children and NOT four adults) Smaller cabin has two separate rooms sleeping 2 people per room. Each room in both houses has it's own bath and toilet. One tribe room next to our Lab and four rooms (2DB, 1TRPL,1SB) in the main Lodge
We do not allow smoking in the rooms as our property is in a small patch of forest.
We have had great times in the primate center. It is perfectly located to visit the ruins. We rented bikes directly at the center in order to go the archeological site, the way is really nice. The lake tour they propose is amazing and I would advice to take it to everyone! The staff is friendly and the dinner was good. It was interesting to share a meal with the doctor.
Thank you for these good moments!
Though Vatsala was away (she'd told us in advance that she wouldn't be there), Sunil was there to show us the ropes, and played for us an excellent bbc documentary about one of the monkey troops being studied by the Centre. The food was great, the accommodation was basic, but clean. Contrary, though, to our expectations, the room was one of three or four rooms in a dormitory-like building. This would have been fine, had the other guests not arrived in a very loud and jubilant mood long after we'd gone to bed - there is essentially no sound proofing.
We would definitely give it another try, if ever we were back. While it was different from our expectations, it was still a very clean, well located place with an interesting mandate.
We spent 7 nights in the Monkey Camp. We enjoyed the ruins, the monkey tour with Wolfgang .
The bungalow was comfortable , and the meals excellent. We liked the staff, with the old guy who did all the cooking was very special quiet man.
We biked the along the tank and fit in a swim with the locals . Swimming is quite nice along this area and the locals friendly. I swam in my clothes as not to offend the locals .
We enjoyed our stay at this friendly monkey camp. Vatsala was away in Colombo during our visit but her husband, Wolfgang, looked out for us. The facilities were clean with an especially cheery bathroom but it is the community that made our stay memorable.
During our time, we rubbed shoulders with an Oxford academic and a BBC film crew (fellow guests) and learned a lot about primates from the well versed Wolfgang. We went on a tour with him to the monkey troupe near the ruins and it was definitely a highlight.
The food is excellent and it was lovely coming home to an ice cold beer. The location has much to see from the tank on which its situated to the nearby ruins.
Our stay in the secluded bungalow - Pollonaruwa was fantastic! First of all the food was extraordinary... best food we had in Sri Lanka! Their team was very polite and helpful. The rooms are big with a nice bathroom. The guest house is very close to the lake and near the ruins... and if you want to have a real cheerful experience you should go walking to these ruins so you can have a nice chat with a lot of open hearted and happy local children and their families! One of the best places in Sri Lanka!!!!

I fell in love with Polonnaruwa and it's population of toque macaques and the other two langurs as soon as I'd finished the first session in the field one weekend 7years ago. It's been the jungles: monkeys, birds and other animals which took most of my interest.
We own a research site in Polonnaruwa which can host 24 people at one time for studies or just for staying over to take a boat tour or enjoy a weekend with a stroll in the lake-bed or the forest at any time of the year.
